TVS Apache RTR 180

  • today as i flicked the ignition switch on my bike the display didnt show any response just plain dead. no electric start no horns nothing but i put the ignition to on and kick started the bike. it started and the display also awakened with first doing its self check. what can be the reason...

    also my bike is washed everyday so is it problem of water ingress or maybe a fuse is blown

    guys plz advice

    • ^@rio.acharya:I experienced it twice while riding the Electricals,Engine switched off!While anew ,bike's display and engine does not respond many a times like what you said.TVS Service said lock system to be dismantled and cleaned.What I did is Approached a Local Mechanic.He Poured few drops of some Oil.after that I have no issue whatsoever with electricals not working when switched ON.

      My guess is rust in the lock may be due to like Water Servicing etc.

      What I do while giving for water service ,is put some clothes inside exhaust vent,asks to be careful with fuel cock as well as lock system.still ,it happened to Mine Bike.

      Bike's Knocking is not felt today and I filled petrol from another pump.Hopeful that the issue is resolved and I suspect adulterated petrol as reason.(Hopefully!)

        Xtra-premium petrol.

        SVC guy forced me to use only TRU4 as it mentioned in manual...

        • Please don't use Extra Premium or any other 91 octane petrol unless your engine has a Compression Ratio of higher than 10.0:1.
          Below that only normal fuel of 87 octane no.is recommended.
          Quench my thirst with gasoline!

                Will it be a problem if we use 91 Octane petrol...??
                because I used to always use...Xtra Premium or Shell super unleaded for my Pulsar and I felt the bike running better in that type of petrol and also i used to get a better mileage....
                Please let me know what will be the problem if we use 91 octane petrol...I am not much knowledgeable about that....I always thought it was the better petrol.....

                • ^Some claims these so called "premium" fuels affects Engine life;carbon deposits,Cylinder walls carrying black marks etc.These are all What I read Online from many sources.
                  One Thing is Sure - Every TVS Service ,Even the remotest One recommends not to use Premium fules.Use just unleaded fuel.
                  Bajaj Dealers Here used to keep Petrol Additives like Bardhal etc Which May have a positive effect(I guess it will act as a detergent as well).They too don't recommend Extra Premium/wtever.

                  PS:I read in other forum that Petrol from Shell Pumps are good.But they are not having nationwide network.

                  • ^^TVS used to recommend IFTEX additives.Dont know whether that holds at present.

                          • hey .........got my RTR 180 last evening...............the bike is awesome as we all know already!!!.....amazing to ride, great control.....havent still got the registration papers yet so will be using my Caliber for the day .... anyways.....

                            i got a few queries.......
                            1. ders some TUCK noise comming from d steering when hitting a bump....whst could it be??....steering is loose or cone-set???
                            2. once i heard a noise from rear suspension also .... aint sure if it was from the suspension or the tool-kit kept inside....
                            3. felt the engine heat on my legs (rode 20km from showroom till residence)....
                            4. also breaks are making a brushing sound when climbimng down a slope....

                            i know these are minor issues......but just mentioning them........

                            anyways enjoying the ride to the max. my bro was very impressed .... but lillte kiddo aint getting to ride it before the running in though....

                            ONE MORE MENACE JOINS THE PARTY.........

                                Congrats For your Purchase!.

                                1.It is a problem with Few RTR180s and needs either fork overhauling or fork replacement.don't hesitate and fall for their claim that it comes due to mudguard.Check My Post :

                                2)Tool Kit in New RTR180s When I bought on August 28th has no Rubber Band to Secure it.Check and Make sure your bike has it.Rear Suspension is comparatively having less chances of faults.
                                3)Yes.Engine is overheating and it is Normal due to tight tappets which has to get loose(Still it is much more high on temp compared to other bikes).Ride carefully for 1000kms under 50-55kmph with shortbursts to 60-70kmph(after first 200kms).Ride the first 100kms carefully and change the oil and Oil Filter(Paid).
                                4)Ask TVS Service to Check the clearances of Diskpads correctly.But In My Opinion ,Let the Front Fork Checked First.Later ask them to do this too.
                                Running-in For 1st 1000kms changing speeds and under 50-55kmph speed.
