So that means i need to overgear more than what i'm having now (14/38) the next time?
    For example:
Pulsar 220 DTS Fi (old model) 14/37
    or
Pulsar 220 DTSi 14/36 to have much better overgearing? :-? :-/

Do we get only the rear sprocket separately for purchase?

Umm, we get the full chain-set(sprocket+chain) for around 1200-1400 and that's for the P220. Overgearing will lead to lack of initial acceleration, but your top speed and cruising ability will increase substantially. I am still not sure if I want to overgear, but I can try it if I can't upgrade from my P150.

Acceleration lost is not much bro, i usually rev hard in every gear so i dont feel that much of a problem. the vibes have reduced considerably from earlier setup. Just what i wanted.
yes akash i know that and that's the exact reason why i asked if we get the sprockets separately. Now i'll have to wait till the end of life of this chain
Are you planning to upgrade from your P150? If yes, which bike?
Whats the teeth ratio of your bike? Is it not 15/44?

Maruti Ertiga overtook a bus on a blind curve. left curve for car and bus, a no overtaking zone, continuous white line marked....car overtook leaving no space for the bike from opposite direction.
Dad always rides in low revs;had almost stopped...head to head collision...it is assumed that he was thrown off the bike and landed on his right side.
With big fight at home i had managed to make him use basic safety gears ( helmet & wind protection jacket) at the least. 3 years back he had given only Rs2000 for the helmet. I bought one for RS 4000 from bangalore METRO. Helmet did its job. even though the car was at around 60kms (at max), he was below 30 kms for sure (from his remarks,he was almost at halt).
He underwent 2 surgeries, one at right hip ( doctors explained about nailing process, rod into femur bone), second at right wrist (some plates and screws). another surgery needed on left knee (some implants) after a month.
Life is just out of normal. What to say....bike is a total loss. Ertiga didnt stop after the crash, people suspect driver slept off. Car ran over the bike and came to a halt by itself with no brake input from the driver. May be panic, eye fixation, freezing, sleep, fatigue ( doing a long drive ) are reasons for no brake input. But only he knows what made him overtake at a no overtaking blind turn!! check my earlier posts of bike (the way it was maintained and pics as of now). completely ripped off.
Have to intimate insurance guys and process documents.. My Dad was trying to arrange funds to get a MBBS seat for sis in bangalore. Anyway she has got a seat in BDS through entrance.

no ride..almost 3 months without a bike...just cannot describe my feelings...only a true rider can understand the loss of a ride... no job too.... completely sucking life....just want this time to pass fast...damn.....
waiting for sanction letter from insurance office. only then i can sell the scraped bike.. insurance would give Rs.15000..by selling something more..dad on feet..recovering well..business down... really bad time..
girl friend dumped me saying that i have achieved nothing yet..hope to get a job soon..damn..

I am confused on "which bike".
Its P220 vs R15 V2 vs CBR150R/250R with 45-45% to both P220 and R15. CBR is like a backup plan of upgrade, yes I do have backup plan of upgrade. I haven't checked the ratio, need to open my chain cover and check. Most likely it is 15/44(46).

Its just a hard time mate. Things will go better. Its nice to hear that your dad is recovering well. Hope for the best mate, keep fighting, work harder and take care.
            Most importantly, keep smiling.

Question: My bike stutters and feels like switching off, kind of knocking, but not exactly, if I take off below 10 KMPH everytime. It is a momentary behaviour and once it gains speed, everything looks good. I prefer to ride smooth and don't go to 1st gear that often in traffic because I feel it to be too short. Is it normal that my P150 behaves this way? Spark plugs should be fine, but I need to check it. It would be nice if someone can clear it up for me if this is symptom of lean or rich or normal mixture. Also, I hear some noise somewhere near the engine/front sprocket as if the chain is loose or the sprocket/timing chain is loose. Its not that smooth sound to hear. The baby rides smooth, except that noise which gets prominent as the speed increases.

                thanks...
in my view check out the air fuel ratio.. and the most important thing regarding pulsar 150, check its chain tension..use castrol grease instead of lube oil. grease got low life but performs wonder. also your front sprocket should have good life to avoid such sounds. so AF ratio, chain tension and lubrication, front sprocket.....should solve this problem bro....

It funny and interesting with my Casstiel. Whenever I lube the chain with sparsely used engine oil, the sound vanishes and then crops up again after say 100-150 kms. I guess I need to visit the service center to get the chain a bit loosened up. I feel its way too tight now. Will ask them to perform CO test to check the air-fuel ratio too. Will take it tomorrow or next week Tuesday. Update will follow in some time.

Lets make this thread LIVE again. It feels dead as of now.

                  • Hey everyone in this thread,,
I am new to this thread and hope that i will also contribute to the discussions carried out under this thread.
Guyz, I am also a proud owner of p150 UG4.5. I purchased my baby beast in May,2011. Till now i have clocked >10000kmz out of which maximum kmz were counted on trips to hill stations
The most attracting feature of this bike is that it is suitable for every age group unlike cbr,r15,apache.
after purchasing my bike i made some not so catchy and descent changes,,
                    1.Blackcat Remote Locking(useless)
                    2.Removed Saree Guard(Definitely Male B) )
                    3.Changed GrabTrails to p220 stock(original)
                    4.TankPad

I am planning to go for stock KN filters. Are they useful??

the air fuel ratio has been disturbed,, My bike also faced such type of problem, Just adjust the carburetor screw and get rid of this problem.

speed thrills, but if taken casually, it kills....

always have a backup plan while driving.

Ours is a power commuter mate, plonking in a K&N is not advised. It does give you better sound but in long run, it eventually damages the engine because it allows more air, not very effective in cleaning out before feeding it to the engine. Dirty air will pass in to your engine and this is not a good thing to happen. Stick to the stock air filter or try to source in a paper filter if you can get in the same size/dimension.

On the other note, can someone please tell me what is the stock sprocket spec of P 150 UG 4.5? Its 15T front, not sure about the rear. Office is holding me back from SVC and further investigation with my trusted SVC mechanics. It was they who told me to get P180 sprocket set and P220 all black grab-rails which I haven't done till date.

Akash i have been using K&N BA-2201 for quite some time now don't remember the exact number of kms done though. Its easily more than 30-35k+ i can tell. I dont have any problem whatsoever in my bike.
I would personally stay far far away from universal conical air filters. The problems you mentioned mostly show up with that kind of setup. My K&N installs right into the stock AF box and no mods required.

For sprocket size even i'm waiting for you to let me know those sizes just for my comparison. Go to a mech or much better, open it on your own and check it bro.
Once you take off the chain cover of your bike you'll find that written on your rear sprocket "XXT" Just carefully observe as you rotate the wheel and let us know.

K&N does give us an option of stock spec air filter, I was just carried away with the stories circulating on World Wide Web about the ill-effects of K&N. It does require you to calibrate the carb to feed in more fuel otherwise it will overheat due to lean mixture. I don't have the right tools to open that bugger chain cover, will go to my trusted SVC tomorrow to get the sprocket-chain setup checked. Also, I might try to get in the P220 grab rails. I have a long list of things I want to ask them, including exchange offer.

Will update here with price of Sprocket of P220, P200 and P180, SVC recommendation on sprocket-chain replacement.

I have some questions here if someone can answer them:

                          1. Anyone tried switching to tubeless tyres? Which brand, size for front and price.
                          2. Engine oil - I am using BP MAK 4T NXT as of now, drain interval is ~2000 kms.
                          3. Headlight and Pilot Lamps - my stocks perform good, but at times feel inadequate. Pilots have gone yellowish.
                          4. Sprocket change - requirement is less RPM at higher speeds.

Doesn't your stock setup have tubelss tyres?
I have a stock tube setup at the front and the rear is a stock size 100/90 tubelss but it has a tube inside. :-p
                            2. Engine oil - I am using BP MAK 4T NXT as of now, drain interval is ~2000 kms.
I use Elf Moto4 semi synthetic oil and i'm quite happy with the way it works.
This costs 240bucks and its good value for money according to me.
I usually need to top up my engine oil so
i cant tell you my exact drain interval. I usually replace when i feel the ride becomes harsh. Usually a month and a half usage i can say.
For me that's close to 2000km or 2500km
                            3. Headlight and Pilot Lamps - my stocks perform good, but at times feel inadequate. Pilots have gone yellowish.
No idea mate. Even i feel the same inadequacy of lights but i dont use it a lot at nights so that's ok for me. Maybe other members can help you with this.
                            4. Sprocket change - requirement is less RPM at higher speeds.
I think if acceleration is not your major concern you can switch to P220 sprocket size 14/36(37).
With my experience of P200 14/38 setup (Rs 1400), i dont think the ride overgears a lot with it. That's why i recommend the P220.
(Please keep in mind that if you have a habit of shifting each gear at 4k RPM itself, you'll feel that the ride takes some time to reach even 60kmph)
But believe me it feels really smooth at cruising speeds compared to stock setup.

                            • ohkk.. than ks for advice..
and regarding the sprockets , the default sprocket size is -- front=15t(15 teeth) and rear=37t

                              Useful fact about sprockets
                              1. Bigger rear sprocket or smaller front sprocket, results in gearing biased towards acceleration, with some lag in top speed.
                              2. Smaller rear sprocket or bigger front sprocket, results in gearing biased towards top speed, with some lag in acceleration.
speed thrills, but if taken casually, it kills....

                              • Hey guys, I am looking to get a 150cc bike somewhere in March. My heart beats for Pulsar 150 but considering its a reasonably old platform which other bikes you as Pulsar owners suggest? Will be a daily commuter and 400-500km rides 4 times a year. Ill prefer better acceleration rather than top speed. Any suggestions? under 80K on road. Thanks in advance and enjoy the Pulsar
