Very few people know that Escorts had also planned to bring in the RX-KING to India before the 5 speed and the RXZ were launched. I have a magazine article of the bike being tested. I was kinda excited by the news but sadly they didnt launch it.Last edited by yamdoot; 03-05-2011, 02:32 AM.1985 Yamaha RD350 HT

Kudos to to you yamdoot for pulling this artcle.. Memeries and nostalgia came rushing back. Back in 1993 this was my dream bike. This was just when the boss Shoguns had come out and knocked the RX100 from it's position, and the RX125 was being thought of to counter.Sadly it never made it beyond test bikes and prototype stage."I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine. If I get home before day light, just might get some sleep tonight" - The Grateful Dead.
The Stable - 2009 Yamaha FZS (Baby Beast) & 2010 YAMAHA YZF R15 (Anjuna Sunset).
Wishlist - Kawasaki Ninja 250r, YAMAHA R6 and Bullet standard 500 with the CI engine and a handpainted Goa Chic helmet.

Doc, i really appreciate your effort. Yes the bike seems real, but for me it just seems like a prototype. Its just on paper, never really hit the road. The only bike which came after RX100 into mass production in India was RXG.Originally posted by yamdoot View PostContinuation of the article..

So the bike was for real.
This RX125 is quite similar to the mysterious Shogun Shadow (5 Gear 16BHP), data only on Paper !!!!!!!!
I only wish this bike was launched in India (Mass production) back in 1994 & i am quite sure the RX135s which had followed up were sure to be in the range of 18 BHP & not some 12/14 BHP figures !!!! A company ported cylinder is any day better choice than local porting.
And not to mention it took more than 6yrs after this article for Yamaha India to understand that they needed a 5-Speed version of an RX !!!!
If only Yamaha India had focused half of what they are doing today with R15s & FZs (Championships & what not !!!
) on the legendary RX series things would have been different. I can go on & on cursing Yamaha India for doing nothing, but its really not worth my time or yours, we have to accept the things they way they are & move on.
Nevertheless doc, as someone said above, "You have just made my day".

Thanks Karthik! I feel this is more than a prototype as it was tested in the real world by real people unlike the Shadow. Did you notice the Rpm meter is calibrated till 12k! and even on the meter dials they have the Escorts logo. This tells us they were very serious about this bike and i do believe some were even sold.1985 Yamaha RD350 HT

Hi jd666,Originally posted by jd666 View Postthere is a very interesting comparo between a FZ 16 and a RX100 in this month's autocar or overdrive. It will surely answer a few more questions because even there the RX100 has a higher power to weight ratio than the FZ. Check it out.
Only at Indian magazines you can see this kind of comparison, this reminds me some of my clients ( friends ) as which car should I go..??
" Is it Maruthi Alto OR a Toyota Innova "
As all of us aware of...they belong to different categories, you can't compare like that..
Even last month's " The BIKE" magazine had some comparing stuffs..at least the one between " 1956 Mag-dynamo RE Bullet Vs RE Classic 350" made some sense..
'am bit puzzled about this thread, what actually the discussion about??
Is it comparing 2 stroke & 4 strokes of same capacity ( this I mean the cubic capacity of the motor) OR trying to understand the pros & cons of two type of engines??
Or we going to compare particular( similar) machines of same era??

All two stroke machines that were heard of in India............the discussions also leads to judging the fact, which of them was ahead of its time...Originally posted by powertwin View PostOr we going to compare particular( similar) machines of same era??
The thing about RX vs FZ comparison that you mentioned only portrays the two different faces of Yamaha, in era of 2Ts and in era of 4Ts.Hell's Angel
