i'm happy and excited but all i have is one doubt

I DON'T THINK THE SHOWROOM GUYS HAVE TOPPED UP THE ENGINE OIL PROPERLY

i'm thinking of topping it up myself but then i don't know wat oil the've put,so would mixing create problems??

Put ur bike on the main stand and check if the oil level is between the two markers. Observe this through the galss window on the right side of the engine.

If it is right, leave it as such. If not , u can top up with any 20W50 mineral oil.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

        Congrats on the bike Gokul!
You should check the engine oil level using the dipstick method (refer to the Owner's Manual for details) before you end up buying a can of Engine Oil to top it up..
& mixing engine oils is the last think you would want to do to your brand new bike..
If you end up finding out that the engine oil that the Showroom guys have filled is insufficient, go & claim it from them.. If they don't agree to top it up, pls do raise the issue with Bajaj Auto.. & then find out from the Showroom guys which Engine Oil they had filled in your bike, & buy a can & top it up yourself..
Cheers! & take proper care of your ride & do a proper run-in...

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Tibby, Pulsars dont have dipsticks. They have a glass window for observing the oil level.

Coming to your oil mixing thoery, Whenever the old oil is drained, it s not drained completely, some of it still remains within the engine. That is the reason, more oil(higher than that recommended) is filled whenever the engine is completely stripped out.

So, actually some of your old oil is mixed with the new oil u pour in, everytime u make an oil change. Absolutely no issues with that.

Guys have been commuting/touring even with Fully synthetic+mineral oil mix and they have not reported a problem.

In this case, mixing two mineral oils of the same grade is no harm!

Hmmm... I wasn't aware that Pulsars don't have a dipstick! Sorry for that..
I do agree to the fact that some oil does remain whenever the engine oil is drained out.. & when filling in a new one, it does mix with the older one..
But my point here is that you should not mix oils in a brand new bike.. It is essential that the engine is fed with 1 kind of oil during the critical run-in phase..
Regarding mixing of oils during commuting & touring, I agree there's no hassles with that, but thats after the engine has completed its run-in..
"Mixing two mineral oils of the same grade is no harm" - I personally would find out what brand has been used by the showroom, & top it up with that..
Guys, please correct me if I am wrong here..

                • It's advisable not mix 2 different oils. Check out which oil your service center is using. But in your case straightway head to the service center and ask them to top up, simple. Why do you want spend extra.

Though from my experience, I would say mixing 2 oils for shorter period doesn't effect the bike. As I had to use 20W40 Castrol Activ with my Motul Synthetic 20W50, the latter wasn't available, and my oil was quiet new that time. Even running in for 400 kms, no problems.

                  • Well, technically I dont see any issue if you are changing your brand/grade during Oil Changes. The only issue was when the fully synthetic oil was eating up the Silver coating made at the joints in the engine. But that too was rectified and thats when ppl started using fully synthetic oil full fledged.

Will be happy to be proven wrong!

                            .................................................. ..........................................

interesting conversation today afternoon at the bajaj showroom:

sales guy: sir meeru accessories teesokara?

sir don't u want the accessories?

sales guy: sir meeku malli registration ki problem avutadi!

it would cause u problems in registration!

                            me: ala emi undadu anukunta?

the best part is the accessories consisted of tank, seat cover, helmet lock, side handle(the one used by ladies to hold their hands onto).

                            .................................................. .................................................. .

another guy who also bought a 180 faced an irritating situation when after all sales reciept paperwork, insurance done came to know that the fellows had written down an improper engine number!!

and then he had to bang his head.the showroom guys just made him roam from one table to another

sadly was not able to see the end.
                            ......................

                                you sure about it?
My 180 ug2 had the dipstick on the filler cap.
As per the user's manual the level was to be checked with the cap fully unscrewed. But I could never get anything by that method. and the guys at the asc told that it was wrongly printed. It was to be fully screwed in to check the level.
Abt the window. If i'm assuming it's the right one,
It's on the top of the LHS casing. you could see the stator or whatever rotating but never the oil level coz it's horizontal and you look down it.
Or do I have something grossly wrong here?
