Using Shell ax7 for over 5k kms now. Decent oil. Since I tour a lot, ax7 kind of makes more sense. If you ride normally, you can take it up to 3000 kms.

I have been using th AX7 since 16k K.M. Great oil, lasting of the oil depends on the weather condition... I got aximum life 2.8k an minimum 2.3k...

Feels great and the makes bike smooth even it's nearing a change... But not sure how will I continue as the oil dealer in West Bengal is no more...

Thinking to switch to Veedol Super Swift hear it's a better oil than AX7 but not checked personally....

I used Mobil1 10w40 FS initially. I must say, its the best oil for ZMR. Drain intervals between 4-4.5k kms.
But its very costly. ~1100 rupees per liter in BLR now.

Hence, I have decided to keep running the bike on mineral/refined mineral oils only.

You mean SS like the AX7 which you use right now?

I have a doubt, clocked 3.5k on ODO. Should I switch to SS oil now or do I wait for some more kms to add? The hero oil initially is smooth, but only for a short period.

Yes. Not SS per se, highly refined mineral you may say!

Keep your composure till 7-8k kms on the ODO. Drain the Hero oil post 1200-1500 kms.

Drain the hero oil post 1500 kms and then replace that with a... different mineral oil?

Nahi mere bhai. Use the same oil, but with drain intervals of 1.2-1.4k kms until you shift to AX7 or the likes.

No need. Get a #17 ring spanner/wrench and do it yourself. Say, you visit ASC every 2k kms, do the oil drain at 1k kms yourself!

                      All
I might buy a ZMR (a year old with 8000 Kms). The kid who owns it has skipped a couple of services and the bike is out of warranty. As I understand, all Hero bikes before Apr 2013 come with a standard 2-year warranty.

Why the ZMR? One of the cheapest FI bikes and I have no ambitions of riding fast or going on long trips. Carry kids and putter around the city.
With the current models having been discontinued and the new ZMR around the corner, I believe it doesn't make sense to buy a bike whose parts will be even harder to find even when out of production PLUS the fact that the even with 30% mark down the bike is OUT OF Warranty barely one year after its purchase.

Cost is a motivator, I am not going to get younger to ride the R15 of which there are many.

                      What do you guys think?

The bike is meant for sane riding with high fuel efficiency and can be enjoyed the most in its mid-rpm ranges. I guess your need matches here. When it comes to spare parts availability, it's not as bad as people think. Here in Bangalore, you have a main distributor in lalbhagh road who has stock of almost every part. And coming to bike being out of warranty, mine was out of it just after 2 months of purchase. Reason being, i gave it for service at a private mech cause the ASC guys suck big time.. And would suggest you too to do the same, now that the warranty is lost.

For this point alone, you'd be better off looking for a naked bike. Search for used duke 200 or 200ns. For highway runs, ZMR is awesome.

I thought the ZMR was a Unicorn++ with Fuel Injection and a fairing and city riding was its forte.
Curious why you'd recommend a KTM/NS? Plus the ZMR, I've been told, gives 42-45 if ridden below 50 kph.
I'd assumed you'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

I rode a neighbor's Duke for an hour. The engine was fuming like a furnace. I had ridden (test ride) a bullet earlier that day and it was easier finding neutral on the Bullets than the KTM.
How common is the issue of fairing rattle on the ZMR ?

If you have no idea of long trips then I doubt if you will enjoy this bike. ZMR is a bulky bike for pure city riding IMO.

This is how I have been carrying load on my ZMR off late. Guys do any mods for carrying stuff while touring?
