      • Karizma ZMR

Hi all, I bought it 2 days back in Dhanbad. Due to less supply, the showroom gets only 2 pieces every month, and i made the mistake of rejecting a black one in February , which was standing in the showroom, cuz i didn't like the minute scratches and the fact that the engine was started for everyone who came to see it.I had the old 2006 zma in pune and sold it last year there before coming to dhanbad, as i had no plans of further studies, but now i have to study further 4 years, so i thought what the heck i will buy it again.

I have completed 210 km since then. Till now, i had to ride my brother's pulsar 150 for last 8 months and i was sick of it. Now that i have it, i am completely at peace. I also took test ride of P220 dtsi. But it felt so much like other pulsars, that i was amazed how can people even buy that? Same vibrations, cheap plastic, squeaky engine, and weird gearbox, not good for tall people like me (i am 6'3"). Although the power at high rpm does feel like somewhat, but who wants a stunt bike anyways, at least not me. Why those overdrive and other reviewers say that P220 feels more sturdy than karizma? feels like a promotion technique to me.

Back to my ZMR. First of all the color is not gloss black, its metallic panther black, and way better than red and yellow in zmr. Although i wanted to buy a blue one, but due to less supply i went on and bought it. I didn't want such stylish looks, almost like a 600 cc bike, as someone called it a "hayachusa".But i bought it for the Tourer genes and utter comfort. Also i was sick of bloody Carburetors ! The fairing has to removed from the bottom even if you want to open spark plug or drain engine oil. Also the fairing behind the front mud guard (which looks as if it can block all mud and slush from going inside the fairing on the oil cooler) does only minimal job in light rains. I had to wash it very carefully. It is stated in the manual not to wash near the oil cooler with "high pressure". I also don't like over usage of red all over the fairing and the rear suspension. I plan to turn them golden with hero honda's permission.

The engine feels a little softer and better timed than earlier models. Always loved the torque at low rpm. In fact i always felt the gear ratios are set too low, i mean you can shift to 5th gear at speed of 45, same speed at which a pulsar, passion shifts. I think i will change rear sprocket later on accordingly. The pleasant electric motor kind of sound from earlier karizma is not audible now, maybe cuz its new or due to the fairing enclosure, but thats not a serious problem. And at idle the engine is thumpy, which makes the rear view mirrors vibrate a little, but vibrations are gone as soon as you rev it. The acceleration is smoother too. I feel that the throttle response is better than before. Same clutch and gearbox. But i didn't like the 'too smooth to feel' kind of gearbox in P220. At least i know in zma that gear is engaged.

Lots of people raised doubts and some intelligent ones tried to clear them about the fairing and engine overheating. Let me assure you, there is no overheating issue. Only that they feel the heat in the fairing after driving in hot. The fairing picks up little heat of engine and also due to the sun and hot air. And it is felt after coming indoors at home, where the air is cooler then you touch the fairing and go Oh, it is overheated! But that's not the case. All air cooled bikes get that hot, only there was no fairing in them to feel the heat with hands, and no one bothered to touch the engines to see how hot they had got!

Display is refreshing and accurate, some reviewers found out only 2% and less error in km\hrs displayed. And everything is visible under bright sun, unlike in fazers. I liked the analog ones, as you can see the needles "accelerating" in your peripheral vision, you don't have to focus on them. When the needle went till 100 in older zma's in a jiffy, it was a treat to watch. The welcome message is displayed every time the key is turned on, and goes off to show the trip meter quickly if the bike is moved that is it gains speed of 2 km/hr or more. I am tall so i don't have any problem in viewing the fuel meter.

The actual mileage displayed is damn accurate too. The manual states that during coasting with driving at good speed and clutch pressed fully, it shows 199.9 cuz minimal fuel is consumed. In actual city driving, it shows all the figures from 97 to 20 km/lt due to various driving conditions. But i have seen on highway, that at 3000 rpm in top gear, it shows more than 60 easily due to minimum throttle variations. Its hard to calculate actual mileage for short or city trips, since it changes every 10 seconds, but you cna get an idea of how much mileage in which gear and how much throttle opening and use that to the fullest on the highway.

Riding stance is slightly better than before. And the bike does not feel as if its 160 kg at all. In fact it feels like a fazer only, but better balanced than that. The front and rear brakes are Nissin. The rear brakes are engaged as soon as you press the lever, no lever play is present. Front one is too spongy, i was used to the older ones which engaged with one finger and were too sensitive. The ground clearance is given 159 mm, whereas i found in magazines that the older zma's clearance was lesser than this! Hard to believe for me. Rear suspension feels slightly better than before, and are at par with P220 if not better than that.

The rear view mirrors are perfect, and show everything other than your biceps as in case of other bikes. And from the riding angle, the mirrors look a lot like Ninja's! It feels little awkward to me, shift from the round ugly mirrors in older zma to these ultra stylish ones. But to reach out and adjust the mirror while driving, you will have to have rubber arms like the one in fantastic four! Cuz they are way farther than usual mirrors.

        Weird things in the manual:
        1. No info on how to store the bike for long term.
        2. It states that the tubeless tyres get damaged as soon they are punctured and no plug job can restore it to its fullest capability. It says that even if the plug is of high quality and done perfectly, the tyre will be risky to ride with load or double seated, and can't be run at speed more than 125. They say only solution to a punctured tyre is "replacement" !
        3. The info on engine running-in is minimal, and only says that the engine gets tuned till 1000 km, and no instructions of how much rpm till how many kms!

P.S.: I plan to take the bike to Jodhpur (Rajasthan) in about 1 year. But i am afraid of sending via train parcel, since they damage bikes most of times. Please tell me anything to help, like can i load and unload in front of my eyes, or should i take it via GT road to delhi and jaipur and from there to jodhpur?

Very well said. And one more thing is most of these bikes are in runnin-in period and engine is heated more than normal in this time because of the friction in its parts.

It would've been forgotten but because of few members who overused that term.

                        • hey everyone... my hayachusa has arrived

                          ITS AMAZING!!!!!

Im from Bangalore. Ordered yesterday. Delivered today. Registration happening on monday (so cant ride it out in the open much).

My dealer said he had ready stock of red and white and that any other color would take more time. Although during my research phase, i called up all the hero honda dealers in bangalore and each of them said that they have different colours in stock. So actually every color is available you just need to get the right dealer.

When i was riding the bike back home, i was stopped by a tempo driver who was inquiring about the bike and its cost. Later on he told me " saab aapka aur gaadi ka fitting hai "

Came home, and gave the bike to my dad for a ride.. he just went down the road and came back - and he was followed buy this guy on a pulsar 150 who wanted to inquire about how the bike was

                          AWESOMENESS!!!!!

                          Cheers.

                                congratulations to new zmr owners.......

friends... i would like to share one incident with you.....one of by friends zmr oil cooler developed leakage and when he took the bike to svc it was found that the copper pipe got leaked due to some impact.

so i would say take care of your riding habits and avoid stones under your bike.
