Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Again some questions to veteran ZMR owners:
1. RVMs
Is it just me, or are the ZMR's RVMs known to be problematic?
I have several problems with them:- They are totally disobedient (particularly my left one, after it took a small hit), and seems to have a mind of their own! Minutes after I adjust it, it changes its angle on its own, pointing downwards, rendering itself useless.
- They vibrate furiously! The moment I cross around 40Km/h, the images become a blur, and it becomes difficult to make out individual vehicles.
- As far as I can tell, these RVMs are NOT convex mirrors as they should be. This results into a very narrow field of vision, larger blind-spots, and requires more frequent and precise adjustments. This is also the reason it doesn't have the famous "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" text on them.
I'm pretty frustrated with them! Any solutions / alternatives / workaround will be really REALLY appreciated!
2. Oil change / 2nd Servicing
What's the ideal/recommended draining interval of the Shell Advance AX7?
As some of you would remember, I have been using the AX7 on my new ZMR since the first servicing (@ ~500Km on odo), and had done an intermediate oil change with the Hero one at around 275 Km on odo.
Had done the AX7 oil change myself at home with approx 1.1 liter (didn't have a measuring cylinder at that time, but now I do). At present my bike has done some 2250 km.
Question is when should I do the next oil change -at 2500 Km or earlier?
I should skip oil change when I give the bike for second servicing at 3000 km, right?
3. O-Ring for Oil Draining Nut
The user manual recommends replacing this O-ring every time oil is changed. However, I had not changed it last time, and thankfully there was no oil leak. Exactly same goes for AmoghDox 's ZMR (which we did together) but I'd prefer not to take chances this time. Amogh had tried getting a pack of these O-rings from the SVC when he had gone for his 1st servicing, but they couldn't identify it. Does anyone know if they are known by any other name or part number? I tried looking up in the ZMA Spares document (from Divya's signature), but couldn't pin point one as there were too many different ones.
Do you guys really replace the O-ring on every oil change? How do you buy these? LOL, I mean, what do you say you want?
(I know I'm sounding both funny and desperate
)

For some the rear mirrors are a pain in the behind and for some it hasn't been a pain.. I am using my side mirrors as a fixed mirror.Originally posted by sounakray View PostAgain some questions to veteran ZMR owners:

i don't fold them, if I do, they start behaving as a drunkard.. What you can do is, get a better gripped allen key bolt or a normal bolt (same size as the stock wala), heard it worked with someone here. Not sure whom! I am in the look out for the same setup. Damn, I keep forgetting.
now, regarding the vibrations/blur effect. At a particular point with the mirrors unfolded the images will be clear through out except at higher speeds, this is one reason I don't want to fold my side mirrors as I have found a hot spot, well the right one actually found the hot spot and the left one usually is out of position as someone likes to comb their hair with my side mirror so they keep changing the position.. Damn I hate those idiots.. only if I could catch them red handed
The recommended drain interval of AX7 is 2500 kms, however my suggestion would be to keep an eye on the color of the engine oil after 1750 kms. once it gets dark, change the oil. I don't think you want to risk screwing the engine just to save Rs.350 or Rs.365 (My Opinion) and the oil behaves different on every bike, the Rimula R4 I used on my bike had to be drained every 1200-1500 kms.. the oil turns completely black and yuck to seeOriginally posted by sounakray View Post2. nor the SVC guys recommended. in-fact, I never even knew it existed as I thought it was a paint (seemed to me that way)
i would recommend you get the O-Ring changed once every 2-3 drains.

1. RVM issue - Welcome to ZMR family.Originally posted by sounakray View PostAgain some questions to veteran ZMR owners:
Left one across all ZMRs in India has a mind of its own. I have replaced it once already for just this issue but the new one is no different. He he. 441 rupees wasted!
2. AX7 - Drain post 2.5k kms of use. So, you should get it replaced during servicing. (500 + 2500 = 3000)
3. Just ask for Karizma drain bolt O ring. Usually NOT available at the SVC, road side spares shops stock them!
P.S - Unicorn's O ring fits perfectly.
I replace them every time I drain the oil now, but till about 15k kms, I never replaced them. Stock one was good enough! I don't advice it, I was ignorant.

ZMRs are not alone. CBRs are here to give you company. Yes, my left mirror too has a mind of it's own - the stalk retains it's position but the mirror hangs its heads from the stalk. A bit of Fevi-Kwik and it will work fine for a few weeks. Repeat.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View Post1. RVM issue - Welcome to ZMR family.

Dude the stem is fine. Only the plastic end housing the mirror from the socket joint has gone mad. I have tightened the stem so hard that you need both hands to move it and it may break the fairing too.Originally posted by rreneav1987 View PostHehehe.. i guess i wasnt alone.. bwahahaha.. but hey @Divya Sharan try and rotate the mirror in a tightening position.. it worked on my old mirror.. it might work.. give it a try.. by the way.. the inside is more like a bolt so yes, it might tighten.. let me if it works

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
@sounakray as @rreneav1987 mentioned above you can try rotating the mirror clockwise which can fix the problem for time being, I've done that couple of times during last trip but as you ride more and more it seems like it has tendency to loosen up.Originally posted by sounakray View PostAgain some questions to veteran ZMR owners:

I'm pretty frustrated with them! Any solutions / alternatives / workaround will be really REALLY appreciated!
Is there any possibilities if we can try adding washer or rubber to make fairing vibrations lesser?
