hi guys, having completed 21k kms in my RTR160 , time has come to change the chain sprocket set, which i have to do withing next couple of thousand kms. I am thinking of going for the RTR180's set as i think its having a slightly taller gearing than 160. Does anyone know the correct front:rear sprocket ratio for both 160 and 180? Have anyone tried this before? if so, please give your reviews. will it affect performance or have any other problems?
About 6-8 months back, after somebody's review of changing to 14T in the front,(in this thread itself) i tried that too. Absolutely loved the taller gearing that gave , but it started to give some problems after some time. The top speed came down from some 120 to around 100 and less happy to rev higher , it was difficult to catch up with others during long drives. Also there was some problems with its eccentricity that the chain travel was uneven, hence during any hill climb, the chain tension decreases and started to give me problems. now i reverted back to stock 13T, but i got used to the taller gearing so much and love it. What shall i go for now?My New Blog : http://ridesaferidelong.blogspot.com/

Washing
After a very long time (read three weeks) i washed the bike.
I washed it with strong soap solution (engine and wheels section) and the colour of the side gearbox panel came completely off, so what i did was i sprayed high pressure water (2hp motor with nozzel fitted) and removed it completely.
Here circled in red)

Few more pics:
(excuse the bad pics, taken from mobile cam)

Guys, for the last 2 days my bike chain started making "tak tak " noise, Today when I went to service station for fixing it, they said the chain sprocket has become weak and needs to be replaced.
I wanted to know whether the chain sprocket will come under warranty.
Date of purchase :9/Feb/2009 -- Approx 15 months completed.
Kms covered : Approx 12,700kmAccidents hurt - safety doesn't

^^^^
A chain/sproaket kit lasts easily upto 25000-30000kms.
the sound may be cuz of the loose chain, hitting the front sproaket cover (did you checked the slackness by yourself??) or in really bad case, loose sproaket.
And like you said you have only completed 12700kms, you just cannot Fcuk the thing up, unless you rode it from day one without oiling/cleaning, and never cared to lend your eye to the condition of it and left it on the hands of the SC guys, cuz they never clean the chain, they just oil it, over to the dirt and all the shit collected in the rollers.
I think it's covered under warranty.The Magician"

Chain looks still new ,No sludge, rust or dirt is visible.Today they have adjusted the chain said it was too tight and said 2 pieces( not sure of the exact name) in the chain was bent . I asked them whether it needs to be changed they said it will be fine for another 5k kms. But still could feel some noise from the chain. May be need to run for some more km's to find out the how it behaves.Accidents hurt - safety doesn't

I am actually a bit busy now and hence did not reply to ur post even after seeing. Yes,my RTR now has a 180 sprocket configuration, but I did not even test ride it once after the change. I hence cannot give you a report. My bro is using it and he says the pickup has gone down a bit. It does not have the unintentional first gear wheelies now it seems. He though feels it a LOT better than the 14/44 config I tried earlier.Originally posted by VarunRTR View Posthi guys, having completed 21k kms in my RTR160 , time has come to change the chain sprocket set, which i have to do withing next couple of thousand kms. I came to the conclusion of using the 180's sprocket based on this: RTR 160 is 13/44 = 0.2954545454545455. Apache 160 is 13/43 = 0.3023255813953488. This was supposed to a better combo with a decent trade-off between pickup and top-end. This is non O-Ring chain though. So using it as an open chain will have problems. RTR 180 is 14/46= 0.3043478260869565. So loss will not be that great. And as this is O-Ring, the problems will also not be there.Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.

will i have to change to open chain cover when i put the o-ring of 180's? what are the problems with o-ring type compared to the other normal type apart from regular cleaning issue.?My New Blog : http://ridesaferidelong.blogspot.com/
