A few pics of the TVS stall in the AutoExpo. Nothing new and the main attraction was the 250cc offroader.

    • hey guys..i got my 180 yesterday...the bike is running fantastic..n i'm taking care to have proper running in of engine..

but I have spotted a sound at cylinder head, suppose dat a wooden piece is stuck in brake drum and the periodic noise it will make when wheel starts rotating, exactly this kind of noise I have spotted at cylinder head.
when i asked tvs people abt this, they said this bike has roller bearings at tappets which make noise and gradually it will decrease. but I don't agree with this point..a bearing is meant to reduce friction n noise..

n secondly the tachometer pointer starts fluctuating when it reaches 3000rpm mark..can't figure out why these problems are there...

Please help me to sort out this..

N i saw many discussions in this thread that some bikes couldn't cross 8.5k rpm in 5th gear....how should i check this...is it ok if i raise the accelerator to full in such new condition?

          Happy for that
The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

            Congrats Buddy

If it's a slight vibe with the tacho needle, then it's ok.

As you are in the run-in phase, don't think about such high rpm. Shift gears at 3000-3500 rpm. Keep the top speed at 50km/hr (don't look at the speedo all the time, concentrate on the road). Vary the engine speed often. Avoid up hill rides and pillion (just try) during the run-in period of 1000km. Check tyre pressure (25psi front, 28 or 30 rear) every week. Try to replace engine oil and filter after 250km. Yes, before your first service.

            Keep us updated. Happy biking.

            • thanks a lot man for these useful tips...
the tacho needle fluctuation @ 3k rpm is noticeably big...let say if needle is at 3k and fluctuation range is 2.8k-3.2k! I'm going to service center to ask about this...

and did u have any idea about the noise at tappets? did u spot dem in ur bike too?? that "roller bearing explanation" is unbelievable...

engine oil and filter after 250km
...can u please suggest me a good engine oil...I'm thinking to use shell advance AX5..but please give suggestion if there is any other better oil..

Keep the top speed at 50km/hr (don't look at the speedo all the time, concentrate on the road).
...that was really true n funny thing u figured out buddy..hehehehe...

Shell Advance AX-5 10w40 is a premium mineral oil. It should be very good. Matches well with the run-in phase as well. I guess the SVC guy's would replace it along with filter for you. Just ask them politely

                • @Social: Those 250fx and 400fx have been there since ages, man! That '69' 250fx is being ridden by my friend, KP (Aravind KP) for National Supercross Championship. Well, they are not carbbed and compete in the 'Foreign class' against the Hondas and the Yamahas. The Japs 've a little edge over the desis. Nevertheless, TVS MX bikes 're brilliant and above what rest of the jokers from Indian auto families can conceive. The 160fx (Indian class) has the block from 160. And it can eat Impulse for breakfast, I reckon!

                          • @lijok: I just tried tuning my carb today..What will be the number of turns required .. I read some posts behind that 3.5 turns will give a perfect mixture..
Is it for the stock air filter ?I have a cosworth filter fitted and what will be the number of turns required..Lesser number of turns takes in more air right?
Or should the mixture be more rich...To get the best performance out of cosworth..Please suggest.
