spark plugs have started showing signs of lean mixture and engine has started to heat, because, by design, pulsars are lean burn engine. they are designed to burn lean mixture, and that is why they run hotter than other bikes.

leak in intake manifold will create a phat phat kind of sound, something like when you have leaking silencer, not exactly same, but somewhat similar. basically your engine will sound different.Originally posted by art View Post

got couple of misfires today...checked the cock, there was some water....drained some fuel and the carb....will clean the tank on sunday and see if it cures the prob. if not then will dismantle the carb and check for clogging...
One more question...how to check for healthy spark??? Is the old method of removing the plugs and cranking will serve my purpose? Will this method help me to check spark of the right side plug? AFAIK the left side plug works between 350-9000RPM whereas the Right side plug works around 750-6000RPM. Can 750RPM be attained while cranking???

Today I cleaned the fuel tank myself....was really tough to take all the fluid...after taking the pet cock it got somewhat easy....was shocked to see around 1 litre of water and mud like thing(may be rust). the fuel cock stainer was clean...after fitting and draining the carb started the bike...the idle has become constant....as the engine was still hot due to long ride....so i will recheck it in the morning...

Have recently got my baby refurbished. A new paint job, michelin sirrac for rear the good old zappers ahead, carb of 200, new headlights.
Took her to malshej over the last weekend and boy she responded fine.
Have been facing some battery issue for quite a few times but its more to do with electricals which eventually screw the battery also. attaching a few pics.

Hi everybody,
I own a Pulsar 150 DTSI purchased in 2006 and completed 45000 KMS.
When i switch on the head light of my bike, automatically after some time the light gets off but in between when i ride from some holes or when i feel bump on the road the headlight again gets on .
Due to this i am facing a problem when i am riding in Night.
Kindly help me out where the problem or is it due to some connection problem and how can it be solved ?

Hello xBHP fans, this is probably my 1st post since my joining date 2009
. I owe Pulsar 150 DTSi 2003 model(the 1st DTSi model). Now it's tank has caught rust and caused fuel leakage, I had took it local garage and got it M-sealed. Soon I am going to buy a new fuel tank for my Pulsar. Before buying I would like to know if is possible to fit the fuel tank of New pulsar 200ns??

I don't think it will be a proper fit. You can however get the new tank with the air scoop thingy like in the new UG 4.5 versions. Even if the P200NS' tank fits exactly at the same position, it will look seriously out of proportion. Reason being P200NS' tank is HUGE, real HUGE.Originally posted by GRV View PostHello xBHP fans, this is probably my 1st post since my joining date 2009

Considering that a bigger carb can be fitted, how well does it cope with the engine? I mean, P200 carb on a P150 should make it run hotter/rich, right? Bigger carb = more fuel. Is it a 'plonk-in, use-it' thingy or does it require something more to be done? What difference have you noticed with the bigger carb?Originally posted by Nirvana View PostHave recently got my baby refurbished. update from my bike's problem- After tuning several times, fuel tank and carb cleaning, checking fuel lines for blockage and spark check, I was left with the option of timing checkup...While checking the tappets, the tappet of intake valve was found too tight, so got it set and the problem vanished..... The problem had arosen after the tuning so it was misleading....my bike has covered 28k, thinking of getting the valves, valves' seals (checked) changed. what things need to be changed apart from the valves??? kindly suggest...

go for valve set , rocker , rocker bearings , tappet , springs all things under the head just above cylinder block . All movable parts should not have an plays like in bearings, tappets arms etc . Also check the head health as the labour is the same for touching the head . Also De-carbonise the cylinder head .Originally posted by art View Postupdate from my bike's problem- After tuning several times, fuel tank and carb cleaning, checking fuel lines for blockage and spark check, I was left with the option of timing checkup...While checking the tappets, the tappet of intake valve was found too tight, so got it set and the problem vanished..... Also remember an ol saying "Why change,if aint broken " that goes well with Pulsars too . If you have no problems , no need to do valve operations ...

@rpmboy- thanks buddy for your suggestions....The bike is running perfectly except some oil consumption at high RPM...ironically no smoke at all...After hearing engine sound the svc guys suggested to change the intake valve....So work to be done- replace damaged parts in the head, decarbonising the chamber, check the rings and bore for signs of seizures....One more theory for oil consumption as suggested by the other mechanic (svc) is that oil is evaporating due to overheating clutch plates (still the stock).....but i never found the engine overheating except on lean mixture....the clutch plates are still doing good with healthy top-end and no slippage....Can this be a valid reason for oil consumption??? I use castrol power1 under 2000kms....

So , that's the cause , Castrol Power 1 , please change your engine oil to Mineral ASAP . Power 1 is not required in Pulsar's 150 , I have seen most of the riders who had P150 switch back to normal . Best Oil for Pulsar 150 is SERVO 20W40,VALVOLINE 20W40, ELF Moto4 Gold 20W50 or Motul 20W50(if u can find) , as per my experiences with Power 1 was not that good causing same kinda issues strange noises, heating , oil density loss .Originally posted by art View Post@rpmboy- thanks buddy for your suggestions....The bike is running perfectly except some oil consumption at high RPM...ironically no smoke at all...After hearing engine sound the svc guys suggested to change the intake valve....So work to be done- replace damaged parts in the head, decarbonising the chamber, check the rings and bore for signs of seizures....One more theory for oil consumption as suggested by the other mechanic (svc) is that oil is evaporating due to overheating clutch plates (still the stock).....but i never found the engine overheating except on lean mixture....the clutch plates are still doing good with healthy top-end and no slippage....Can this be a valid reason for oil consumption??? Stick to stock & you will be rewarded, trust me , I have been riding my Pulsar since 2004 ."BiKiNg in INDIA is like JOGGING in IRAQ ,something may HIT YOU"

even myself using it since last 4 years....I get it from the local castrol dealerOriginally posted by princesirohi View Postcastrol power1 is perfectly fine for p150, i am using it for ages.
the thing is you should get original one.
@rpmboy- this time i have already bought one unit of power1....next time i shall try maybe valvoline...even then i think my bike has done enough kms to get the head checked and chamber decarbonised. Isn't it?
wow! xbhp now has 'like' button...liked the 'like' button...was really needed...thanks moderator

, but the engine is heating. So can i narrow down my troubleshoot to fuel system ie carb as the pet cock is fine?
