If you had set your mind for pulsar then atleast go for P180, it has more power with big bike feel. The problem with P150 is you will get bored of it soon, feel underpowered. Atleast I did!
I felt the same and still feeling the same. On paper, it does say 15PS but I find it difficult to feel and understand the power. Its power is floating in the upper domain of the RPM and things get really scary at times up there. Was searching for some proper long time upgrade and finally onto P220 or P200NS, but now financial constraints.

Sorry that I forgot to tell you mileage is the main thingy apart from highway riding.
    Mileage should be around 50kmpl

    @prabhakar150
I've tried unicorn and felt ...very ..very heavy even though its 5,6 kgs heavier than p150

Stiked off fz because of mileage ,and apache because of lack of comfort

How much will p180 give ?? It seems bit heavy too

    I'm 19 ,5'8" tall and weigh 55kgs

    So please suggest accordingly
    Thank you
Bro, I am 5'6", weigh 53 kilos and 23 years young and I ride Pulsar 150. Was blown away by P220 and had a similar feeling with P180 as I have it with my P150. P150 seat is longer but a bit hard, so ultra long distances might hurt the bums. GS150R is a good bike, 6 gears, good power and a good city bike and thanks to 6th gear, it should be better on highways. The only thing is spares and service backup of Suzuki.

Unicorn again is the best of the lot. On an average, this scores better than any other 150cc bike.

probs like slippery tyres, lack of digi console ,bad mileage ( compared to other 150cc),head light

Though I 'm yet to take a test drive ,all those factors making me to back off

About p180 do you think I need 180 cc suits me?.I'm not power hungry bike .I'm a sane rider except on some highway points

Whats the mileage diff. between p180 and p150??

Which one gives best mileage between new p150 vs unicorn vs gs150r ??

Which one has the moooooooost pillion comfort ,for my elder brother and my mother ???

sry I asked many question ,but please reply to them
Mileage diff between P150 and P180 is not sky high. It should be between 6-10 KMPL. For the last two questions, I just answered it above. SZ has TVS Srichakra Tyres and I guess the owners of those tyres don't like it. They are hard compound tyres, designed to last long, but are not that good in grip. Also, SZ offers its peak torque ~12.xx Nm at low RPMs, thus giving you great city riding and pickup. Remember, all the bikes which provide its peak torque in lower rev range, does not give you the awesomest mileage, eg : FZ/Fazer, Karizma, P220, SZ(this should give around 45+/- 5). You can however extract more if you are gentle with the throttle and maintain the bike.

For me P150 is doing a good job as of now and I am happy with it. Started going long distances after getting half inch of foam over the stock seat, making it a bit more cushy.
I have extracted mileage of more than 61 KMPL during RUN-IN but now it has settled to around 50-53 KMPL since my riding style has changed significantly. It will drop more if I go JOKER on it, but its the case with every other bike irrespective of cc.

    • Thanks both of you ,prabhakar and akash for the valuable info

      I think I'll settle down with p150

About gs 150r ,no suzuki dealer nor a service centre in our town. So I need to travel 30-40 kms for any maintenance. Also I didn't liked the looks of it

Unicorn has whole 4-6 months waiting period here .Who can wait for such a long time

The same goes with sz-r .No yamaha showroom here.Though I liked the looks the cons are little high for a novice.I have zero knowledge in bike maintenance so if any prob persists I'll start freaking out

      @akash
How much does it cost for changing of seats .?we usually go 200+kms trips once in a month .I've driven p150 ug3 last time and had no problems in the long run
I see you're from Hyd.I'm from guntur dist. Ap.Can I get your fb profile .So that I can ask some questions abt run-in maintenance ,please
If you ride like there's no tomorrow there won't be.

You can weigh the pros and cons better according to your wish bro. I will still say that choose wisely.

I changed the cover as well + half inch foam, which costed me 120-150 (don't remember, but it was in this range only).

You can find me with the name Akash Yadav on FB and the profile pic will be me on the Green Babe Ninja 250R. Do add a message so that I can easily recognize.

          • Which is the best engine oil for Pulsar150?

This is Abhishek from Bangalore owning a Pulsar 150 (2009 model). I am a new member to this community and this is my first post thereafter.

By the end of this month (August 2012), I am planning for a bike trip from Bangalore to Ooty with my friends. I do not have much running within the city and prefer frequent longer drives during weekends. Somebody please suggest me which brand of 20W-50 Fully Synthetic/20W-50 Semi Synthetic Engine Oil would be best for my bike, preferably with longer draining intervals. Also please recommend if I should use any top-up in addition to the engine oil.

I will be shortly posting a detailed description of the trip on return.

Hey there mate. I would suggest Motul/Shell AX5/Valvoline 20W50/15W50 oil. I have not used them personally, but month long research lead me to these three. They are most suited to our Pulsars and are much much better than the crappy Bajaj DTSi oil. I have tried Bajaj, Yamalube 15W50 and right now using BP Mak 4T NXT and are in the same order of my preference. I am searching for Motul/Shell now and will be my next oil for rest of my journey with my P150.

change the rear shock-absorbers, your existing ones are not able to take the load with two persons sitting on it and hitting rock bottom point.

since yours is an old model, i guess it does not have nitrox shock absorbers, in that case, it might be possible to recondition them, just enquire. otherwise purchase a new one.

Now it has turned 80 (80000 kms). I have serviced this bike from Trivandrum pro biking to Ernakulam popular bajaj (400 kms range). Most of the time it was dissatisfaction that i got. As usual most of the bajaj bikes need utmost care to perform in peek condition always. same with this pulsar too. Till date managing/maintaing this bike has been the biggest task. But whatever, below the 70k price mark no 150 cc bike in market can deliver the punch and rush while riding as this one. I vow.
At 80000 kms i felt that screwing myself so much to maintain this bike was of less worth. Random thoughts like exchange, selling to a good bike loving customer, etc went through my head. Almost locked on Thunderbird 350 cc / ktm duke. Dad too uses the bike, hence Thunderbird was final one, just to give him a relaxed ride.
Well I have spent so many days of my life for this bike. At max I can get 35k as the cylinder has done 80000 kms. To revive the engine I may need not more than Rs.2500 as I carry out most works time to time. Gave it for service to an unknown ASS. just stressed, I care a lot and hence work too should be best. The bill was Rs.4500 (Rs.1000 for iridium plugs,Rs.1000 Labour charge, Rs.2000 parts.....) Got it back yesterday. the new cylinder and the feel of engine is amazing. something that i had 7 years back. Guys the smile on my face, can you see it??
I have posted pics of the bike. I'm using Michelin sports in rear (30psi) and zapper FS in front (25 psi). Irridium plugs. need help here. do iridium plugs require servicing like normal ones or else? Stock air filter. planning for K&N for a long time.tight on money. The bike is smooth and im keeping the revs under 3500 rpm. Thinking of breaking in fast.
On 1/8/2012 at 12:30 pm (noon), ie 2 weeks after this major work,at 81000 kms, my DAD had a road accident on this bike. Maruti Ertiga overtook a bus on a blind curve. left curve for car and bus, a no overtaking zone, continuous white line marked....car overtook leaving no space for the bike from opposite direction.
Dad always rides in low revs;had almost stopped...head to head collision...it is assumed that he was thrown off the bike and landed on his right side.
With big fight at home i had managed to make him use basic safety gears ( helmet & wind protection jacket) at the least. 3 years back he had given only Rs2000 for the helmet. I bought one for RS 4000 from bangalore METRO. Helmet did its job. even though the car was at around 60kms (at max), he was below 30 kms for sure (from his remarks,he was almost at halt).
He underwent 2 surgeries, one at right hip ( doctors explained about nailing process, rod into femur bone), second at right wrist (some plates and screws). another surgery needed on left knee (some implants) after a month.
Life is just out of normal. What to say....bike is a total loss. Ertiga didnt stop after the crash, people suspect driver slept off. Car ran over the bike and came to a halt by itself with no brake input from the driver. May be panic, eye fixation, freezing, sleep, fatigue ( doing a long drive ) are reasons for no brake input. But only he knows what made him overtake at a no overtaking blind turn!! check my earlier posts of bike (the way it was maintained and pics as of now). completely ripped off.
Have to intimate insurance guys and process documents.. My Dad was trying to arrange funds to get a MBBS seat for sis in bangalore. Anyway she has got a seat in BDS through entrance.
