You all can fill with speed or xtrapremium (91 octane) as the compression ratio of CBR is 10.7:1 which is better than other commuter vehicles.

For vehicles with CR more than 10, 91 octane is recommended. Though incase of emergency.. as Aditya pointed out.. sometimes filling on 87 octane will do no harm.. (IMHO- Being a Petroleum Engineer ).

I always go for 91 octane from shell for my Ninja.

Some say Speed/Xtrapremium spoils engine life...

So many misunderstandings about octane ratings in fuel. In short, using higher octane fuel will do nothing, except burn more of your money for no reason.

Now then, why do some engines need higher octane fuel then others? Compression ratio!

If an engine has a high enough compression ratio the tendency for the fuel-air mixture to start burning by itself or even detonate becomes a limiting factor. So if your engine has a lower compression ratio and you're running it on higher octane fuel, you're gaining nothing, but you're also not hurting your engine. (And high octane fuel does not burn slower than lower octane fuel either.)

Also note there are different octane numbers for fuel. RON (Research Octane Number) and MON (Motor Octane Number). RON is higher than MON. So it's important to know which rating Honda is using and which rating you fill at the fuel station.

I'm pretty sure Honda will make sure the engine in the CBR250R will not require any higher octane fuel, since that would put off a lot of customers.

I guess it will be a bit difficult to get someone who has (real) knowledge of this as the bike is yet to hit the road

                Drinking mineral water killed nobody.

I mean good fuel will do no harm. You can even fill aviation fuel in the bike which is 100 octane with no harm to the engine

                    • Hello my fellow Chennai xbhpian's! My dad finally gave me green lights for CBR Booking I am so happy! I even called him twice to make sure whether he was fooling me or something like that, Well its obvious what day it is :P

He confirmed that hez not and asked me to do the booking today Well I am at Choolaimedu presently, Which is the showroom nearby to me that I can visit, Who will also have a overall knowledge about the bike ?

From my previous query people pointed, Didar, JSP, Kun and some more ...

I tried the Dealer Locator thing from HMSI website and being new to Chennai, It really didnt help me much!

                      Simple guidance will really help!

Again regarding the petrol thinge, There was much much discussion's which plainly didnt help a noob like me -____-" Can someone rephrase in a noob statement "What petrol's can be used ?" (Please dont say 91 again! I really didnt get a clue about it!)

                          • What Fuel has been a dilemma for many bikers? The answer is simple, put in any fuel as long as you are sure about the dispensing bunk. Prefer company owned outlets as they are mandated to carry out quantity and quality tests every now and then.
The CBR should be able to take any fuel available in India 87/88 RON to 97 RON.
As someone pointed out earlier, higher octane fuel is used when you have a high compression ratio; true but not always applicable. Like Aditya quoted it earlier, no one harm can be caused by drinking mineral water...it's all dependent on how intent you are on spending extra money on a premium fuel.

As for me, I put in Speed 97 even in my Bajaj Spirit

                            • Am I the only one who finds the sound of the bike a little not what they wanted it to be like? I know we already discussed that this sound shows the refinement of the engine and the smoothness, but I was really hoping for a more aggressive sound, the start of the bike sounds like a muffled cough.

So dont fill dirty petrol in your cbr. Fill shell fuel only.

And to be safe avoid water and drink only beer.

Just fill up Shell fuel only. Regular or Premium doesnt matter. Premium contains additives but regular Shell should do just fine (better than just fine actually).
