  • Fuel indicator reading and fuel flow problem

Hi, I have recently purchased a Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSI and have just crossed 100 kms on the odometer yesterday when I went on a ride within Mumbai. I faced some issue which has prompted me to ask this question. I have tried searching and found nothing.

I was riding my motorcycle with 2 bars of fuel with the fuel tap on 'ON' position for a few days. But yesterday with the same position the engine started running irregularly and loosing power while on highway. After 3-4 repeat occurrences, I switched the fuel tap to 'Reserve' and the bike ran without problems. Now this should mean that the fuel was not enough to be supplied through the main line. But the fuel meter still showed 2 bars. Later I refueled with around 3 liters and then the bike ran properly in 'ON' position. This confuses me because I had read somewhere on this forum that the fuel indicator shows how much fuel is available through the main line. And that when the bars fall to 0, the main supply is almost empty and then the reserve can be used. This is contradicting with my experience. Can anyone shed some light on the fuel indicator / meter reading and how many bars will it show if the main fuel portion is empty but the reserve fuel portion is full?

There is also a possibility that there was something else wrong with the bike which I was not aware of and it got resolved somehow on its own.

Note to moderators : I think putting all the issues, problems in the 'Pulsar 150 All Versions' thread in 'Motorcycle Ownership Experiences' section is not the best way to organize threads and posts. The better way would be that each problem should have its own thread within a sub-forum of a particular motorcycle. That way all the knowledge on a particular topic can stay together and not spread across thousands of posts and it also gives more exposure to a problem resulting a better chance of it getting resolved. Still if the moderators wish they can move this thread.

    A. Not wear and look cool but be stupid; or
    B. Wear it and look stupid but be smart.

You just ran out of petrol, switched to reserve and rode on. There is NO PROBLEM!

Most Pulsars hit reserve with two fuel bars still visible. But with Bajaj bikes i really don't bother what the fuel gauge shows, the tank has a reserve capacity, switch to it whenever your bike feels like it is running out of petrol. It feels like that because it is like that

Major problems, queries etc. get a new thread, but general everyday ownership stuff like what you have asked above gets merged into the ownership thread. A few threads unfortunately go 'dead' and sometimes queries remain unanswered or on 'too active' threads get lost in a blanket of other posts.

      Cheers

Did any one try to convert the disc to a drum brake set up?

Why would anybody do that, please do not consider such changes, it is always better to have better braking equipment on bikes than the old tech.
Having said that it is not impossible, you need to find a matching rim with same dimensions as the current rim and cables and levers needs to be changed, not entirely sure about the forks.

                • pulsar 150cc performance mod

i made below changes to my pulsar 150cc 2011 mfd.

                  *changed the exhaust
                  *applied k&n r-1100
                  》ordered 2 iridium spark plugs.
                  》ordered MSD ignition plugs.

when i throttle my bike it doesnt show much initial pickup it tends to stop a bit a start going again like hickup a bit.
people says need to re-jet the carb.
but my mech says the jet in 4-stroke is not numbers so we cant change it. if we change it takes more fuel and will damage the engine

any other good performance mod for it.
any good mechanic in and around hyderabad who does these type of mods perfectly.
                  Thnx in advnc

yesterday i changed bike's oil from shell petrol pump. i told them to fill the best oil for the bike.
they filled shell advanced ultra 100% synthetic, 10w40 oil.
my bike has clocked 21k kms and it is the first time i switched from bajaj 10000 oil.
so the shell advanced ultra, is it better than company recommended??
                    also, they charged me 780-/
                    did they overcharged me?
i have p150 ug 4 (bought in 2011, dual tone red and black)

                    • Analog meter to Digital

Is it possible to change the Analog meter to Digital one ?

                      Model: 2005 Pulsar 150 Kickstart

The reason is that my whole console went kaput last week and its difficult to source the old analogue console and both of them are of the same cost.

It can be but it would be very expensive. The digital meter might cost same as analog one, but consider two things to begin with. First the wiring would have to be modified extensively or changed completely to fit the digital meter. Second would be the speedo cable. Here again some modification would be required. I don't think all this would make for a very cost effective modification.

But if you still end up doing it please post details so that it can help others.

Thanks for your quick reply. I would then go with the analogue one.

Nothing much, the bike just needed some general servicing. Nothing more than that judging by the clips he sent me.

I am not sure about the price. But 20w50 is the recommended grade for pulsar. You can try using motul .
