That's very hilarious incident & the entire crowd watching your friend would've felt way too embarassed; I guess no one watched my scene too (just hoping

But, I'm not sure on the timing because, I simply removed the casing cover, examined everything & then fitted the things back. Trust me, I didn't even remove the stator plate from the screws. I simply (pretended) tightened things with impact driver & then covered the case & then went on to start once again & voila the bike started moving forward.

    +1; I too couldn't understand.

What I ASSUME is, probably the magnet would've run in anti clockwise direction for some reason.

from what i could make out from your explainations and pics, the plate is fully screwed anticlockwise which is bound to retard the timing. one should start by fitting it fully clockwise and the move it mm by mm anticlockwise to find the right spot.
Btw.. it could also be a misaligned wudruff key.

Good question! i wonder why i never asked this to myself so never tried to find a reason. My RD used to this in its pre RDD days and the reason other RD owners gave me was retarded timing. Im a bit mechanically challenged so from what i can understand is while kicking, before the crankshaft makes a good rotation in the normal direction, the retarded timing gives off a spark and the resulting combustion forces the piston downwards making the crank to rotate the other way.

Little did I know that the worst is yet to come!!!

So I took a spin with that kind of fixture on the generator; I called up people bugged many & nothing could help. So a complete conked off Sunday.

So from Monday to Friday I took my scooter to office; but yes, it was very much fun to ride too. I seriously admit it. Some more power, say 20hp on scooter, I'll make Rx as weekend ride & keep riding scooter happily.

Friday I was Furious!!! I was suggested to fit a digital CDI to solve the issue. So I came home, took a good 2 hours to fix the CDI & finally...the bike didn't start

So after lots of R&D (obviously bugging people) I finally started & the heat? Yes it was still there!!!

Anyway, I decided to change the poles of dyno on Saturday. Saturday morning, I started the work fresh, put the stator to the provided slots fixed it happily, ensure CDI works & 1 kick - boy!!! the Rx started. I was damn happy. I put back the case & then took it out, engaged the clutch and then realized...

Good to know that you were able fix the issue. After plonking the RDD goodies, how was the ride? Update please....

and then realized, I hadn't fixed the gear shaft; by then I'd engaged the clutch too!!! but then I hear a mild grinding noise, in a vain I tried to put off the engine by closing the keys. But the engine wouldn't stop as I'd taken the power supply from battery.

By the time I took it back to fix the gear, the damage is already done; but little did I know that.

So I put back all the screws on the casing, fixed the gear lever & then engaged the gear this time, all I hear is "shhhck" sound & the gear won't engage. Now I know there's something conked off for sure. This is really frustrating!!!

Again, started calling up people & everyone said the same. Fixing a new generator WILL NOT conk the gears!!!

So what do I do now? I'm frustrated. I packed up & called a day!!!

Next day, I drained up the oil, removed the clutch case, called up a regular mech & replaced the gear shaft. Whew!!! The gears are smooth now!!!

So if one moves few pages back, I'd reported saying the gears are hard & the issue is finally being fixed. So what was the issue? A faulty manufactured gear shaft from Yamaha & it took about 3 months OR 5.2 Kms for us to realize!!! Can anyone believe this? All of them are genuine parts from YMIS. Sri, can you believe this?

So after fixing this, the gears have become butter smooth, but...

Truly unbelievable and sad you had to go through frustration to realize what was the issue. One good thing is that, you are in a way lucky to find out the issue and fix it. You can now enjoy good iginition, lighting and butter smooth gear shifts all the way through !

The issue with gear shaft is something we need to analyze if it was of 100 by any chance, A defect that had creeped the Q.C checked line at the factory last but not the least smart selling?

Obviously one cannot be sure by looking at some mechanical components unless they have indepth background of their dimensions except some shabby outlook.

But, the cylinder & cylinder head's are hot!!!

Damn!!! I mean hot even for a 2-3 Kms ride. This was really a frustration I didn't expect this to happen. All this happened on a Sunday; so the next day, I'd taken scooter to office & Gosh!!! my bad that I totally forgot that I'd an RDD Junkie working at my office.

Now he provides me a set of docos to go through on the timing thing, timing gun, sparks etc. Only then I did realize what I'm trying (trying???) actually what I did & I was like . And not to mention, psycho98's explanation on how I could hole the piston; all put together made me

I became a perfect example of what half knowledge could fetch!!!

Well, not much on the gear shifts, the story is coming though. I'm beginning to AGREE with you on the consequence of continuous shift down when running.

Hats off to me??? Lol, what for Arun? My knowledge is half-baked & I'm doing something what all others have done a decade ago.

I'm really doing this because, I'm tired of being taken for a ride. Also one more IMPORTANT reason...

When one gives the vehicle to an independent garage or even at A.S.S, the issue is that, those guys treat it as machine & do all nonsense when working, but we do take care. To give an example, when they remove the gear lever, they use a screw driver or something to pull the gear lever out; yes I too do the same, just that I wrap the screw driver with a cloth so that the paint is not damaged.

When I remove the side panels, I place them inverted at some good secured place where no one can reach easily. But at a garage???

Never I've placed the fuel tank on the ground, I always place it on the seats. But at A.S.S???

This is what is the difference between business & passion!!! There might be some good mechanics who would want to do this, but few guys who work under them are careless!!!
