Hello friends, after a waiting period of 2 and a half months, finally got my bike delivered this week. I wanted either Flicker or Twilight as I really wasn't impressed with the new colors. While booking in July, the showroom guy (Shri Krishna Automobiles, Nagpur) had said he'll try for these colors and gave me a 80 % chance, as some pieces were still being manufactured to complete pending orders.. However, after about 45 days, he called up and said Flicker is no longer available with RE as the last 'piece' of Flicker was sold last week and the color has been now permanently discontinued. I was aghast and after lots of pondering, decided halfheartedly to go for Lightning. He said he'll need another 10 days to get it delivered and that I could have already got the bike by then if I'd booked Lightning right at the start.

I was very dissapointed and really not convinced and next day, decided to speak to the higher authorities and called up their factory customer care, and also sent a couple of mails explaining the situation. They gave me the number of the Area Sales Manager/ASM (Aurangabad). Called him up that day. Very surprisingly and unexpectedly, he turned out to be a very good guy. He was very helpful, listened to my problem patiently and broke this great news to me: That RE are relaunching Flicker and deliveries will start from Oct. I requested him to make sure that I be given my bike among the first lot.

I called up the showroom guy and he had no idea that the color was being relaunched (ASM had told me that he'll be sending mails to the showrooms in the next 2 days). I requested the showroom guy to follow the developments and keep me informed.

7 days later, on 23rd Sept, I got 'THE' call. I was told a Flicker black has been allotted to me and will be arriving in 3-4 days. I was called and asked to complete payment and other formalities. On repeated pestering, the showroom manager said that the ASM had called them and he was instrumental in the bike being allotted to me this early. I felt really good about my decision back then to speak to ASM.

Finally, on 30th, my bull was handed over to me. That feeling cannot be explained in words. Completed 100 kms on the Day 1 itself. Completely within the speed limit of 40-50 kms and with a good 10-15 mins break after every 30-45 mins so that the engine doesn't get overheated.
It's been 13 days now and I am totally loving the bike. Just can't get enough of it.

    Attaching some pics.

From my 13 days of riding, I can say that the bike is really sturdy. It is very comfortable (regardless of what your height and weight is! The turning radius is unexpectedly very less and benefits a lot when taking U-turns in traffic. No problems faced as of now.

Right from the day I booked the bike, xBHP has been like a boon to me. Have read almost every single post on this page regarding Thunderbird and other Enfield bikes and the information has been of immense help to me. I'll be happy to help if anyone needs any.

Thanks a lot! I had to wait for nearly 3 months but yeah, finally got the desired color. As for your post, yes, RE are relaunching Flicker in TB and Maroon in Classic. This is confirmed news as I got to know from the ASM himself. He had said the deliveries for the new colour will start officially in Oct itself.

Hello everyone, any one here using RE riding boots? Its 100% leather, not ventilated. If yes please share your riding experience in terms of comfort and during normal walking. Suggestions please..

Dear riders, please check your rear disc if you have done 5000 kms. There is a possibility of the nuts going loose just like mine. Please oil your accelerator cable and clutch cable. There is 100% proof of both cables to dried up inside especially during rainy season. By the way I just changed my silencer with the new RE modified one. Yesterday my clutch cable broke due to rust. Today while I park my bike in the side stand some person with no sense of driving, while reversing his Gypsy hit the bike from the rear mudguard. The bike fell down and the rear mudguard is bent out of shape now. Feel very very sad....

Things I'd love to look out for :-
                - Carrying capacity (as large a set of cases as possible)
                - Locking ability? (maybe I can use a set of cheap normal locks, but integrated lockable bags if available, would be relaly interesting)
                - Rear crash guards for the RE TB? I have the front guards installed, but are there rear guards also available?

Thank you in advance for your tips & inputs. Looking forward to riding the bull again, this December!! !!

                Regards,

Here is my suggestion. Don't go for a metal case. It just adds weight to your bull. To me that's useless weight. Just buy a saddle bag and tank bag for touring purpose.

But to answer your question you need to get the metal casting custom build. Its street name is ladakh carrier. Fits your luggage and 2 fuel cans. Weld in the lock portion. Would cost you between 3 and 7 k depending on the material of the metal; features and area.

Rear crash guards are available in the market.

Mate, that's great advice. Thanks a ton! I'll have to save this post for reference.

I needed the metal casing mainly for its touring/load carrying ability. I'd love to spend a week on the road, and I've done a few multi-day trips here stateside (my ST1100 has factory keyed saddlebags! Such joy!!) but I'd be crippled by lack of cargo carrying capacity on the Thunderbird

I agree with your tip about tank bags - I've a Neilson 22L tank bag currently, I should probably get it with me when I get on the TBird.

I'll start the search for "Ladakh Carrier" !! Thank you again good, sir, Ride safe Ride on.

                      Regards,

Its disgusting how some people have no respect for other people's hard earned property. They think we get our bikes as dowry or something.

                          I have a confusion.
My TBird has completed 490+kms. I have already booked an appointment for first service. But, I could get appointment only for 1st Nov. I will be using my bike for a week more before service.
So, as per running in period, can I start riding bike at 80kmph now? Or should I stick to 60kmph till first servicing?

Stick to 60kmph till first service because that is when the oil change happens. After the oil change you can go for higher speeds.
Also vary your speeds/rpm as much as possible within the run-in limit. Do not ride in the same gear at constant speed all the time, it is not good for the engine.

Yes only after oil change. N remember take time to reach that speed ok no quick accelerations. Enjoy! Go for a long ride say 100 km on good road for a check after service.

I have a doubt. Is heating of front and rare discs a normal scene. I am worried this would amplify with longer distance. What is the acceptable heating temperature for brake discs?

                                Thank you, Sharad.
