Guys I have a doubt. Friend of mine bought a mahindra xuv and the showroom guys tell her to open the throttle and try reaching speeds if 150-160 asap. Another guy got a skoda and the same instructions were given. However for a swift, the company says not to go beyond 70-80 for upto 3k kms. Which method is correct? Does it depend on the car?

Refer to this popular break-in guide, that specifically advises to avoid "freeways", during running in:

Yes, I've been varying the rpm and I'm not crossing more than 65 kmph! Also changed my oil at 250 kms!

I had touched 70 only once during the run in. Yes I do keep varying the rpm and shift at 4.5k rpm using all the gears! I've clocked 500kms now, should I give it for service now, or do I ride till 700kms and give it? Instead of Vellore, Pondy would be a better place to go!!

I'd like to set the default position a bit lower, so that I don't have to constantly strain my right ankle while I'm NOT depressing the brake paddle.
To ensure that I'm not accidentally pressing the brake I always end up straining my ankle muscles. I do not feel the same strain on left ankle because I normally rest the left foot under the gear shift lever. Now I can't safely do the same thing with my right foot, at least within city limits! Has anyone faced the same problem? I'm hypothesizing that in my case, it's because of my long legs that my right foot is making a very acute angle with the shin causing the strain.

I got used to ride with my foot under the break and I bring it up whenever I need to break

And also during the run in period, my daily commute is 60kms average, on the highway. I keep varying the rpm, once the bike touches 65kmph, I let go off the accelerator till it reaches 50 and then continue the process. Am I doing anything wrong?

I do exactly that when on a highway or an open stretch, but I don't feel confident to do that in city traffic, since it significantly increases the reaction time for me.
With practice I might be able to turn it to a reflex and bring down the reaction time, but it'd still be a workaround and not a solution.

So the question remains, can we adjust the brake paddle? :what:

How many km have you done so far?

493 kms so far!! most of my run in was on the highway, but I managed to vary the rpm across the gears.. Haven't used the bike in the city much, yet..

It's recommended to vary not only the rpm, but also the gears. And it's particularly the latter that doesn't typically happen much on a highway.
If you have varied both then you are doing great, nothing to worry about!

Since you have already changed your first oil I don't think it matters much whether u do your servicing now or at 700 km. This is because the oil change is the most significant thing they do in first servicing. As far as my experience goes, I can tell they hardly did anything other than changing the oil and washing the bike. They didn't even bother to work on the minor adjustments I had explicitly put on the job card (like accelerator and clutch cable play)!

On a different note, when I had gotten the bike from the showroom, the seat cover was stapled to the seat!! And after few days the pins started coming off. When I had asked them about this they were like this is what they do for all their customers. Was yours the same stapled seat cover when you had first gotten the bike?

Don't know how your brake levers are positioned, but my bike has about 2-3 cms of an angle between the foot rest and the lever on a horizontal plane. Hence, no chance of burning the brake all the time.

P.S: One needs to keep the balls of the feet on the pegs, not the ankle. I practiced that for quite a while and I'm comfortable doing that. Even if I place my foot at the halfway mark between the ankle and the toes, it is comfortable.

No, I didn't get any seat cover done from the showroom. I got it done from a big shop that specializes in seat covers. They also stapled it, but it was of really high quality. I had got the same thing done for my old unicorn, and didn't come off in 8 years!
BTW, my original seat fabric had a crease/ bump around 4-5 inches from the front tip, which surfaces from even under the seat cover.

                              I'm confused here :what:
How will I press the paddle if I keep the ball of my foot on the pegs? Not even the tip of my toes will reach the paddle! Are you suggesting moving the foot back and forth to apply the brakes every time? That will also be a slow thing...
I've tried placing the peg at the half way mark of my foot (at the arches), but even that doesn't feel fully comfortable. For me, the natural angle of my ankle is 2-3 cm below where the brake paddle is, anything less will cause a strain eventually.

So again, the question remains: is the brake paddle angle adjustable?
