and regarding the sprockets , the default sprocket size is -- front=15t(15 teeth) and rear=37t

    Useful fact about sprockets
    1. Bigger rear sprocket or smaller front sprocket, results in gearing biased towards acceleration, with some lag in top speed.

Changing sprocket won't make a world of a difference, so I'll pass on that. Planning to upgrade to a bigger one and trying to keep it below 1L. Lets see if I can do that.

Hey guys, I am looking to get a 150cc bike somewhere in March. My heart beats for Pulsar 150 but considering its a reasonably old platform which other bikes you asPulsar owners suggest? Will be a daily commuter and 400-500km rides 4 times a year. Ill prefer better acceleration rather than top speed. Any suggestions? under 80K on road. Thanks in advance and enjoy the Pulsar
Hello Akshay. I see that you have joined in recently and this is your first post. Welcome to XBHP.
Now, coming to getting a new stead, 150cc, I wouldn't say P150 is bad. Its at par with the other 150cc bikes currently on Indian roads. The thing is, it has become kind of old now and way too common. You have other choices too in the market like Honda Unicorn, Yamaha FZ/FZ-16/FZ-S, Suzuki GS150R, HMC Hunk and CBZ-Xtreme and TVS Apache RTR160. The best of the lot is Unicorn although that too is a very dated bike.

Acceleration winner here is FZ. That is one small, light weight, best handling bike. If you are looking for a touring type of bike then I will suggest Suzuki GS150R. That is one hell of a tourer with an additional 6th cog to get you cruising. You can use the 4th and 5th gear in city rides too.

Coming to your choice of Pulsar 150, if you are really happy about it, then close your eyes and get it. There is nothing that can replace the heart's choice.

Also, it would be nice if you can give an introduction of yourself here. Will help others know you and you knowing them better.

great advice. But i think in case of acceleration u forgot apache,.,. That deserves the quickest title.

That TVS engine is a peppy teen's motor, its like it is high on hormones. But its the awkward riding posture and vibrations that kills the fun, well, at least for me. FZ indeed pulls strong, real strong for a regular 150cc bike, you just need to know the bike. I still didn't get whether it was your heart's decision or mind's.

well my heart still is with my bike,, but my mind goes with apache coz when somebody talks about acceleration, he doesnt mean for comfort,, he just wants the performance(drag races), so i ll still be with my choice...

          • Mates, its been ages since we had put up our thoughts on our baby ride. I was away from my Baby for like 8 days and it was a really painful time, all I wanted is to get back to Hyd, pack my bike and transport it to my hometown, which I am planning to do next time I am headed home.

On a different note, what tyres are you all running? MRFs or TVS Sri Chakras? Anyone has tubeless setup on his ride? Need information about it. Also, is it feasible to run a tube type tyre as tubeless? I have been suggested this by fellow riders but I am not sure if the tyre wall will hold up good.

Seriously? I too have MRF Zappers (Factory fitted) but those are tbe type. Can I change those to tubeless? Will they work fine? I am not bothering about life since I have been planning to upgrade to tubeless since ages as I tour alone whenever I do. So if by converting them to tubeless they run another 5K kms, I am fine with it.

                • Update:

                  KMs done : 8225
Engine oil : BP MAK 4T NXT (882 kms on this oil)
                  Fuel : Full tank yesterday with Shell Unleaded @ 74.20/L, 12.34 L.

Yesterday my Casstiel did surprise me with the abilities. Firstly, I was way above the reserve mark, actually my Reserve blinking red light too didn't come up on the console like it does after going below 3.2L. It drank 12.34L yesterday, so it crossed the 15L capacity as told by Bajaj.
Shell offers free air filling and oil change(you need to buy it, no labour charge). I asked the guy to make the front - 28psi(instead of 25psi as written on the swingarm) and rear 32 psi. I was astonished to find that the front was 35psi and rear was 38psi. I was like "What The". I know I did around 15kms to go to the petrol station, but it was cool and I didn't do high speed run so that eliminates the possibility of high temp of air inside the tube. I guess the tools are not caliberated with the local mechanics and air filling road side shops.

After the change in tyre pressure, the ride is more stable and assuring even with 15+ kilos of fuel onboard. There is some weird chain noise with either the timing chain or the drive chain either too loose or too tight. Need to get my second paid service done, but actually trying to avoid it getting done by SVC. No other options of any good local mechanic. A quick look at tappets too is required.

Planning to hit National Highway 7, Hyderabad to Nagpur road and planning to clock ~300-400 kms.

Yaa bro you can make those tyres to tubeless. The only requirement for this so called jugaad is ""your rim should be alloy type. but I would suggest you to completly upgrade your Rear Tyre atleast. Go for 120/80 MRF Zapper(P180 stock tyre).

Hello mate. Is the oil leaking from the bolt area only or from any other spot too? Have you tried wiping it off and checking if it still leaks? Also, which oil are you using? I guess the drain bolt is available in the service center, you should be able to get it easily. My suggestion, replace it.

hello akash , yes bolt area is the problem for sure . i have checked with a new bolt too . the bolt was rotating continuoulsly , it dint fit , guess you got it . i am using Motul 300v FS .. some members advised me to do lathe works in Engine Oil thread . Gonna do that for making new threads in that case . that would be the permanent solution i hope .

Hello mate, any news on the drain bolt problem? Did the lathe work, work?

Had a ride for about 130 kms, two P150s, UG2 and UG4.5(mine). UG2 has got some real good low and mid range. It takes time to reach 100 though. 105 comes at 9K RPM, redline.
The astonishing part was, I struggled to cross 100 and then the max I saw was 110.
Recently did the 2nd paid servicing, and I swear, screw warranty. I am going for outside mechanic. Oil has done ~1300 kms, brakes are not engaging-wheels are freely rotating, Air filter and spark plugs are cleaned. Didn't had more than 8L of fuel onboard, it was not windy. I had already touched 117,119 and 123 speedo indictaed in the past. Today, it was struggling to cross 8.2K RPM or 110KMPH. :'(
                            Signs of aging this soon?
                            Regards,

If the threads on body of gearbox have worn out, lathe work is the only option. Buying a new casing will be very costly.
