  • Guys this is a very strange thing happening with my friends RTR180 from few days. Last week his brother took his bike for regular service at TVS SVC. He left the bike there and took it later in the evening. After 2-3 days of the service his gears have become rock hard.

I took his bike to my regular mechanic. He changed the oil and told us that it will be smooth after few days and asked him not to worry. Till this time I was didn't ride his bike. But after sometime I just took his bike for a ride and found the gears unbearable.

I wasn't able to upshift or downshift without a bang. I asked him to take the bike back to the SVC and show them.

Any idea what might be wrong with his bike. Before the regular service at TVS SVC his gears were butter smooth. Dont understand what might lead to this condition of his bike. Need your advice on it.

    • Hey Guys Now Days if you leave the bike in the hands of SC guy than he'll put this TVS Tru4 oil 10w30 (which is not recommended for RTR 180 or RTR160 or Fi) they will try to convince you for the oil it's smooth & mileage but do care to put right grade oil or you know what will happen to your engine when your are enjoying the speed

          3. my engine heats up after 15-20 kms...and the engine becomes noise...and there is slight tik tik sound from the engine!

dont use tvs oils., they suck and are very bad for heat issues. i have been using castrol from 2nd service. power1 and not the full synthetic one since i change it every 400-500kms. i dont like having the idea of putting fully synthetic and riding for many kms with all the dirt in the engine just collecting up overtime (thats jus me).
ps also do change oil filter at oil change

Are you sure about the quality of the petrol u fill ? Try switching the Filling station and see if there's any difference !

Buddy, I seriously need to show the service center people that 10w30 oil is not recommended for RTR. They just believe that as TVS provides 10w30 engine oil, that means it is the recommended grade for the bike. As much as I can understand from their behaviour, the head uncle (the workshop head) ain't bad in nature but he doesn't know about stuffs and thats why he refuses to put the oil taken to them by me (it was Shell Advanced 20w40 mineral) as he said that it doesn't matches to the "recommended grade"

Can you tell me where did you get to see/read/listen that recommended oil grade for RTRs is Xw40?

Well, if it is not the bad tuning problem as described by you, then I doubt your piston rings might be leaking the engine oil and the oil is getting burnt along with the fuel which is a real serious problem and should be rectified ASAP (if it is there).

Do one thing, put your hand close to the exhaust while the bike is idling and feel if the smoke has some amount of oil vapours in that. You can also check the exhaust mouth. If the mouth is oily/sticky, then you surely are the victim of this problem.

                    • Black smoke is generally due to improper burning of fuel. If engine oil is getting into combustion chamber and burning, the smoke will be white, and there will be this peculiar smell of burning oil...

I believe that you 're new to the forum. Well, this thread is meant for 'TVS Apache RTR 180 ownership experiences'. And we, Apache owners don't like when someone compares RTR with other bikes, especially it's competitors. And moreover, this place(read-thread) isn't for brand wars. |PEACE|

PS: Don't use too many smileys in your posts for it will attract the mods who in turn are going to warn you.

Dude, I asked you to show me the proof where one can see/read/listen that Xw40 is the recommended grade for RTR. Not for myself, but I want it to show it to the SVC guys who aren't ready to accept it. They said. if you can get the permission of TVS to use that grade of oil then we will happily let you put that oil in your bike.
