  • Reached 130 km/hr

I got my RTR 180 recently tuned at the ASC on Friday. Post that i have done 130km on Saturday morning, however my RPM meter is gone bust and does not show a proper reading. SO dont know what was the RPM reading there???

I did report the RPM meter issue in the ASC and they rewound the meter to zero and tested it. It worked fine in testing, however once the other tune up were finished and the final trial was taken, the RPM meter again started move to the right of 0k as before and the issue started all over again. The ASC guy told that i would need to replace the entire console. It would cost me 3550 for replacing it. If i do this i would also loose all the kilometeres to digital meter or won't i? Is it advisable to change the console for the RPM meter only???

Previously i have touched 124 at 11K or close to 11.5 K RPM.

There is a chu-chu noise from the rear wheel whenever i move the bike backwards. Is the sound coming from the rear disc?

""Guys, a minor issue on my bike. Ive been using the Philips 55W bulb since a long time and ever since I bought it, it flickers (slightly) when i switch the indicators on while riding. I initially thought that the battery wouldn't support it and so did not bother much. But I noticed today that it doesnt flicker when on idle. My further t/s led to the conclusion that the headlight flickers (with the indicators ON) only when the engine revs to more than 4K RPM.
Any suggestions/pointers to get this fixed?
              ""

I know the stock is a 35Watt one. Notice the BOLD part? That's why i posted here! Hope you get it, if not dont bother to answer!

I've been one of the most happiest RTR owners and have impressed 5 of my friends to buy the same bike. I have no reason to crib!

moreover coil rewinding and running a higher watt bulb in ac mode like many do in pulsys will also not work as the rr will fail as of its uniqueness.

I guess you just swapped the stock 35w bulb with a 55w one without any coil rewinding or dc conversion, I guess you will need dc conversion before running anything over stock.
Thanks Harish. I confirmed the same from the SVC Engg. I'm wary of DC conversion. Let me see what's the stuff about Coil Rewinding.
              Thanks for the link

My bike is more than 24 months old, hence the warranty is no longer valid!!!

Does replacing my console reset the ODO to 0 or will i still be able to retain the kms done by my bike with the new console?

                • Update guy's (not a happy one though)

                  1. Choke cable has gone kaput.

                  2. Rear fender has become kind of loose. I guess something holding (from the bottom of the tail piece?) is broke. When going through uneven surfaces, getting a lot of rattling from the rear.

Bike has done 12500km and is now 20 months young

The rattling might be from the chain cover. It tends to get loose now and then in my bike.

My bike is 11month old and has 16300 on the odo. I was having issues with the top end speed. Took it to Svc and got it re-tuned. The Engg said he got the tappets adjusted among other stuff. He also said test it now and if it doesnt help, then clutch plates need to be changed. Is it so? Would that help?

hello bro, first of all less top end can be due to many things.it is very much possible that u get higher speed at one time and lower speed the other time. This maybe due to wind resistance and road elevation.. The other factors that result in to a low top speed may be

                        1.lower pressure in tyres
                        2. Carb tuning
                        3.faulty spark plug
                        4.valve clearence
                        5.brakes
                        6. Clutch plates
                        7. Engine oil

first of all, ur ride has done 16.3k have u ever replaced the spark plug, if not then its time to change it . I change a spark plug every 5k kms as it is not very costly . Just 125 bucks.

                        The valve clearence should be
                        inlet-0:06
                        exhaust- 0.08
the svc's generally set the thing with hands and not with the feeler gauge, get it adjusted with a feeler gauge by a good mech,, if not then check drifty's D.I.Y on valve clearance setting.

Check the brakes and make sure they are not touching the pads tightly when the wheel is moved .

I had changed the clutch plates at around 6k due to stunting on my bike, but i have read somewhere on xbhp that rtr's clutch plates can take a lot of abuse. Still get them opened aand check whether thay are burnt or not. Let not the mech fool u, check it on ur own if the squares on then have turned plain they they are burnt . Better post a pic here. Clutch plates cost 650 from the svc. Make sure they use original ones as i once got fooled by leaving my bike at the svc.

Use a good engine oil, if mineral go for yamahalube 20w40, fully synth, motul and shell are really good, currently have motul 300v on my 9k old menace.

Lastly use a full croutch on a empty highway or good road, where cows dont come in the way and check the top end.

Any update on this plzz do post as low top end has become a very common prob nowadays.

                          .
Thanks for the reply Utkarsh. Engine Oil(Motul 7100 FS), tyre pressure, brakes and pads, tuning and spark plugs are all fine fine. I know atleast these stuff and regularly check! Yeah i will be getting the Iridium spark plugs soon.

Yes, I have checked and rechecked the top speed in various different roads. I've tried the full crouch too and nothing changed!

The Svc Engg that I deal with is very keen on resolving my issues and he doesnt even charge me for the regular visits I pay to the Svc center! Yeah I do have Drifty's DIY saved but scared to try it on my own I now need to find a good mech near my place. If the valve clearance is fine, i guess the only part at fault will be the plates!
It's always better to lose a second in life than to lose life in a second!

The rear fender bolt at the centre might be loose.

Have you adjusted the tappets before this?If the tappets are tight, the top end reduces.Check out the top end now and revert back.
