Next time don't brake, downshift and pin it, head on. I may sound heartless but that's the only safe way to counter a situation like this.

Dog dies, you'll be safe. Else Dog lives for a few more minutes PAINFULLY and god forbid the same thing might happen to you.

Anyways, forget the bike for now and just concentrate on recovering (y)

I'd no time to brake at all. I t-boned the dog.

Everything happened so fast then. And speaking about that had a friend who bought a RTR ABS the old one, at the time he wasn't used to fast bikes and the concept of how ABS works, when he saw the dog the braked hard and turned the bike, he originally intended to stop like they show in the ads and movies, but he ended up with a high side and broke his shoulder bone.

Stupid dogs... If they try to cross, I would sort of try to run over them like a speed breaker. Don't know if it'll work.

Yesterday when coming back from work my clutch wire broke and bike struggled to a halt. Called the nearby ASCs. Didn't seem like anyone would come. Was considering towing as there wasn't a place close by where I could park the bike for the night.I called km0311 bro who was very kind and offered to get the spare and meet me if required. Finally Chengalpet ASC guy came to rescue and fixed it for me. He asked for ₹150 (incl spare cost) I paid ₹200. Total time wasted as 1.5 hours.

This thing happened with my Hunk also one time. Guess we must keep a spare clutch cable on long drives. Another thing I'm worried about is the front brake cable. I have a feeling it will break as it is starting to feel loose like a TVS50 rear brake. Is it really possible or do I just need to do some adjustment?

In this case of emergency, you can start the bike using self.. push the bike to a speed of 5kmph and shift the gear without clutch and ride.. but only in case of emergency.. always carry the inner cable and the hold which can always serve the purpose when you need em. They dont last long, however they can last longer on the highways..

Disc Brakes dont have brake cables like the drum brakes have while disc brakes have braided hose which hold the Disc brake Oil..

Check the disc oil level.. get the ASC to top it up if required. Else there might be air bubbles which needs to be cleared. Air bubbles reduce the crispness..

                  • Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

I also had my share of accidents with dog. First one when i was in school. Was on a SUZUKI MAX 100 of my uncle, and that max 100 was well maintained like new and had great Pick-up like all two strokes. Since on two strokes twisting the throttle is a great pleasure, just shifted to 3rd from second and gave the throttle. Bike shooted ahead and in no time i was at 50 kph in third gear when a pack of dogs came out. The dogs were all on road and there was no place to pass them. Hit one of them on the rear thigh and max 100 being super light lost balance. Bike fell on left side with skidding like hrithik roshan in KAHO NAA PYAR HAI. The thing was bike was in air and the only point of contact between ground and bike was my left knee. Thanks to the jeans pant( those days we used to wear those thick jeans with the stitching done in multiple folds and the fabric was pure cotton and too thick) and my strong legs( used to play football at district level) nothing happened. Got up and looked at bike, nothing happened. Looked at the leg and nothing had happened only the thick fold of stitching had burned of due to friction. If it would have todays thin jeans my leg would have been badly bruised.Second incident happened recently with my extreme when i was going to office on monday. Had already rode 130 km and last 30 km passes through some villages on way. So at the start of a village it was quite a rush as a house was on fire, so i slowed down and shifted to second gear and gave the beans. Suddenly a dog(very healthy one) came out from the rush, i saw that if i braked i will fall and the extreme didn't have a single fall till date, so shifted the bike to first gave the throttle and held the handle tightly, and blowed the horn. The front wheel climbed on the dog and he squatted due to weight as bike is 148 kg with a full tank of fuel, i am 74 kg and luggage was at 20kg. As the front wheel climbed it was easier for the rear wheel. All this happened in fraction of seconds and i was amazed, how fast my mind worked. Stopped and looked at the dog. Nothing happened as it got up and shaked itself and ran away.

I didn't consider starting the bike without clutch. Thanks for the tip. Might come in handy during desperate situations.

I asked the ASC to check the brakes thoroughly. Don't know if they did. Maybe its time to change brake pad as well.

I ran over a pup once on both wheels and it did not get hurt at all.

I forgot to mention in Neutral Start the bike in neutral and push the bike til you reach some 5 kmph in neutral of course and shift the gear to 1st and you are ready to go.. I had to do this with no other choice with a friend's ZMR clutch cable went kaput.. he called me up and said he was getting late for an exam.. i handed over my Hunk and brought his bike home without using clutch, got the inner cable and the cable hold, fit it and handed it over to him in the evening as at that time the clutch cable for ZMA/ZMR wasn't in stock..

P.S. the inner cable might last some 50-100 kms depending on how much you use the clutch.. however, on the highways it might last longer as we won't be using the cable much.. It will at max cost you 15 to 20/- only for both the cable and the cable hold available at any spare parts store

                        Cheers,

Guys.. I have started to notice a tuck tuck noise from the bike, when I shift from first to neutral, from low speeds like say 5kmph to a halt..
Once what happened, the bike randomly downshifted from third to neutral. I was in second gear, and when I shifted to third and released the clutch it went to neutral. I immediately caught the clutch lever and stopped the bike to see what was wrong.. Nothing happened then, but I started to notice the tuck tuck sound from the neutral gear when I reached home later that day..

The sound comes from the gear lever area.. Around the front sprocket.. Guys.. Please tell me what the problem is..

CHeck your chain slackness, as it would have been excessively tightened. Correct the chain slackness.

I rode to Vijayawada last Saturday morning, and as soon as I reached, just got a call from an unknown number when I was on another call. Later received a message "Divya here, met with accident, need urgent help". Was puzzled a bit, and called back immediately. Then, I heard shaken Divya's voice that he met with an accident and that his elbow got dislocated. I got panicked, and I was not in Hyderabad to help him directly. Lot of coordination happened with so many calls, Divya started to Hyderabad in a car, left his bike there at a dhabha, and finally Jaijeet took him to KIMS for treatment. Srikirshna Das was in Yamaha service center to service his amitiel when I called. He immediately left the bike there, Deepan went to pick Srikrishna, and they rode to Kothakota (140 kms from Hyderabad) at night to locate the ZMR and bring it to Hyderabad. It was one hell of a ride for them, riding in heavy rain, trying to locate the unknown dhabha somewhere on highway, name and details unknown. Dhabhas were closed and it was pitch dark. When they almost gave up, they could find it finally. They rode back to home in rain at around 3 am in the morning. Meanwhile, Jaijeet was there with Divya attending to the hospital needs. He was discharged late night after the dislocated elbow was fixed and immobilized. Gaurav Kolte stayed for the night with Divya at the hotel.

The timely help of Jaijeet, Srikrishna, Deepan, and Gaurav is invaluable. Everyone has taken time out of their busy schedules, in helping a fellow biker. They proved that we bikers are a family and I am really proud of them.

Just rode @Divya Sharan's white pearl to my home from @HeartBrokenBiker's (Srikrishna) place, 20 kms. Left my ZMA at his place. All the while I wondered how Srikrisha rode the bike for 150 kms to get the bike from accident place to his home. The right side footpeg gone, and he rode the bike with one leg in touring position, and another leg in racing position (right foot on rear foot peg). :O My leg was paining just for 20 kms in that position.

Inspected the bike and these are my observations.

                              1. The right side fairing is intact, eventhough it received minor scratches. No rattlings were found so the joints are intact.
                              2. Right clipon bent. The bar-end weight also bent.
                              3. Right foot peg is completely gone and the brake lever deformed.
                              4. The silencer shield got scratches.

Apart from above, everything is intact. I left the handle bar at 40 and 60 kmph and the bike is going straight like an arrow, so bent forks ruled out. According to me, the damage is minimal comparitively. Once the foot peg is fixed, then the bike can be ridden without any issues.

Wishing Divya for his speedy recovery. Will be glad to see him on the bike again.

Faith restored! After going through this post of yours, i seriously feel guilty as there was nothing i could have done for a fellow rider with whom i've gone for rides on many occasions and was like an elder brother to me. But i seriously feel proud of being a part of a community with members who are more than willing to give up their commitments and step forward selflessly AT ANY GIVEN TIME OR SITUATION and coming to think of it, heavy rains and riding a bike without one foot-peg rite through the night, tops it all without doubt! Helmets off to all the guys who at one point or the other have selflessly helped a fellow rider. And this particular incident only brings goosebumps to me by just thinking how one community brings together countless brothers sharing the same feelings and thoughts.
When i texted @Divya Sharan, he said it would take about 2 months to recover fully and his bike was damaged even more. After hearing one good news that the bike has suffered easily-repairable damages, i only wish to hear another news of him being fit and fine in the near future, having gained an invaluable experience from life which this incident had to offer and which helps him in being more cautious. Without a doubt we too get to learn a lot.
Bro i only wish i could have done something more for you than just sit and type this. If there is still anything left, feel free. We all are there. Get well soon. Xbhp is waiting for its mod to spring back to action! All the best!
