Hey guys I had a query...yesterday I got my bike serviced at pr enterprises Mumbai..post the service while returning back home the bike begun to stall..the svc had shut down but one of the employees who was on his way back home saw my bike and fiddled around with the idle screw post which the stalling stopped...but he has increased the idle to 2k rpm and that is making the riding experience pretty bad...should I fiddle around with the screw myself and get the idle to around 1100 rpm or should I take it back to the svc and get the carb sorted..my bike has barely clocked 1700 kms...plz advice!!!

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 - Ownership Experience after completing 10,070 KMS
First of all this is mine short review on my motorcycle with only words and no pictures - If you wanna see pics wait for few days !
Completing 1 year on a motorcycle with good and bad reputation is a done thing . I bought Royal Enfield on 2nd April 2016 and completed a year round ride - tours and commuter . I must say that this the best Classic Cruiser motorcycle around in India . By the terms Classic Cruiser I mean those speed hovering around 50 to 60 mph . I generally don't ride over 100 kmph but occasional burst of 120 kmph gets done .
Things at first I notice when I bought this motorcycle were :-
1. The poor wire insulation and the vibration.
2. Gears too hard to shift.
3. Magical Left hand side mirrors of it's own mind .
4. 800 - 900 rpm fluctuation.
5. Over-tight spark plugs - I mean really over tight !.
6. Liquid Gun Engine Oil - the company does not uses Motul as it previously did.
7. Fuel Tank Drainage pipes blocked .
Things above getting fixed by own :-
1. Have to properly insulate all the wires specially the rear brake sensor wire dangling loose at the bottom / battery side red and white wire hub / Front brake sensor wire / Clutch sensor wire - all this have to tapped with black insulation tape so that during the rainy season no water droplets get in - and it did saved me as I seen at the SVC many were complaining of improper shutdown of the motorcycle during rain . Mine did not - so Yahoo .
2. Gear too hard to shift - Problem solved - after completing my 2000 KM running in period of my own formula - I changed my oil to Motul 15w50 3000 2.5 ltr Mineral , and my problem got solved . I use the following technique - At every 3000 km or the service due indicator I change my oil + oil filter + air filter and my spark plugs - total costs around 2000 rupees but I am willing to pay for all this . Note here this are done by me and not by the SVC - I don't trust them . And till now I am getting 36 kmpl on city riding and 39-42 km/l on highway . In kms by motorcycle has a fuel range of 700 to 720 kms - I use all my petrol and don't even leave out my reserve too so getting a 700 km range from a 350 cc motorcylce of having a power of 200 cc is a great thing .
3. Mirrors problem - I simply used my Bajaj Discover 125 M mirrors - and till now no vibration / clear wide view / and no auto turning of the mirror by itself.
4. RPM Fluctuation and auto shut off - Simple method I did after completing my running in period - I rode my bike for 40 kms and when I kept it idle it was showing 800 rpm - and had the effect of shutting down - I simply turned the RPM screw to anti-clockwise side slowly and set at 1200 rpm - Till now no problem.
5. Spark plug problem - Simply loosed it .
6. Liquid Gun Engine Oil - This oil is sold by HP so cant trust them and went straight away to Motul 15w50 3000 - and am happy . Can't comment on SS or FS oil - Clearly this is a old technology engine and I love to prefer mineral oil rather using SS or FS . If people are having benefit good for them .
7. Fuel Drainage Pipe - Simple ! just made adjustment to the pipes by making it passing through the carburetor and problem solved - till now even in rain no problem of water getting in my tank or even improper air blockage of my bike .
So , now I am coming to the hand on experience while riding this motorcycle :-
1. Vibration - Till now I did not felt it maybe of my proper using of oil or properly gear shifting at 3.5 k RPM .
2. Wind blast - I have used my full face LS2 helmet and proper RG so maybe I did not faced any wind blast . Riding this motorcycle in cross wind will sometime wobble depending upon the wind speed .
3. Engine Heat - I have removed the engine fin rubbers - effects - less engine heat + faster heat shedding of the fins + no fin vibration + no extra noise + no cracks . I was previously fed up with the heat it was emitting , but after removing the fin rubber till now I don't felt the previous heat I was facing before . And also to those people who thinks removing them might cause any fin damage - no sir , it does not . I have removed them at 300 km and till now at 10,000 kms I have not seen any cracks or extra noise . So no problem .
4. Speed - This is a cruiser - so any persons who think this is a HD or KTM please buy that and not this . I have ridden constantly at 100 to 110 kmph without getting any vibe , many are complaining about the vibes at this speed , but I am not getting it so can't comment . The max speed it can go is 115 to 120 kmph depending upon the rider's weight .
5. Silencer's - I am not making fun of other but WHY ? any one in their right mind want to change the OEM silencer to some after market or local made ? - Users please don't bash me on this - I love the look of an OEM bike rather than a unsatisfied aftermarket motorcycle whose sole purpose is to disturb other and show off - Owning an Enfield is a prestige some don't get it and destroy it by adding thumper - if you want to get a thumper buy CL 500 or CL 350 or Bullet why buy TB and destroy it's look - I mean really someone have lots of time to destroy a bike !
6. Spoke or Alloy - I prefer OEM rather going for after market alloy - If you are having wobble then simple tighten your spokes or add air psi to your tyres and if your sole purpose is for looks don't by RE . Buy other .
7. Maintenance - Till now only normal servicing has been done by me like :-
a. Engine oil change - every 3k
b. Oil filter change - same as above .
c. Air filter change - same as above .
d. Spark plug change - same as above .
And till now nothing has popped as a problem to me .
8. Headlight throw - I adjusted mine to a proper level , and have not faced any problems - maximum of the riders are complaining of the headlight throw problem I adjusted mine and riding happy .
9 . Brake oil - suspension oil - will get changed it the first changes it colour and the latter leaks .
10 . Battery - I use kick in the morning so never faced any starting issue . Please kick like you kick you you other bikes . Don't use Self . Reason - you know !
11. Disk brake pads - if the grooves are low then I will change - till now no change in grooves .
12. Rear Disk brake - Use both the brakes like CBS for effective brake otherwise there will be a wheel lock situation - specially during rainy season .
13. Leg guard - I don't need and I don't want a leg guards - Reason - looks ridiculous and adds unwanted weight - If users are saying what will happen if your bike falls down - to them I don't care what you are saying . My bike my looks . P.S - Till now never have fallen from TB so can't say about your handling or your balance .
14. Suspension - Great for bad roads and OK for highway speed .
15. Mileage - Am getting a steady 35 to 42 kmpl in city and highway .
16. Tank - has 20 ltr I use 15 ltr and switch to reserve at 5 ltr .
17. Engine - Has loads of torque - easy in highway and overtaking . Power is same as Hero KARIZMA or any 200 cc bike except KTM .
18. Seat - Is tad hard but it depends on your weight and how much you drive in a day . Greater weight and longer riding distance will cause buttocks sore.
19. Tyres - Ok , did not faced any puncture or skidding during rain .
20. Pillion Seat - Ok but see the point no. 18.
This is what I found and went through the 10,000 Km ride with this motorcycle .Last edited by Rohan12; 05-04-2017, 11:57 AM.Alert

Also I haven't had the guts to cross 80-90 tops because of the vibes but now i think it maybe because of the engine oil point that u mentioned..will change it to motul in my next service...
Rest of the points u have highlighted are spot on..cheers!!!

Crossing above 80 or 90 kmph on a RE (any cc ) is easy , at the first stage of running in period it is not recommended but after completing mine 2000 KM I did that . I don't get why customers complains that they can't go above 80 kmph !! I literally banged my head . I mean it is hell easssssyyyy to ride the bike in 100-120 kmph range all day long . Yes one thing you must notice the pull at the speed will be high like riding F14 in 5G force . The force at that speed is hugggggggeeeeee . You have to keep stable or work out daily
in order to ride at that speed . I ride daily at 115 kmph and occasionally riding in 120 kmph . And third people who are saying that this bike can ride at 130 kmph - it's completely bogus . RE 350 cc any model will have a top speed of 120 kmph . Yes some have 130 if you change your silencer add K and N AF and upjet your carburetor . But why destroy the bike !!
My advice ride at the speed you best prefer . Don't go by my words . I ride at those speed cause I love it and my body can take it . And Indian roads are not meant to be ridden at above 100 kmph no matter what highway the country builds because of - people , cows , dogs , cars with brainless drivers and WIFE - They all tend to create accident if you ride above 100 kmph .

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
It can cross 80 kmph easily but somehow I haven't got many opportunities to really give it full throttle as I mainly ride it only in heavy Mumbai traffic.[emoji28]..I have Barely clocked 1700 kms in over 8 months as I primarily take it to go to my gym and back...I know it's a cruiser and built for the highway mainly but I am 6.1 and currently a 100 kgs light so most of the other bikes really dint suit me much...plus my uncle had already clocked 70000 kms in a 2012 model so I was not very hesitant to pay the extra premium..I do want to start touring though but don't exactly have many biker friends in my friends circle..lol...all in all I really love my bike!!Originally posted by Rohan12 View PostI will show you the pics but later as I will be busy . Hows the handling in the mumbai traffic ?Originally posted by vj007 View PostIt can cross 80 kmph easily but somehow I haven't got many opportunities to really give it full throttle as I mainly ride it only in heavy Mumbai traffic.[emoji28]..I have Barely clocked 1700 kms in over 8 months as I primarily take it to go to my gym and back...I know it's a cruiser and built for the highway mainly but I am 6.1 and currently a 100 kgs light so most of the other bikes really dint suit me much...plus my uncle had already clocked 70000 kms in a 2012 model so I was not very hesitant to pay the extra premium..I do want to start touring though but don't exactly have many biker friends in my friends circle..lol...all in all I really love my bike!!
I have a quick suggestion for you - if you cross 6000 Kms please ASAP change to any other brand . I forgot to mention that in those Km my engine was making weird noise in the clutch side - like metal grinding noise and the noise was highly audible like a truck changing its gears - like that . At that time I was going for my Final year exam so can't change the oil at that time but later I went home and saw that the oil was immensely black and also there was less oil on the clutch side . I called the SVC guy he came within 15 min (the SVC is near my locality) he opened all the parts of the engine and came to the conclusion that the oil has lost its viscosity and is not pumping well through the oil pump and also the oil was thick and could not lubricate the clutch plates - I immediately gave him money to buy motul for me - he did and changed the oil and told me to ride for atleast 300 km - if the noise exists then the oil pump is faulty or if the noise is not there then the LG is not good for my bike . LG - Liquid Gun not LG ! .
So kindly note that Liquid Gun is not at all good and goes bad within 1000-1500 Km whereas any other reputated brand will last for 3000/2000 Km given the use of bike . So as a advice please look into this matter .Alert

In traffic the weight is not that much of an issue as I am quite used to it off late...it only becomes an issue at times if I have a heavy pillion riding along in very heavy traffic if I have to filter...but I kind of like the heavy weight now as it is rock solid at high speeds..Originally posted by Rohan12 View PostHows the handling in the mumbai traffic ?

This is what I found and went through the 10,000 Km ride with this motorcycle .
U can check my previous review here bro..Gonna put up an updated one soon.the bike is 1 year plus and 25000 kms old.

I see you have you fin rubbers attached at that time is it till intact now ?
I have removed mine at 150-200 kms sometime that and still now did not felt any disadvantage - sound or vibes but the point I noticed that the engine heat is going away faster than before I mean I can touch it (not the silencer) and the noise is some how little low (maybe brain tricks) - what about your case ?
And lastly I am planning to buy Royal Enfield Classic 500 - I have one question how to know you have low fuel as it is Fi not Carb ? I have opted out few bikes -
1. RE CL 500
2. Bajaj RS200
3. Bajaj NS200
4. Yamaha FZ25
5. Yamaha R15V2
6. KTM Duke 200 2017
7. RE BUL 500
I have a budget of 2.10 lacs and all this falls under it . But I have one problem I can't let go the feeling of owning a RE . I have test ridden all but I really want RE 500 series . Others are modern I mean way advanced than RE but the feeling and the less maintenance and high mileage (In my case) my RE gives all of them fails to do so and the feeling is not there . So really cant make up my mind will it be RE or other brands !
So please help me !Alert

If u wanna spend 2.10 lacs on the above options u can go on with the KTM series.well i have always been a re fan.but owning one is always a pain.No premium level of after sales service. On close experience from a friend know what problems a cl500 has given him even by maintaining the bike like a girlfriend [emoji12] . Especially the pathetic FI RE provides.the best in class in all the above options is KTM as their service and also bike is of optimum performance and level.Leave aside bajaj as they have the same problem of quality, but their KTM outlets are still the best.hope this helps bro.

And in case of RE FI I think cleaning it at every 6000 Km will be good and whenever the fuel light gets on immediately fuel up - will this process works ?
Maintenance wise - in my case only Oil + filter + AF fil + spark - has been changed at every 2000 - 3000 km with drive chain tighted at around 3000 km - still has the same slackness with 10 mm - I oil it at every service of my own . Did not faced any issue man !Alert
