i own a p150 ug 4 , recently i am hearing a weird sound like " DUM " ( very loud ) often from the Engine when i start the bike by self starter
. whenever this sound comes the starter doesn't work then i have to use the kicker ( thank God ) . this sound never comes when i use kicker and everything is fine . sometimes the starter works fine and when the engine is hot it is not at all working
... What might be the problem ???
Gurus pls suggest ....
Its common , mostly happens when the bike is cold . And the thud sound is common to all Pulsar engines ...not to worry . Max to max , check for the points in starter motor , they may be worn out, very economical to replace if gone wrong , recomended to be changed if the bike is not cranking with self even when the bike is hot .
The thus sound is from worn-out suspension ,take ur bike to any shocker mechanic as him to do the job, easy & economical . Or you can buy new pair of shockers .Originally posted by kksin123 View Posthi guys,
i currently own pulsar 150 2005 model ..mileage is 47800km.
having some problem due to small accident. to avoid a pothole. the bike had a fall and some scratches on bike and on myself.
the rear is giving a thud sound when i move on a pothole or a speed breaker only when i ride with a pillion. also the grip on tires is not good. should i change the tires.
kindly reply.
If you think the tyre is gone bald , change then with new ones , with Zapper's , as they came as stock bike ."BiKiNg in INDIA is like JOGGING in IRAQ ,something may HIT YOU"

I am new to xBhp
. I would like to share my experience with my Pulsar 150. I had her in 19.02.2002. Just entered a Automotive company as an engineer. She was my dream bike. She was an silver angel
. I had waited for almost 6 months closely watch the reviews of the then newly released pulsar. I had an 1966 Military owned modified 350CC bullet. It was a gem but did not quench my thirst for acceleration
. Then came the day I got my silver beast(to me). I was extremely passionate about bikes from my childhood.
My father had an Royal Enfield explorer. I learned to ride on it and since then I was into bikes.
I had clocked about 1,67,000 kms in 8 years. I kept her in mint condition changed her Oil every 2000 kms and she was the best companion. I had to travel about 45 kms(to & fro) for work in chennai. I had a lot of cops trying to stop me for speeding
. I had clocked about 105kms as per speed-o-meter. Due to my weight that's the best she gave
. Anyway I had to part with her due to many reasons
. But I will never forget the times we had together. I am sad in a way to see that the new Pulsar with DTSI has not performed as good as it old mate
. Hope bajaj will improve in its engines
.

Hi guys! Recently my pulsy ug3 developed new problem....I got the carb tuned as it was not giving proper mileage.....Ironically the mechanic turned A/F screw to 5 turns from 2.5...After the tuning done bike stalls during cold start and i need to blip the throttle a bit to keep the bike running....when the engine is hot the problem vanishes.....But the problem resurfaces once the engine is cold....got the carb cleaned...problem remained...got the tuning done several times by SVC guy...the problem is still there...mixture is not lean as checked by the colour of the plugs...help needed to sort this out..how to check any air leak? should I get the tappets reset???
waiting eagerly for your reply..

As you said the Fuel screw is 5 turns , so the bike is starving of fuel , the mechanic has forgotten to adjust the AIR screw accordingly(vertical one with big head) .
Do not open Carb on to often , it unsettles everything, according to rising conditions, carb wash may be carried every 5k kms depending on dusty, rainny etc.
A good mechanic should have solved the problem with ease , in one go . Next time u take ur bike for tuning make sure it is already run for 15-20 mins already . Do not tune when cold or just after starting .
I think it will help you .

Changed both the plugs today, the problem remains there.....can clutch cause this problem as mine is in the final days of its lifespan( almost 27k kms stock clutch) and idle takes couple of seconds to settle after a rideOriginally posted by rpmboy View PostAs you said the Fuel screw is 5 turns , so the bike is starving of fuel ,the mechanic has forgotten to adjust the AIR screw accordingly(vertical one with big head) .
5 turns is actually on richer side...do we have an adjustable air screw in pulsar carb if so where is it?

carbs opened for first time in 27k kms

Yeah the engine was hot while tuning
I think it will help you .

dear can you elaborate what can be the problem in carb??? earlier several times i d tuned the AFR 5 turns but no problem then....is the pilot jet still clogged??? there was some brownish mud type accumulation in the float bowl when it was cleaned....i also learnt that some vacuum leak near intake manifold also causes erratic idle???how to check that leak???Originally posted by princesirohi View Postuneven idling is a sign of either a rich mixture or problem in carb.

YOu can try this yourself, if you know Air and fuel screw, When the engine is hot, increase the RPM to 5, check on the meter, then close your fuel screw completely, the bike will not shut down, engine will get slower so you will come to know when you are turning the screw. Then after closing the screw, open it to 3 or 3.5 turns, then bring down the RPM to 1.5 on the meter, the needle should be stable, then is proper. The turns can be anywhere between 3 to 4 turns. it is a trial n error method, but normally 3.5 does the job. i also have P150 DTSi 2005, and have done this tuning myself and has worked for me. i still get above 45KMPL having done 65000+ kms on the bike. I have a mix ride so 45+ kmpl is good for me. once i tried riding between 40-70kmph speed without any sudden rise in speed i got 53kmpl. So it is too good for me. TRY IT YOURSELF NO HARM IS IT.
ENJOY THE BIKE and RIDE.

@rakowli- thanks buddy on the tuning part..occasionally i tune it myself richen it when with pillion while on solo revert it back..yesterday got it tuned once again at SVC...They turned AFC to 4.5 turns, the problem is still there. But now the engine is heating and the plugs have started showing signs of lean mixture. AFAIK 4.5 turns is on richer side
, but the engine is heating. So can i narrow down my troubleshoot to fuel system ie carb as the pet cock is fine?
