• Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences

Been gathering information on Thunderbird for past few months.

I have read through all the replies on this thread. I have to admit most of you surely are in love with Thunderbird 350.

I'm about to place my order in about 12 hours and the dealer said I'll get it after 24 days, which I really doubt. I'm afraid it might extend to 2-4 months. But it is worth the wait!

Few things I wanna ask;
1) I'm from Meghalaya (Home of clouds). Are there any tyre sets that I can change to for better traction even after tyres getting wet? If yes then can I change to a wider back tyre with better traction? What would be the cost approximately?

2)Does NEW Bajaj Avenger's Rear View Mirror(RVM) fit upon New Thunderbird 350? If yes then what's the cost and if no then can anyone suggest a better RVM for Thunderbird 350?

3) What's the approx cost of changing to tubeless tyres with alloy instead of traditional spoke style? What are the disadvantages of changing?

4) Any pointers for properly maintaining Thunderbird 350?

5) Any suggestion for front leg guard and how to fit them so they don't push on front mud guard to hit tyre?

6) Can it be turned into a single seater? If anyone has seen it, kindly share the image of same.

Looking forward to be enlightened

kush bro m answering as per my knowledge
1.ceat tyres seem to have a better traction.there is a post in this thread on it.

2.yes the avengers rvm fit perfectly on the tb.

3. Depends on make the parado cost approx 7500 or 8000 plus the tubeless tyres go up to 12-13k.the alloy wheels often have a wheel out issue.

4. Following the manual.overspeeding in service runnings to be avoided.kick start the bike for the first time of the day.spend atleast 5 min cleaning the bike which keeps you in check.and always warm up the bike for 3 minutes while kick starting.

5.not sure about which leg guard u like.I have the butterfly one.just take care that the wheel isnt too close near the guard as it may get stuck on speedbreakers

6.sorry man dont know about single seat conversion you can remove the pillion seat though.

Note: the stock bike is the best.dont prefer modifying a new bike.

Guys please correct me if I am wrong.

Also use a chain lube every 500 km as the chain turns extremely dry.

And hey I also want to ask if one can fix RVM below handle bars, like in few Harley Davidson models.

If yes then what are the ups and downs for same?

Guys done with my second service 2 days back.noticed an issue.there is a sound which comes when I go through speed breakers.it comes like the sound which comes when we apply brakes on a cycle.dont know where its comes from.but it only happens when I make the initial start of the day.the sound is a screeching one.checked both breaks they are free.confused about it.

The screeching sound on first few brake applications is normal. I had the same earlier. Dont know the exact cause of it, but I reckon its because of the cleaning of brake pads, and the sound of metal on metal. I my be wrong, but this is what my experience is.

Cheers!

Is that so? I always thought alloy wheels never go out. Do you mean that alloy wheels sometimes are out while making itself?

Please let me know how to avoid getting yourself an out alloy wheel? This is freaking scary. I was contemplating changing to alloy wheels myself.

Cheers!

Bro.lot of my friends had this issue.it can be rectified.m in pune there is a mechanic in pune mg road area who rectifies it.the spokes sound reliable in case of wheel out.they stand a better chance while off roading

Agreed, spokes always a better option while offroading. But I Dont plan to go offroading a lot. So you ARE saying that a good alloy wheel can go out as well... Geez! This is crazy.

Thanks anyway. I will think over the decision again.

Cheers!

Yes we can do it, there is a post in this thread about how tubeless tyres don't go together with spokes, usually tubeless tyre needs air to stay compressed inside it, but spokes release the air as spokes have holes, so one guy asked his mechanic to close those holes and he was able to fit spoke + tubeless tyre and went on a long ride to Jammu without facing any problem.
