Please check the sarcasm at the door and understand the meaning of the post.

To answer your question, I would prefer a bike without even a bikini fairing and just a round lamp. No tail, no tank flares, no fancy fairings needed. Just a set of panels and a good tank would do.

I wish bajaj had coppied the cb1100 too and made a pulsar200 classic.

I see what you mean. To be fair my post was pointed to a particular type of motorcycles as you might have understood. But as you said about what appeals you in a motorcycle, I think that is what compels us many times to have more than one type of motorcycle

Even I love the new CB1100. It is just so simple yet powerful with an inline 4. The round headlamp with a basic fuel tank, flat seat yet modern and long lasting. It is something that you dont have to prepare your mind to ride, if you know what I mean.

But I guess we can't expect anything like this from any Indian manufacturer for some time (not including RE). The reason could probably be that they want to capture the *young* market and something designed like a CB1100 may not be the best thing to do. The key words in the Indian motorcycle market currently is the *enthusiast's motorcycle*, something that instantly catches the attention of such a motorcyclist instantly and set the adrenaline pumping.

But yes, I would hope that Honda get its CB1100 here, I personally love it (if I can buy it or not is a purely different matter) and it could be the most practical inline 4 for our roads.

Exactly why i said that muscle bikes are dead. Newer riders prefer the flash of plasticky bikes. A propper classic style naked bike would go a long way minimising maintainance costs and smoothen the ownership experience as well.

What saddens me the most is bikes like fz and r15 while looking good lack the agression to justify their styling. They bearly have enough power/weight ratio to move along at decent speeds. Bajaj on the other hand just keeps adding more tech and features to existing bikes which after a point does not seem to fit with the profile of the bike its offered on. Another big trend emerging is bikes while producing bigger bhp numbers on paper are becoming more and more sedate to ride. This is to attract "inexperienced" riders. Its good to see the dukes breaking this rule though.

The ns was a welcome change offering a completely new bike. But still it lacked the freshness of the first gen pulsar mainly due to the non-existance of any growl and style statement. Its fast and quick but lacks character and sounds like any other four-stroke bike. Its looks while being great are synonymous with other "plastic" bikes. When the classic pulsar was launched it created its own class rather than being slotted between two. The "new" pulsar series still has to find its identity.

However this discussion is not about classics. It is about the p350+, so lets get back to that. Looking at the spy shots, unless the handle bars are lowered, the bike's fairing would look like an afterthought added to please the crowd rather than an integral part of the bike. The ns looked like a much more complete design. From what I can see the p350+ seems like a collection of good parts which dont gel together. Lets hope its rectified by the time its launched.

I agree on some of your points and but disagree on some as well... (i guess thats the part of human mind).. I am also a fan of muscle bikes with bare minimum metal body parts on it... however. these days. younger generation is more looking into flashy, faster bikes and not the solid ones.. but again.. thats just a matter of personal perference.. To me 200ns sounded just fine.. and I think it has started a complete new leauge of bikes for pulsar.. however.. i hvn't seen lot of them on the road..
About the rasied handle bars.. i think its a good move.. maintaining the correct sitting posture is very important on long rides.. even before 200ns was launched.. pictures didn't look that great.. but seeing it physically was a different exp. .... Spy shot are not very clear.. plus not at the correct angels as well.. so.. untill we do not see p375 in person.. can't really say how it would look like..

Well the ns200 sounds fine, its just too muffled. A bassier, more gruff tone would have suited the design more.

Yes, It has started a whole new generation of pulsars. However it is yet to find its mark. It still has a long way to go. I guess p220 on one end and duke 200 on the other are eating in to the ns's sales.

Spy shots are indeed not clear. But considering bajaj's faliure to keep their bikes' weight down, looking at that huge fairing seems scary. Handlebar position seems same as the ns. They could have raised the visor at least to a decent height. That would have made up for the handlebar height and given it a kind of adventure-tourer look.

I completely agree to your point on raising the Visor.. For me upright sitting posture is very important.. as m more than 6ft tall.. crouch sitting is not one of my fav. positions.. Duke's style is also fine.. but only till the time when you don't have to suspend your legs behind... if they can work on that.. That will be really good.. one thing about honda I really like is the sitting posture is exactly according to the bike..

It not a failure for Bajaj to keep the weight down,. I think you are forgetting that Bajaj always produced which are in the range of the maximum number of the our Junta. Which will also help them to meet the volumes on the other hand. If they will be going for Aluminium Chassis then price will be as good as Duke on the counterpart. So, what will be the point of serving their customers for cheaper performance bike. In Business numbers do play a great role. Its not on providing you the machine, which will not help you to achieve economies of scale.

Thechology for the sake of technology is unnecessary. A bike's weight can be reducesed through various other methods without using hi-tech and expensive aluminium frames. For example, a yamaha rd350b which is 40 years old tech, weighs 10 kgs less than a pulsar 220 even after sporting a twin cylinder engine, spoke wheels, tubed tyres and every possible bit made out of metal.

Bajaj lacks experience in making a good, balanced, light weight chassis. They will learn in time. I had a conversation with a bajaj engineer after i bought my 220. I asked him how come bajaj never changed the chassis for the 220 and made it lighter? He replied that it works fine. Why change it? just make it heavier for the bigger engine. So if this was or is the attitude of bajaj, then they need to change it. They may offer a vfm package, but without a propper chassis it would all go for a toss, because no matter how much I hate the debate for "track" handling, I would still like to see a nimble and flickable bike.

Wow that was a long senence..

RD350 and P220 are two complete different bikes.. if you can notice the overall size of the bikes.. that adds up to lot of weight as well, plus the fairing on the bike which RD does not have... However.. I am sure that Bajaj Engineers/ designers are much more capable and have much more knowledge on bikes as we do.. Any company does not want to produce a product with lot of heavy weight.. if you add more metal.. it adds up to the overall weight as well.. and Adding metal also adds up to rigidness and sturdiness.. depending on what metal we use.. it impacts cost as well.. so its just not the weight factor.. there is Cost, reliability, sturdiness and to look appealing as well and which segment of consumers are targeted... So Bajaj has always created bikes which will suit almost all segments crowd.. youngsters.. daily commuters.. family guys etc etc, unlike Duke which is mainly for youngsters street fighter type..

The rd350 did not have a 4 stroke engine which are known to be heavier because of the complex design, no oil cooler, no disc setup at either ends, no gas filled shox, no big forks, no semi fairing, no big tyres, alloys used on indian bikes are way heavier than spoke wheels (the ones you are talking about costs as much as a pulsar220)

Bajaj lacks experience in making a well balanced light weight chassis? Should I even answer this question? The ns rides on a perimeter frame and handles way better than a lot of indian bikes, just that the tyres are not very good, still it is right there with the best handling bikes in India.
Juat notice how well all that weight has been centralised, that is where they used technology.
And who do you think manufactures duke? Do you doubt its handling, balance or how light it is?
If they give everything in a bike they would not be able to price is as good as they do. And any technology they use would need a lot of r&d which again would translate to the bikes cost. Bajaj is one of the very few manufacturers in the country that exactly knows what they are doing and listens to their customers demands.

I second that... Unlike Honda and Yamaha.. who don't even care what people want or what people are demanding.. they just produce what they want.. and keep the costs as much as they want.

I am not comapairing engine technology. I am comparing the weight of two bikes. The engine of the rd is heavier than the 220. It was just an example. You took it too literally. Who am i to question what a company does or doesnot do with their r&d? I am just stating a fact that a bike bigger than the 220 is lighter as well. Am I wrong?

Actually this trend started from the KB 100. I don't remember the very first one, but the next campaign had "Tame the cheetah" as it's tagline. This was the delta tuned KB 100 RTZ. Then came the KB 125 which had the tagline "Don't mess with me".

Should you answer it??? Its your wish.

You think i dont know the difference between a two stroke and a four stroke engine? Or is it I dont know the difference between a 220 and an rd? I may own both, work myself on both, hell I may have retrofitted a 220 top end on my old 180 classic and converted to a cantilever type monoshock system, but sure, what do I know....

There is something called constructive criticism. I have been a fan of bajaj bikes for a decade now. I have seen them progress from the revolutionary classic pulsar to the ns. So I think I am entitled to and am qualified to give my opinion on a bajaj bike on a public forum. I did not criticise bajaj. I just said they still have some way to go.
