Filter material disintegrates if it is quite old...
In my bikes that use a foam filter I simply do not let mechanics/service-center open the air-filter box , learnt the lesson hard way with my RX135 . They'll inevitably do all the things that will quickly destroy a foam filter . Soak it in petrol off the fuel tank and twist it like their mums hankie , then drop it to the dirty garage floor to let dry .

So you guys concur on ANL make shoes ? Gotta hunt for it now .. OEM shoes almost gone . They are the new non asbestos type , was useless from the begining only

Another thing I noticed is that splendor has 130mm brake drum in front but 110mm at rear . Herohonda says 130mm on both wheels in their website . They have been publishing this lie in their website for a long time . Quite misleading to new buyers . I have written to them about it long time ago , no replies or corrections done . 130mm rear brakes really way more effective bite than 110mm . All yamaha bikes of this capacity have 130mm on both wheels , including the crux I have .
Don't believe me ? Open this link and click on "technical specifications"... http://heromotocorp.com/splendorplus
Someday I want to buy a 130mm rear Brake drum assembly, Hub , spoke set etc and upgrade mine to 130mm . Possible ?

    • I have knowledge in almost every Indian bike and have opened almost every bike except enfield with the help of my mechanic.
And please stop calling me sir as i am only 23 years old.
The non asbestos type brake shoe are useless. Instead use asbestos type brake which are cheaper and more better.
If anl is not available then use "ASK" brand which are OE supplier to hero moto corp. google ASK brakes and see.
The new bore kits are coming with usha piston and rings because of complaint.
The bore kit used to cost 1300 rupees but recently was revised to 1500 rupees.
And super splendor bore is always usha make.
Yes you can go for super splendor ream drum, brake panel, shoe, sprocket hub and coupling rubber and u can change it to 130mm drum.
but it is quite an expensive affair instead change the shoe to ASK brand and clean the drum and see the change in braking. My joy rear drum is 110 mm but still it brakes far better than my cbz extreme rear drum. I am planning to change the rear brake shoe of my extreme to splendor front shoe of ask make(130mm).
@shoeb- regarding key not coming out use some thin oil like sewing machine oil on the lock by opening the key cover and putting few drops and rest assured they are of best quality.
brake shoe as i have posted above use "ASK" brand.
Timing chain making sound- please change the push rod rubber and spring and see if it is making noise. cost you some 20 rupees and is easily doable at home.
Some months before they had manufacturing defect due to vendor mismanagement but now it is sorted but most problem are caused by improper handling by transporters.
Cost decrease was not because of hero decision but because people didn't buy original spares due to high cost hero was forced to decrease price and quality.
Even timing chain are coming in rolon and diamond brands and u can use them instead of original chain .

In my next post i will post some maintenance tips and how you can do it on your own.

Thanks for all this info,do post some maintenance tips.

Regarding the cam chain noise issue, I have replaced all the rubber guides, push rod(chain tensioner) guide was also replaced and it costs 46 or 48rs and not Rs.20/-.

Off topic question for Sibun jee.

        Pls don't take it seriously,
I call sir to everyone due to the fact that I am very young, younger than you too.
One more question do you own that joy or you dad ? Because i see that you are 23 now and you have HH joy since last 11 years

Again, pls don't take it seriously, no offence meant, just curiosity.
Answer it if you are willing.

Already tried that, cleaning and rubbing off shoes and drums with emery a few times, lightly greased the pivots , tried brake cleaner.... but bite is lost in a few days again particularly in rear brakes . I am habituated to strong rear brakes from my yamaha rx & crux and too many mobile chatting aunties roaming the streets in kolkata these days and had quite a few scary events . So for their sake I'm disregarding the costs . Is it possible to swap rear brake assembly with Yamaha rx or crux ? Then the cost would be lower and quality higher IMO ?

          • @pinaki- First use "ask" brand brake shoe then see if it solves the problem. Usually the OE non asbestos brake shoes are useless. The "ASK" brake shoes are 95 rupees and they improve bite much. My rear brake(110 mm) is so sharp that except me any one who rides it locks the rear break. Although my joy has much better brakes than any other Hero HONDA bikes in 100 cc. Use only asbestos brake shoe and not the non asbestos one.you cannot use other brand as it will not give satisfactory performance. use only super splendor or passion bigger rear brake. but first use asbestos brake shoe then post the result.
@No offense taken. Yes you are right, its my father but after 4 years he got transferred and decided to sell it but i was quite attached with the bike and so i kept it. it had run 50k km and was completely ruined in performance as it was ridden by my cousin brothers and was ridden for many km without changing oil also. Then i took it to my mechanic and did a complete servicing with my pocket money and it returned back to its performance and from then mechanic became my best friend.
I have recently bought a cbz extreme but still also i cannot love it as my joy and instead i ride it more than my extreme.
you won't believe it but i was trying to buy a extreme for 5 years ever since its launch but i couldn't buy it as my father was telling me to sell the joy which i didn't agreed as my pocket money that i get will be saved to maintain it like showroom condition and even after 3 lacs km it runs like new.
After i got a job i bought a extreme in September 2011 while keeping the joy. in four months i have ridden the extreme for only 2000km but joy i have ridden for 8000 km. i will post the detail in my ownership review which i am writing in notepad whenever i am getting time. Can i copy paste from note pad as it is not possible from MS WORD.

            • Splendor+ got G-Power plug .

Got this today from a small parts shop in Kolkata , was terribly difficult to find this G-Power CR7H-GP model which fits the Splendor , none had in Wellington area atleast .. wasted a whole half day there looking . They also had the equivalent standard(OEM) NGK model CR7H-SA and NGK Iridium model - CR7H-IX . Been using these NGK G-Powers on some of my other bikes with excellent results , So I jus had to get one for the new splendor+ too . Cost was Rs 120.00 (old 2008 stock, current is 140.00 I think) .

              For the benefit of Calcutta riders ,the shop is Oriental Auto Spares - 255, N S C Bose Road , Kolkata 700047 (Phone Guddu'Jee - 9836530716) .

Pinaki, did you notice any difference with this G-power plugs in terms of smoother idling & mileage compared to normal plugs?

                • Yes, a bit of both . Plus their business end (the fine firing tip) stays clean , hasn't required any cleaning yet on the ones I hav . The last bit is more important to me as I don't have to attend to it ever .This can't just be written off to "changing to new plugs from old ones" . I have used regular and g-power's , both new and tested them one by one (plus one new champion brand plug) . Have not tried iridiums yet though simply because I can get about 4 g-powers or 8 regular ngk's for that kinda money .

                  • While buying NGK be careful as new ngk plugs are coming with defect from factory. Even mico are coming with defect from factory. Only champion are having no defect and this i can say from my 11 years experience with my bike.

                      • Two days ago I bought a original sealed speedo cable and while replacing I found that new speedo cable had a manufacturing defect .
The inner wire was smaller than the outer cover(black).
I wasted so much time figuring it out ,exchanged it and got another piece and it was fitted without much effort.

                        • Clear Lens SWISS made, costs 26per pc including screws.

Swiss amber color bulbs costs 17 per pc,local made bulbs cost just 6 rs

Here is a picture of my led array which was taken in its initial stages .
It has been improved a lot since then,
                          Note-some resistors are extra/unused/damaged.

                          • Very nice find !
These swiss lenses look very nice , fully clear(I prefer this design) ... the Splendor-Pro blinker lenses I got have horizontal serrations/lines . But these lenses too lack the thin rubber gasket on the edge , don't forget to transfer those in from your old lenses while fitting ... else it might leak in rain-water . Bulb quality is very good compared to the Lumax made ones I got for 8Rs each ... no wonder it's pricey .

Recently I bought a new NGK plug with same model as my stock NGK. and i felt my stock NGK plug which is 6k old still performs better then the new NGK plug. I can sense smoother idling & more importantly it gives around 2-3 kmpl more mileage than my brand new plug. does this mean new one has some defects?

                              • My horn is gone weak and flat . Checked battery , it's in very good condition , OE exide 2.5ah wet cell , fluid levels ok and 12.3v after several days of non-use . Recharged it to 13.3v levels and horn became louder .. still sounds croaky . I have to ride crowded streets and by-lanes all the time .
ANy suggestions for a better horn or servicing & adjusting the OE one ?
