Look at it this way, at 8K RPM, the Ninja is entering its powerband whereas the P220 is pretty much on the way to trailing off.
^+1 indeed. The 220 would be on the verge of collapse. The Ninja would happily rev past the 8k mark!
Riding is a way of life. Sometimes, it might also be a way of giving life. So Ride safe. In both contexts.

      Interesting comparo

      YouTube - 2010 Bennche Megelli 250R vs. Kawasaki Ninja 250R Motorcycle Shoot-out

The Megelli, looks quite good. And with the seating position of that of a supersport is sure to be a hit in the poser gang.

By the way, I have used Cramster Saddle bags on the Ninja for quite a long tour. They do well.
If you have the money go for the RJays. Cramster Colt at 1.5K are a VFM option.

Buddy, did you do any modifications to the Colt? I bought one too but it doesn't set properly on the bike.

Im a novice to this XBHP community .... i bought the Ninja250R Lime Green on 31st Dec'10 and it's been 13 days now that i have been riding it.. 550+ km done and during the 1st phase of full tank it showed a efficicency of 25km/Ltr... but there are some concerns for the experienced members of this forum:
                    1. On 31st Dec i rolled the bike out from the Showroom and proceed to Khivraj for a briefing by Prasanna. then i took it to the temple with my parents... the experience i had with the power then is different from what it is now. the torque whihc was present initially looks to have reduced a lil...I rode for around 150Km at higher rpms(6-8K) but in intervals... Is this a serious matter of concern for the pickup to drop(when drove below 4K rpm) or it's normal.
                    2. what will the be other driving tips during the first 800Kms.
                    3. Changing the gears at stationary position... How does it effect the gear box.
                    4. During the First start in the morning is it required to wait untill the engine settles down i.e below 2K rpm...
                    Welcome to the club!

I'm not as experienced as many others in this forum but i'll try to answer your questions!
                    1. when i first revved my ninja past 6k rpm, i felt alot of power but with time, i got used to it and now, unless i take a break of weeks in between or something, it doesnt surprise me...maybe that answers your question! i personally dont think you've done any damage to the engine unless you've crossed 12k rpm but if you still have any doubt then take it to pbk and consult with the experts! i've ridden my bike in torrential rain, mud and extreme dirt during its first 600kms and hence got my air filter cleaned during my first service and to be honest, i did feel an improvement immediately afterwards so dont sweat it, just take it to the pbk!
                    2. i didnt follow the breaking in rules, i did my best to keep it under 4k rmp for the initial 600km then i just got bored and revved it intermittently till 8k rpm! after my 1st service, i just ripped it! i have done 3000km and my bike feels just as good (as far as i can tell)
                    3. I HAVE NO IDEA...when i miss shifting down whilst stopping, i used to shift down a couple of gears when stationary so we both are on the same boat!
                    4. be it morning, evening and anytime really, never ride off as soon as you start your baby! i always wait for 2-3mins till it comes back from over 2000rpm to 1400rmp sometimes even lower, till 1300rmp and even then after i make a move, i make it a point to ride for 10mins until i rev it above 6k rmp!

hope i've been of help! i'm sure others will shed some more light to your concerns!

The 25 km/ltr sounds about correct BUT my Ninja was not fuel-injected. However I did get a max. of 25 km/ltr.

As far as the "pickup drop" at higher RPM is concerned, I obviously cannot help you since I am not sitting on your bike. Also what do you mean by "pickup drop"? You should ask a local Ninja 250 owner to check it out.

Bottomline: the 250 should accelerate pretty smoothly with only a slight RPM drop as you upshift.

                      2. what will the be other driving tips during the first 800Kms.
Ah, new bike break in procedures. This is a topic of heated debate. A quick search didn't reveal any break in procedures for the 250 on this forum, but I follow this (translate units, of course):

New Motorcycle Check list, Break in

Read the stuff under "How to break in your new bike". I agree with his opinion on the first oil change. I did notice a lot of metal flakes in my oil .

                      3. Changing the gears at stationary position... How does it effect the gear box.
Shouldn't, but why do you want to go past first gear in stationary position?

                      Ride safe, later.

                      • Also know that your Ninja is almost at reserve when you ride it out of the showroom so it is much lighter. You will experience a sluggishness when you ride again on a tank full because of the fuel weight.

My Ninja has different acceleration rates with and without my touring luggage. Ninja is low torque so even a slight change in weight matters a lot in the 'pick-up' as you call it.

Nope. What seems to be the problem?

Attached are a couple of pics with the saddle bags on my Ninja.

I also was under an impression that the bags was not a proper fix..
even i was also going for the same..

thanks for the clicks.. Hope it would be good if you can post a DIY for fitting the bags..

So while stuffing the bag with the items.. i thing a good weight distribution is needed.
                            RIP Marco

really interesting stuff. how to turbo charge without blowing out your ninja engine.

another fact from the turbo blog is that the ECU can be reprogrammed to compromise on fuel efficiency ,your ninja may still out perform the regular ninja. this mod will be also a lot cheaper/free. but one should not forget to iron out some extra cooling with radiator when you increase the fuel flow.

in a high speed bike like ninja, what ever saddle bag you use should be designed for high speed operation. the bag should be a perfect fit and should not come loose during speed, which can be disastrous to you and bike.

i am having an rjays from bachu motors. i have found it perfect for ninja. a saddle bag on the ninja to be treated at a level next to your riding helmet in terms of safety.
