If Anyone of you had face this problem, then can you comment if this just some loose wiring problem or the speedo meter has gone bad..??
    Is the tachometer working?

I don't think it is the speedo gone bad. Check for over-rev lights/low fuel sensor, if they are working. Does it do the self check when you switch the ignition on?

Speedo sensor cable might have gone bad. Or maybe a loose connection.

        Hi Pranay,

Not sure rest of the tacho stuff are working. What i can see that low fuel is working...yes it does the self check too. Odo and trip meter working.

Ya, i doubt its something to do with the cable. Will check the cable on my own once, else ..a ride to PBK

Ok yest, when i left office, the fluctuation was totally gone, and it was fixed to 0..and i noticed the Odo and trip meter where also not working/increasing. Not sure about the rpm needle but..but i saw it moving.
But after some ride of few Kms, the speedo started showing numbers correctly till i reached home.

Morning i checked the cable and connection, looks fine to me. Came back to office today..was working OK, untill i reach office and stopped by bike to park it..and saw that speedo is showing 68 and then back to 0 and then again fluctuating random numbers even when i am fully stopped.

I think you will have to visit PBK now.

Well looks like the worm (or the same digital equivalent) has gone for a toss, head to PBK they should be able to change it for you under warranty, they'll replace a small circular plastic part which sit's on the very centre of the wheel, from which speedo cable comes out. I've had to change it once, the speedo would show random numbers or predominantly zero. But the good news is the speedo/odo is the only thing that would be affected in this case, because the tacho, fuel gauge and warning lights all work independently.

A few things that you can do without meddling with the basic mechanics of your bike too much are...........

                  1. K&N with proper jetting

                  2. Iridium Plugs (It won't be obvious but does play it's role)

                  3. Properly designed end-can (This can be expensive and has to be mated with correct jetting).......................................... ................................

And the list goes on and on, if sky is your limit you can even put nitrous for your bike. But even with all these mods, your bike wont suddenly turn into some crotch rocket, you can maybe expect about 1~2 bhp increase at the maximum, and it all comes with their own set of problems and the bike is never going to be the same again. It's all psychological and doing all this will only make you feel as though your bike is faster but when it comes to figures there isn't going to be much of a difference

OKey...thanks for the info, Morning i went to a small a Bajaj service center near my area. He told me the same thing that the wire has gone...and replaced it with a new for the price of 345 bucks, the old cable smal circular part was totally worn out.

I asked him about the warranty, he said it doesn't come under warranty. Well my bike has completed 2+ years(Feb), according to the manual by bike warranty is finished. So i thought no need of going PBK and get it done here only?...Will PBK guys should have replaced it for free ?

                    • No chance. If it was a faulty meter itself then maybe. The wire is a part of wear and tear components. They wouldn't have replaced it for free.

Ya thats what i thought, one more thing i noticed that the new cable was a bit thicker than my old worn out one. I asked him about the life of this cable, he said...not fixed, it has some small magnets parts inside that circular disc which breaks off...slowly slowly.
May be now they have replaced the older cable with this new one in all new Pulsar's they are delivering.

                        Thanks Arjun and Diablo !!

                        • ^^ The worm has like four curved rectangular magnets like the one's you see in an D.C. motor, the worm calculates the the spin of the wheel between each magnet, the callibration had gone awry in mine and luckily it was within my warranty period so they changed with a new one. Also my fuel float had gone for a toss some months back, right now i know better than to trust anything that shows on the console, the tacho also has big discrepancies it shows bigger numbers for lesser distance i.e. 3** ms on an ZMA's odo is equivalent to 400ms in mine

Which probably means the P-200s are performing good.

                              • Well I had an accident 2 months back, since then the Silencer is a bit bent on the inside and makin weird metal-rattlin sound between 3-4k RPM. I showed it to a good mechanic, he said the Silencer needs to be replaced. Now, can i exchange it under warranty?? It hasn't affected the performance but I can't go beyond 120km/hr mark.. Earlier she use to end up on 128-132(on a good day) kmph.
