  • Here is the summary of the problems that my engine had.

    1) Piston rings had gone loose and teared a bit.
    2) The chain inside the engine was also gone ( Not that gone, but it was nearby to it).
    3) One of the rocker had completed his age.

So here goes the story about it.

After fitting the K & N R1100,my bike was overheating (coz i havent done the up jetting stuff). So the next day i took my bike to the MECH..bcoz it was overheating and performance had become very poor.

So the MECH advised me to have a engine work done, just because it was making some wierd noises. So based upon that i decided to get the engine work done to find out what exactly is the problem.

So the major challenge we faced here is to get P200 PISTON RING
rest of the parts i got easily...i cheked everywhere in western suburbs to get it,but no luck.

with old piston rings its giving superb feeling and performance.....but i am stilll looking for the new PISTON RINGS.

I enquired about it a lot...and finally ordered it at one of Autopart shop nearby at 500 bugs (orignal costs around 300 bugs).

Also the guy who did all this work advised me to run the bike at 50-55 for initial 1000K ...after maint work is done. Is this a relevant advice ??

Please provide your comments..i will post the pics of the autoparts which were replaced ASAP for reference.

Thanks a lot all of you..
    Your help is appreciated

        • hi guys, i am planning to buy a bike, and my options are - pulsar 200 and gs 150r (i know that both r of different class, but for me any of the above will do)..

pls tell me abt the cons of pulsar 200.People have been complaining about the quality of bajaj bikes, p 150 especially.

here are few questions on p200,

1.Is pulsar 200's quality good? (askin abt the new batches)
2.Does it need a lot of maintainance or spares after 1-2 years?
3.What about its vibrations and mileage?
4.For how many years will run properly if ridden properly?
          5.Is the bike reliable?

          eagerly w8in for ur answers,
          thank you

            thank you
I'll answer from a user's point of view.

            1. Is pulsar 200's quality good? (askin abt the new batches)
Yes they are. I have no complaints besides a few minor things which are easily "fixable".

            2. Does it need a lot of maintainance or spares after 1-2 years?
I've been using the P200 for 1 year, 1 month and 14 days now. Done 20,000 KMs. Nothing major whatsoever. But time to time servicing and oil change is a must. All I've changed till now are the rear tyre, the headlight bulb, the spark plugs, rear break liners. That's all I can recollect.

            3. What about its vibrations and mileage
Slight vibrations at the plastics over a period of time but nothing that a little double sided tape couldn't fix. As far as mileage goes it gives me around 40 in city. Haven't really bothered about the mileage on highway riding as usually it's at full throttle while touring.

            4. For how many years will run properly if ridden properly?

Difficult to answer that question, but I dont intend riding a P200 forever. Got high hopes

            5. Is the bike reliable?
Like mentioned above, 20000 KMs and no breakdowns, nothing. So yes I'd recommend the bike but then it all boils down to your style of riding, needs, wants etc.

Go ahead to the Bajaj, Yamaha, HH, Honda, TVS and Suzuki showrooms and test ride the bikes available. You just might find something really that appeals to you.

            Happy Hunting

              yes its good
2.Does it need a lot of maintainance or spares after 1-2 years?
I have been using for 1yr exact ..no huge maintenance
3.What about its vibrations and mileage?
Little vibrations on the footpegs on my bike...Mileage i was getting 38-40kmpl before after i changed to Osram NB and Avenger's heavier coil, i've been getting 36-37 so not much difference
4.For how many years will run properly if ridden properly?
Any well maintained bike will last longer but as said above i am not going to drive this bike for a long time
              5.Is the bike reliable?
              Yes, it is

                  1. Check the thearding of the front and the rear tyre (ask a good tyre shop to check it for you)
                  2. Check the rear shocks as one of them is a bit more softer than the other.
                  3. Check the cone set...this normally gives feeling that the handling is not right from the front.
                  4. Get the sprockets checked if it has more play than usual.
                  5. If all of the above dont work then get the Chassis checked.

                  thanks for your help Nirav.

Im thinking of selling her off now actually. Rather than have her taken apart and get things replaced without any guarantee of the problem being solved. I cant believe that the chassis too would have to be checked considering it was not a high speed fall at all

Good for your friends that they're getting mileage of 50 or 50+. It all depends on how you ride. I do a lot of shifting, revving and she returns back with around 40. I'm more than happy with that

Damage: I'm not sure. Wear and tear: definitely.

                        • We all have been watching new commercial of the launch of the Pulsar (Edition 2009). Yesterday, I was at the Bajaj Service Station and the new lot of Pulsar was there being unloaded from the Truck. I was desperate to see the new things they had introduced. And guess what, I was so upset to see the changes they had done to the Pulsars that I spelled many bad words to Bajaj. Who the hell is that person who brought this ridiculous idea to the Bajajs.

                          Here is what I noticed:

                          1. Now 150 will be having same Fibre Fairing that the 200 has.
                          2. Cheap kind of Logo Stickers looks like they have been purchased from a roadside vendor.
                          3. The 180 will look the same as 200. You can't make a difference between both of them.
                          4. And the 200 will look same to 220. (WTF).

Its really annoying for all those Pulsar 200/220 riders who feel like God while throttling their beast machines. Its an injustice to all of us.

I strongly condemned these changes. And I think it won't last long.

Dude this argument has been discussed to a very great extent in the '09 P180 thread, ensuing a lot of bad blood and battle, so let's not let that happen here as well, let's just stick with the 200 and it's owners as of now, and us existing owners of the 200 being pissed off with Bajaj making the 180 looking like a 200 is not going to be bother for the company, they are interested in new customers and in that sense it's a pretty slick move
I'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

So what you want to say is that you are neutral on this issue. And most importantly you are much more concerned about the company policies in renovating the stupid pulsar ideas. I think you should think again.

Today, when we ride P200, there atleast 5/10 people who do care what that bike its? They respect and dream to have one. But I tell you what the future is going to be. A guy who purchases P180 and you having P200 will not create any curiosity among the people. I know what people will think on this issue; "Am I going to show my bike to the crowd or just ride it to my satisfaction or for my passion?"

I know the machine itself speak its difference but what about something different. What about that Bajaj launched bike segment "PROBIKING". Yar, what will be the difference between a bike that comes out from a normal showroom and a PROBIKING showroom. And if still you think, the company is making it much more "sleek and stylish", I think you are wrong. They are just ruining the passion of being different.

                                Thanks. LOL
