For a long time I have disliked hero for their over usage of the same engine. I guess that is about to change.

Why not from EBR. Sure hero still has chance to exploit Honda engines

As 2014 is nearing , Hero is becoming more strong.. sold 50 Million Bikes..new models to arrive from Sep(i.e. next month) onwards..Hero MotoCorp eyes 50 new markets, Rs 60,000 crore turnover by 2020 - The Economic Times

12 new models in the next 2 quarters starting from september.. hmmmm.. sounds interesting.. hope they dont fool us with the 100cc launches.. but my instinct says they will launch the 250cc or the refresh next month like how zmr was 4yrs back.. my god.. after 4 yrs only now they are gonna release something new. Excited and at the same time worried.. lol..

[Assuming that HMC changes all names - like CBZ Xtreme was renamed to "just" Xtreme, Karizma may get renamed too.]

we can compare Hero's failure to Nokia's.. both were market leaders and had so much in their hands., but lost it all in releasing the same models with slight modifications over n over again..
if Hero really wants to get into the market, ut has to deliver something really mind-blowing.. or else the rivals would crush its dominance even in the sub 100cc section..
wish Hero could see the discussion happening in this thread and learn something as to what the customers want..

Little OT, but Nokia's downfall (not completely) is not because of their phones. It was because of Apple and Android.
BTW, I dont consider Hero as failure (except for few motorcycle enthusiasts on xbhp)

Hero was restricted (they did not had option) all these years by Honda. I wont blame Hero for the bikes that they have been releasing. They did what ever they had in their scope.

Xtreme, ZMR, 125cc has all the features on par with other motorcycles in their class.

With Hero developing its own engines to replace the ones on the Splendor/Passion and other models, it's becoming clear that Honda isn't giving Hero the licence to use the Sochiro Honda developed gems post 2014.

If this is the status, then I see Hero being steamrolled by Honda in a couple of years.. and once the Honda engines are replaced, even the remaining Hero loyalists at xBhp will shift towards Honda.

For Honda, it is Hero that is Enemy No. 1 in India.

Maybe true. But i would prefer to go with a hero engine over the honda engine.. :-) i would love to see the Indian brand take on Honda who recently went through a break up..
