I have booked my ninja 250 r recently and would be getting delivery within a week.I wanted to seek some advice from you. I was thinking of upgrading the rear tyres from 130/70 to 150/60 .... would it be good ??? ... for the sake of the lean angles ... do i need to upsize the front tyres as well ??? ...

There is absolutely no point in adding a 150/60 tyre to the ninja except for poser value.

Its definitely going to affect your acceleration bcos of the tyre drag
Its going to lower your mileage because of the tyre drag
Its going to affect your cornering because of the bigger tyre.

It will add a lil bit more stability but that comes with the above problems.

My advice is not to change it unless you want tp make it pose as a bigger bike

Imagine a phat ass Florence Griffith Joyner (All time womens 100m record holder). It aint goint to do her any good in what she is supposed to do except for the looks

Second that. Suggest that you keep her as stock as possible..You will love it!
With the bigger tyres you are in for lesser topend, mileage and handling.

regarding the frame sliders...etc you cant get them in hyderabad.
you can either order it from indian websites like planetdsg.com,PRS..etc or if you can source it from us then get it from there as it will save $$$
Thanks for the clarification regarding Frame Sliders. Do you know of any specific place where i can get the paint guard / Paint Protection done for the bike.

hey ron, the system is not locally made, it's imported from china and is brand new... the manufacturer claims 3-5hp gains, but can't confirm that till I put one on the dyno... I'm planning on importing this regularly, so put up a test posting to gauge interest... Will import as per order now, until I develop a stock to sell on demand... Also planning on bringing down the tyga brand to India... Wish me luck...

                • Finally got my rear sets installed. Here's how they look.

A very very very big thanks to "jeofpereira" for redirecting me to to correct source suitable for my requirements.

Though I had slight difficulty fitting them and that's why it took around 5 days for me to get it perfectly fixed according to my choice, it was worth every second.

The difference is about 2-3 inches back and 1-2 inches high. I being 6 feet tall had difficulty grabbing the tank with my knees. This was the 1st thing I noticed when I rode my bike out of the showroom.
Now I'm ready for cornering and knee scrapping around the city.

P.S - the 5 days invested only include 1-2 hrs daily (that too on wednesday the shops are closed here)

@jeofpereira - you don't know what a big help you've been, but remember this, when i'll be riding and enjoying my bike, you and your friend would have a big hand in it.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Pretty reasonable price. The ones on the internet are for around 20K or so. These ones are way cheaper
Just got them delivered yesterday and working on installation now.
Send me a PM if your interested, i'll forward you the contact details I got from Jeofpereira.
Why not post details here for the benefit of the other owners and the community? If you can share more details such as pricing, etc. it would be great.

What oil did you put after the first service? I would recommend using Motul Mineral (dont recollect the product code) and get the fairing bolts tightened. That might solve the issue since the engine will run a lot more smoother.

Looks neat. Can you post a pic of someone (could be you also ) sitting on the bike with feet on the pegs and if possible on another ninja so i can see how much the difference is?

You can go for the rear seat cowl. Its just a cover that swaps out the pillion seat. Not advised if you ride with a pillion. Get a set of rim tapes (planet dsg or performance racing store in mumbai has them), some decals and vinyls if you want to make it look more sporty (google for race ninja's to see what stickers and where/how to paste them).

                        • Deliberately creating a separate post.

                          ------------------------------------------------------------------

I've done almost 21,000 kms on my bike so far. Its not much compared to the other veterans here considering my ninja will be two years old next month.

I vivdly remember each and every ride on this machine, the planned and the abrupt/unplanned ones - to ooty, wayanad, chennai, yelagiri, yercaud, mysore, and tons of places within karantaka.

Its been a fantastic journey and i never for once faced any reliability issues. I've taken really good care of her and she moans to me pretty often reciprocating the love and enjoyment we both share on our rides together (the moan is a faint sound from the gas tank ).

So i got her a gift for my birthday (which was back in Feb this yr). Its the bike monkey LED tail lamp. Not integrated with any turn signals. This is just the tail lamp but in smoked lens. Looks great since the rear has a blacked out look when the lights are off and when the led's glow the bike is visible for quite a distance. Cost me US$100. Not cheap but looks great

                          Here are some pikchars

A couple of my friends keep asking me to sell the bike to them. I cannot think of parting ways with my darling. For a puny 250cc bike this one just blows my mind everytime i ride out. Fantastic stability, excellent acceleration and brilliant reliability, looks, etc. Even if i upgrade to a bigger bike this one shall remain with me. Its so simple to ride and is very forgiving too. A bigger bike comes with a nasty temper.

P.S. Just thought i'd share. apologies if i bored someone.

Congrats on the purchase bro... If you really want a bigger tyre go in for a 140 and see if you like it... Some people have recommended the fz rear tyre for a trial as it is cheap, but not reliable for high speeds... Try buying a k&n replacement air filter... It will not void your warranty and give you a small boost... If you go in for an aftermarket exhaust slip on/full system, be ready to kiss your warranty good bye... Good luck!!!

I have a 140 profile Pirelli Sport Demon on my rear wheel. See pics above. Looks great but she handles much much better than the stock IRC. With the IRCs i used to feel the rear slide a bit or squishy when cornering hard. With this tire, no such issues. Have taken the bike to the TWO track school twice and have shaved off the chicken strips and nicely ground the last bit of tread on the sides of this tire.

One piece of advice - Avoid the FZ Tire. It will destroy the handling and stability of the bike since the specs are completely different and the compound is hard too.

You can go for K&N but performance improvement will be very marginal. I had it and went back to stock. The low end and mid range improves slightly and i find it easier and quicker to clean the stock filter than the K&N cos the K&N takes a long time to dry out before you can oil it and use it again.

Regarding warranty, even adding a K&N filter will void warranty (but you can swap it with the foam filter when going for service).
