The bike has been brought to india as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down)..meaning parts imported from 'where ever' and assembled in india. This way bajaj pays less tax for importing the bike and they passed on the savings to bikers in india.
Another way of importing bikes would be as a CBU(completely built unit) < way tooo much tax.
I think bajaj saved us close to 1 lac by opting for the CKD route.
Yamaha, suzuki and honda, although operating by themselves in india, have opted for CBU route for their premier bikes..had it been CKD people could have saved 2 to 3 lakhs on those bikes..what a shame.
      Cheers to Bajaj...'Hamara' bajaj.

        No.

The 2010 FI bike costs 3999 Sterling Pounds in the United Kingdom.

        3999 * 75.9 = 303600

I am baffled why I paid only 296000

        • 3999 is including 15% vat and regn charges.
The UK regn charges are way higher than that of india.SO cant compare both .
Just ex showroom to ex showroom price
The bike is actually lil cheaper in the UK .

Anyways a cost of 2.9L in india is justified , instead of getting the bike in grey and paying the RTO guys , better pay bajaj the same or lesser amount and getting a legal bike is anyday better.

              - 3 lakhs rupees
              USA - $4299 - 2 lakh rupees

could be because of import duty in UK.

                        Little bit OT

I think no bike company in India can release a bike without a number plate on the front. Don't know the exact rules. Do you think that Bajaj ( or any other company) will put a number plate in such a way to disturb the beauty of a bike..????

Using the number plate or not using it, after buying a bike is a different story. Its up to you......

                        What you say @Bandhav???

and i have not even added those mandatory riding gears cost in the whole budget.

PS: my 600cc is coming in 2011. that is, if I am not wrong with my calculations and still get paid

actually my gladiator ss was one of the very first role outs from the showroom...at that time the company was not providing the front number plate...after complains the number plate was added up as default.... that's why my bike is not having a front number plate...but the real reason is i love it this way....

Mumbai Roads = (NO parking + Pay and Parks) - (really really bad roads with pot holes)

The road tax I pay funds the people who tow away my vehicle, the money I pay the RTO to release my vehicle funds new no-parking boards!!!!
