      12 liter? isn't it 8+2.5=10.5 liters?

This was my first interstate ride and also the only time I have completely filled up the tank to the brim. Whenever I filled up from 'almost *' reserve to to a tank full, All over Karnataka with the petrol prices hovering around 57/58 for unleaded, it took me approx petrol worth Rs.880/900(Approx 15.3/15.68(max) litres) for a tank up.

        Last weekend, while getting out on my ride to home from Pune to Nasik, I tanked up at Shell Pump at Kasarwadi (Pune) from a similar 'almost *' reserve to tank full(to the brim) and I could only fill petrol worth Rs.790(@Rs.58.45/litre) i.e. 13.5 litres for tank full.

        I hope people got my drift.

        Anyways, for a tank full, only 15.5 liters of petrol is needed if you are filling at a Shell Station i.e. Pay for 15.5 litres @Rs. 58.45(Shell normal) . However, 19/20 liters may be needed if filling at a PSU bunk like HPCL/BPCL/IOCL @57/58 i.e. pay for 19.x liters..

        * - 'almost' here means 30 km after low fuel light glows consistently, so 10 km remaining for reserve.

        P.S.: The figures were consistent for most bunks all over Karnataka, Kerela and Tamil Nadu. Which implies these bunks underfill/overcharge almost 20% each and every time. Just imagine they have been stealing Rs.10/12 per liter of fuel filled each and every time!
        Here is something I posted on the P220 ownership thread. I thought people should know about this, so posting here.
        Advice is a form of nostalgia.
        Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

          nice...so what is the rate/litre of petrol there? unleaded/speed/power...??
          A very good and safe biker not only because he can pop up either of the wheels,scrape his knees on a corner or go fast and make it look stylish but because he very well knows his limits and capabilities and has the patience to learn about others and ride safe ! :)

          • Hi guys,

            My friend got his black p135 yesterday.

            I am gonna sell my GS due to some mishap that happened last week and my parents have asked me to sell my GS

            I rode my friend's p135... It seems to be good.. But no way compared to the smoothness of my GS

            But I wanna go for a light weighted bike and also not a 150cc (a strict order by my parents)..

            So i might short list to p135... AaaRrrgghhhh Bajaj...I personally dont like the bajaj (Have seen many of my frnds who own a bajaj and speak about its downs everytime)..I need a bike immediately and they are the only people who are ready to deliver any bike within 2 days

              The Pulsar 135LS has got a few vibrations at certain RPM levels.. but its performance in between 70-95 kmph is something else for a sub 150 cc bike.

              If you are particular about "Smoothness", then better opt for the "O" Suzuki Slingshot . It less than 150 cc and will be should be available on demand.

                I fill it from Shell; I fill regular unleaded, no speed or premium. Rate is around 60 bucks a litre.

                  Theoretically, yes. In fact, when you allow the fuelling nozzle to be fully inserted into the tank while filling, it would fill only 8 litres - this is till the bottom of the tank's cylindrical orifice. However, if you remove the nozzle & fill it from top, the fuel will start to fill in the sides of the tank & up the cylindrical orifice (and that's an addl. 4 lit). Filling up to the former level is the 'recommended & safe limit' of tanking up, I guess.

                    But you have options in 125cc segment...

                    Yamaha SS125 - looks big for a 125cc, smooth, got good top end, but mileage could be around 50kmpl

                    Honda Stunner - looks awesome, can expect mileage of 55kmpl.. not so yummy in performance department.

                    by the way.. do you still have doubts on P135LS.. I don't see anyone complaining a lot on it, atleast in this ownership thread. And it's a good option to you.. coz, you don't feel like your bike is not at par with 150cc competition!! I mean it's not exactly a downgrade to you from GS150R!!

                      right...thats what i also used to do...but for me too it did NOT go upto 12ltrs...anyways nowadays i tank up only about 8.89ltrs for 500bucks above the reserve!

                        ya i did this too but the thing is ..........its not safe. in my case - the bike just went reserve coinsidentally when i reached the p..bunk so i thought of clearing my doubt wat exactly is the full tank capacity "after i read few posts i was confused whether it is (8 or 10.5 or 12) L .so i decided to go for the maximum i told the bunk wala to fill in exactly 10liters for 570Rs and the bunk wala was filling the last 500ml so carefully coz my tank was nearly gona over flow and by now u would have understood it yes it is 12.5L full tank. Then i had shut it and went back home but the road near my home is little bumpy suddenly i smelled petrol!!!!!! a yamaha rx100 passed by me gusseling smoke so i thought that was the smell factor.but again at a speed breaker it smelled again and it was stronger this time so i stopped to check and to my dismay it was my bike spitting fuel
                        there is an air hole at the top of the tank and it was the reason for the fuel leaking and god!!!..... this was there for quiet a while until the fuel level went down to about an inch and a half from the mouth .it took nearly 40km of travel for fuel leak to stop.At every bump it leaks like a child.
                        For my badluck i had travelled that 40km in all city traffic with speed breakers every now and then. so to all the light sporter's out there and nin my friend from my personal experience i suggest only 9L or at max9.5L above reserve........( he he and one more thing i have used all the smilies in this post ,this thought came to me only after i started to type this post) and note the point " I AM NOT TYRING TO BE CHILDISH IAM TRYING TO BE LITTLE HUMOROUS " enna raskalaa ....mind it

                          thats a common issue with all bikes filled to the brim...and we've had enough of discussions on the fuel tank capacity of the bike...so with a decent mileage for this bike...this shouldnt bother us at all

                            Ever since I bought the bike, I had filled the tank to the brim (well, not actually, as I stop when it reaches 12 lit on the indicator of the fuel pump, by when it is filled to about an inch or so from the tank mouth). And I tank up, as soon as I hit the reserve (within 20 km of hitting reserve). I haven't faced any such spillage issue - in fact, I rate this pulsar's tank sealing arrangement (gasket et al) to be quite good.

                            @anand - Maybe it was a one-off issue.

                            • and i would want to know how many people face this here ?

                              your fuel level is just above the reserve(but not in reserve) and you are continuosly doing a good 90-100kmph(on a straight road)...suddenly there's this loss of supply of fuel,bike giving normal jerks.....and you have to turn the cork up to reserve...again starting the fuel supply...bike running smoothly..

                              here mind you the bike is actually above the reserve level...when you pull over and tilt the bike a little or even lean towards your left while on the run...the bike does run with the fuel cork on 'ON'...

                              what i think is..is the partition in the fuel tank making the left and right sides of the tank too deep...??

                              i am still confused about the design of the fuel tank here !

                              • Touring on pulsar 135ls

                                hey friends iam getting an cocky idea i want to tour a 800km trip on p135ls with no breaks in between i guess that was too cocky may be with least breaks
                                has anyone tried this or ah................. even longer trip.
                                let me know your experience and tell me how i should get prepared for this coz this is my first.
                                iam planing to drive from coimbatore hmm...... to coimbatore starting with the palakkad via the costal kerala and through the thick forest of the charming eastern ghats towards the end of the trip and........ home("The manchester of south india")
                                and.....
                                This is my route:
                                1) Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu ----> 0km
                                2) Palakkad, Kerala -----------> 53.1km
                                3) Thrissur, Kerala ------------> 118.6km
                                4) chalakudi,Kerala ------------>149.8km
                                5) Vypin, Kerala --------------->190.5km

                                7) Kochi, Kerala --------------->225.6km
                                8) Cherthala, Kerala------------> 259km
                                9) Kottayam, Kerala ----------->290.3km
                                10) Kumily, Kerala (thekkady)---->398km
                                11) Munnar, Kerala -------------> 514km
                                12) Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu------> 618km
                                13) Palani, Tamil Nadu----------->685km
                                14) Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu ----->795km (home)

                                Totalling a huge almost 800km trip.
                                And the split up:

                                -------->50% through hills -401km
                                -------->30% through plains -240km
                                -------->20% through costal kerala -154km

                                And according to me i should be able to complete this in 16 hours at an average of 50km/hr but i like to red line when ever i get a chance so this time may even reduce.

                                so as iam a first timer, i would like some advice on this.

                                And iam planning to do it for this christmas

                                now u may ask y this christmas coz by then my 2nd service will be over and iam gona switch to motul fully synthetic.
                                But now it is runing on the junk oil from the service centre.
                                and it is pitch black already, has done only 1300k since it was changed for first service.and my bike has done 1900k now.
