  • Service at weekend

Last Friday we (yes WE) had a service for Rx at 6700 Kms to precise. Thanks to Sri (SriramEFunds) to get a Motul 5100 for me. I'll reserve the comments of the engine later, but for now focus on service.
    - Found that one of the nut had fallen off the right L bracket; must be due to loose fitting when I experiemented with the exhaust
    - Carbs, I didn't clean much as its already cleaned up every now & then
    - Cleaned air filter
    - Drained transmission oil & filled with Motul 5100
    - Checked all lightings & since everything was intact, didn't have to do anything
    - Cleaned up chain cover & applied old 2T oil to chain for lubrication
    - Since the brakes were intact, didn't want to touch & mess up them
    - Clutch cable was changed recently & the play was also in good shape
    - Removed mud from under the chassis

Now to the experience of Motul - I could notice the smoothness right after the 1st gear & I'd say way too smooth. It only got better over time. Never seen such a smooth performance ever in my 13+ years. Truly Motul 5100 is an awesome engine oil well suited for Rx. I don't know if any other company can provide such a quality (Sri, you know which one I'm talking about ), but I don't want to change again from Motul. Its simply awesome though its a 10W40.

Finally when all the work was over it was around 3PM (There was much more drama too ). After an hour to two, I notice a tiny pool of oil on the ground. Now I'm scared...the engine is leaking oil...but how? I'm beginning to think...

    • Did you have to tighten the drain bolt with fingers or had to use a spanner from the start?

Used fingers all the time except when tightening & first turn when removing

        • Now I'm scared...the engine is leaking oil...but how? I'm beginning to think how this could happen. May be I overtightened the drain bolt & cut out the oil seal probably

So I went to inspect the bottom & found the drain bolt area to be dry. So now its confirmed that its leaking from the crankcase. Then it striked to my mind that I'd opened the crankcover to show the clutch assy & how the gear main shaft is located earlier that day & hadn't replaced the gasket as I didn't have any.

Run now!!! I dashed to the spare parts shop, picked up a gasket assy along with the drain bolt oil seal.

Saturday morning, drained up the oil once again, opened up the side case, replaced the gasket & VOILA!!! The leak stopped

Lol!!! Last Friday was a holiday; I spent over an year's time understanding how to open up & fix most common things.

Guys one question - Is Pacco (not Spaco) a good carb for Rx? I know Mikuni is best, but still contemplating. Pls provide your opinion.

Also what's the venturi size for Rx135 4S? Is it the same as Rx100 or different one? Reason for this question is, the Pacco carb is available for Rx100 over the shelf, so, if I could get hold of the 165 MJ & 17.5 PJ, I thought of plonking the jets into the 100's carbs, PROVIDED the venturi size is the same.

              • RX135 is 22mm. So a Pacco is out of question. Why dont you try a 24mm or a RXK 26mm one? Finding jets shouldnt be very difficult.

                      • How Mechanical is different from Electrical?

This is one incident today that sent me shivers & could've cost a huge hole in my wallet for experimenting.

A few days back I bought a ROOTS 2.5A twin vibromini horns. I'm not a big freak of fancy loud horns, but, the stock one wasn't serving the purpose; if you ask me back would ppl still respond to the twin vibromini, I know the answer for myself, its still sound falling on deaf ears

Though I'm very very weak when it comes to Electricals, I was proud of myself to have bought the RELAY along with the ROOTS horns & this was several weeks ago.

Finally I picked up some courage today to get them fixed. I went through the circuit diagram provided on the cover several times & had thoroughly understood as how to provide appropriate wiring. I also was very arrogant that my Rx had perfect electrical. Frankly speaking, nothing to be proud of, but for sure they ARE good.

Bought a meter of wire, socket clips to pin them & then started working; about an hour+ later, I'd the entire setup done & I pressed the horn button & damn!!! it didn't even sound though I could hear a light "click click" sound when I pressed the horn switch. Now I understood that the circuit MAY be fine & it powers up, but something is wrong. May be two 2.5A requires a 5A battery

Got down to troubleshoot now!!! With the confidence level boosted up, I unplugged one horn & then found the other one was working fine. So now, I wanted to test the second one & I was providing the connection. Not sure what went wrong or even what happened, this one was not honking. Ok, so the issue must be with the horn probably, that is what I said to myself. But then, let me double check. I notice something strange with pilot lamps & then it strikes me that the neutral lamp isn't glowing, which means...blown away fuse, which means...

                        • are you using cut out for the balance current supply,if not things gonna happen because these kind of horns using more current to leveled up we need to use cutout for proper current flow

What is this relay unit first of all? On what situation do we use? I see one being used in my car (separate ones) for both horn as well as upgraded lights. Are you saying its not required? Any education is appreciated. Tks.

                              • I think the metallic little box thingy inside your box of horns is the relay! At least that's what the guy told me it was when I bought a pair of horns for my RX. It never worked out for me anyways, diploma college + good horns = stolen horns
