  • Re: Pulser 150 ug3 headlight not turning off,cant selfstart,and idling issues

    Guys,
So the mech opened the engine up and said that certain parts are to be replaced namely
    1) Bore and piston
    2) Rocker arms
    3) Timing Chain
    4) Full Clutch assembly
    5) Coil and CDI
    6) Connecting Rod and engine bearings
    7) Valves
He is charging me 7000 overall for replacement and labor
I have attached the pictures of the parts that need replacement.

So is it a good deal or not?
    and this is in Bangalore.

And I am purchasing the engine oil separately. Click image for larger version

Is it possible to fit platina/ ct 100 shockers in the pulsar 150?

      • Stator plate heating

Recently the charging section of the regulator of my pulsar 150 UG3 got bad. The lighting section worked perfectly. Bought a new RR and installed it. The battery started to get charged, but the stator plate is heating. Earlier also when I connected the faulty RR, the stator plate got overheated. When the bad RR checked using DMM, shows AC Input (for charging-bl/w-bl/w) terminals short. The default RR is green colored and has 6 pins. I checked the lighting and charging voltage without RR, which turned out to be perfect and varying as per RPM. So what could be the problem? Short circuit? How to track it? As of now the current RR is unplugged to prevent it from getting short...kindly shower your ideas...

        • Leakage....

          Hey guys,
Hmmm,I own a pulsar 150ug4.5 model, currently running km28000+ which give me around 45to50kmperliter my driving style mostly aggressive but safe...wat happened was I started hearing tappet sounds like tic tic tic near bore,so I gave the bike to the venkatachalam motors service centre were I bought it.they changed many things like clutch assembly, timing chain, rear sprocket assembly, disk pads, tappet covers, rear break pads and other minor things like oil change etc...after one week the same sound started again and oil leakage near to one of the tappet covers.....so I contacted the mechanic again and he said that the engine bore is letting the oil through it to the top,so that I have replace my bore soon, but he stopped the oil leakage by adding some kinda glue in the tappet cover....my question is should I really change the bore like he said....

IMO the mechanic has messed up your bike....tick-tick sound should have been sorted by merely adjusting the tappets....Changing tappet cover improperly has caused oil leakage problem....The mech. is surely taking you for a ride...bad bore-piston will allow oil to enter combustion chamber which leads to white smoke from exhaust.....engine oil is also used to cool the valves and AFAIK oil is also circulated in the upper part of head cover to lube cam....just tell the mechanic to adjust the tappets properly using filler gauge and use the old tappet covers....you better change the O ring of the tappet covers and head cylinder gaskets (if oil leaking from head-cylinder joint though it appears to be leaking through exhaust tappet cap from the above pic)...

Bit late, but I have recently bought P150 Classic (with round headlamp & kick start ) I am facing Carb issue, so was going by this thread and was trying to find some clue. The Issue, which I am facing is unstable idle. I have shown to couple of local mechanics, but they are just saying me that Card has failed. Now I am wondering that, how a Carb can fail

First clean the air filter and retune the carb....if the problem remains then its time to clean the carb......is the idle unstable when the engine cold? report after doing these...

I have cleaned the Air Filter as mentioned and also retuned the Card, but still the issue is same, even after running engine for 15-20 minutes. Also the fuel economy is around 25 KM/L. I was having doubt on engine itself, but the strange thing is that the machines powers up in just single kick in morning. Last month the engine was open when the Kick Spring got changed, at that time got a chance to see inside the engine and eveything was looking to fine. Now since the engine was mounted again, there is no oil lick, all hose pipes are replaced and secured by fasteners, so no air leak, even Card was open and Diagraph seems to be fine, all jets are clean and not clogged. Also air screw seems to bit worn out as was able to see black lines on edge of the screw.

The problem is that when the engine is running below 2K rpm, it is not stable, but when it crosses above 2K rpm, then the needle stabilized like charm.

buddy erratic idle is generally caused by lean mixture at idle due to air leak in intake or blogged idle jet.....double check the fasteners of the clamps of intake manifold......get the tappets set....improper tappets setting causes the engine to halt during idle (cold start) as the engine warms the prob. vanishes and also low mileage.....check drive chain for over-tightening and front wheel for free rotation...

I have owned this model. Wonderful ride
                      Brings back lot of memories.

BTW check for air leaks in and around carb hoses, exhaust bend and AF box as well.

Bingo! I found it, my AF box is broken and there is gap between it's cover and also AF is not properly inserted. Even the air is linking from AF box to Carb. Whenever I start in morning, I hear sound which is like cracker bursts whenever I kick bit hard. So this Sunday, once again I am going to be busy

Glad you found it! The mending of broken box can be taken care. Could be fun. But look out for replacement if it is way too damaged.
Replace filter and hoses too if necessary. It becomes hard over time.

The ignition coil winding generates a whooping 190-200+ volts of AC when revved, though with low amperage.. I have checked with DMM..!!! this means the guage of that coil is very very thin and we cant wind as accurate as the company did... Also the outcome may not match with the original coil and also life of CDI will be a question...!! The CDI of pulsar (AFAIK) is very very sensitive to voltage fluctuations as well as weather conditions(wet)..!!!

It will be better that you purchase new stator coil..!!!

When I gave to bajaj asc they checked it and told its due to petrol problem due to which float is not able to work properly and leaking petrol. It doesn't leak petrol when the bike is on or running but when kept off with petrol knob in on or reserve with bike on side stand. I need ur help guys
