My ZMR always had Champion plug, right from the day I took delivery. Changed it at 12K only because it was recommended. Plonked another one. Been running fine since.

To add to the merits of the plug, my dad has the same plug on his Splendor since 1998 and he's clocked 2lac kms with not many plug changes. He changes plugs at around 25k kms though. That means, he may have changed the plug 7-8 times in 14 years.

But, I completely agree to PSR sir, NGKs are better. People say that NGKs help in better combustion and somehow aid in overall better throttle response.
Read only praises about NGKs over the web.
champions may be good but the quality of champion stands no way near NGK. I have used both NGK as stock ran for 18k kms and then due to unavailability of NGK i got champion as i was going for a trip of 1650kms after which i changed the champion plug with NGK iridium at nearly 2k kms. after the removal the color of plug was black unlike NGK which was clear. cleaned both the plugs and found out the condition of 18k kms ran NGK is in better shape than 2k kms champion.

      • Me too ! I switched my Splendor's plug from the OE NGK-CR7HSA to NGK-CR7HGP(G-Power) then to Champion PRZ7HC at 10000kms . Faltu experimentation as you know I do all the time . Firing is smooth and no fouling yet after 2000kms now . Not much difference to the OE NGK I can see . Reliability - can't tell yet . The G-power is definitely better than both , ever so slightly but you can feel it . Champion is sold in India by Federal-Mogul , after the brand has changed several hands in the past years ... it was a popular plug ever since I was riding in the 1980s . I think it is of US origin .

Maverik , your Champion plug seems to be over-gapped relative to the NGK ?

oh yes since i was cleaning had done it with screwdriver. correct gap is with NGK 0.9mm which i had done with the help of feeler gauge after cleaning. Didnt corrected the gap on champion bcoz i dont have to use it and its not worth the time :P

            • My name is Anoop and I am owning Karizma ZMR for the last 16 months.
Completed 13800 Kms as of today. Getting an overall mileage of 41-42.
I am following this thread for the last couple of months. The information available in this thread is very helpful to maintain the bike.

I am planning to change the engine oil to Mobil1 10w40/Shell SS 10w40 (Out of these 2 which one is better for ZMR?)

My ZMA-R is running with Amron 9AH without issues for a year now....ZMR having a better generator ,will also be able to work well with higher rated batteries....The question of Compatibility will be the size...a 6 A battery cage in ZMR is much smaller ,and so a physical dimension check must be done before opting for the 8 A battery.

well mobil1 10w40 is anyday better than Shell SS 10w40 and even Shell ADV ultra 10w40 FS but Shell SS 10w40 is still very good oil if you are considering price to performance ratio (shell SS - 320rs: Shell ultra - 730rs : mobil1 - 750rs).
PS: i have never used Mobil1 bcoz of the availability here in lucknow but heard its praises. used both Shell SS and FS and both are good but Shell SS AX7 is very good oil considering its price whereas Shell ADV ultra failed to impress me though it is still the best oil i have used so far.
                    am i confusing??? :P

Thanks for the quick reply Maverik.. As per your reply it looks like mobil1 10w40 is way better than any of Shell oils.

One answer - Mobil1 FS 10W40. more smooth. more life.
I am not considering price here as a factor. just experience it and you'll know.
Using it since 2.5k kms and highly satisfied.

                          • Mobil1 10w40 FS v/s Motul 300V Factory Line 10w40 Fs

Pasting my exact reply to Dhiraj from our private conversation about my experience with Mobil1 10w40 FS and Motul 300V Factory Line 10w40 Fs because I think it needs to be shared here...

Hi Dhiraj.. Now I'm also using Mobil1 10w40 oil.. It's a fantastic oil and having already used Motul 300V 10w40, I feel both are at par... Can't really notice any difference b/w two.. Maybe it'll take more experienced n seasoned eyes of a biker.. Even then also, I would rate Motul just a little higher than Mobil1 but it's just my personal one time usage experience... Next time I'll again go for motul and try to notice the difference on accounts such as engine heat, smoothness, life, etc which I previously didn't notice coz I was too busy enjoying my ride.. :-)

Both are near perfect oils... Still I need to switch to motul for one more time to know the difference.. Maybe this time also I won't notice any.. The ride is so smooth I just get lost...

                              • Guys I had a very annoying experience today. Went to a tire dealer for PSD 110/18.
But, he said its a TT tire.

I explained him a lot that it is TL, but he insisted on saying it is TT. I didn't buy the tire.
