if you can get me an original nippon denso cdi unit and 2 sealing plugs , try bajajs factory owned outlets i think they have one in mumbai or pune , also stick to original stuff they are cheaper than outside stuff(learnt it the hard way oem oil seal kit costs 70/- outside stuff 95/-) also it seems some parts like the oil seal kit , kickerpawl etc are still in production at the factoryOriginally posted by yamdoot View Post@ all KB guys , I'll be going on a parts hunt this month end. KB you've got superman's X-ray vision! Seriously! Yes you are right. The pillion rider foot pegs are from the Suzuki Heat or Zeus...i forget which one. Some !@#$%^&*ker stole the right foot peg the square ones as you know. So got these to fit. For now I'm using them, but as soon as I get the original one, back on they go!Originally posted by kb100 View Postmost parts look original the only variation is the pillion footrestTrue blue smoke makes the devil's blood run cold

Alright....But I'm going to start at the beginning.Originally posted by kb100 View Postthread awake
........now tell us more about your ride
It was 1987. I was all of 5 years old and we were going to visit a family friend in Alaknanda area in Delhi. As we entered the DDA building there was a vast space for parking on the ground floor. Saw several chetaks and NVs...few lambys too. But the corner closest to me caught my attention (Quick note, by this time I had already seen a RX100, a turquoise-ish blue colour. It screamed all over my colony with blue smoke trailing it all over the place)
So back at the corner were two bikes a blue KB100 and a grey KB100. My tiny feet were stuck on the floor. It was hard to pull myself away, and my dad smiled and understood because he owned a Yezdi Classic, Jawa and a Bullet. He smiled at my mom and she "humphed" and mumbled under her breath "another one gone". Anyway my dad asked our friend why he had two of the same bike. He said after the grey KB was stolen he bought the blue one. But a little while later the police found the grey one so landed up with two KB's! Lucky bugger! So whenever he'd come over I'd run downstairs and ogle at the sleekness of the KB. The console thoroughly confused me with its lights and dials. But I was hooked and there was nothing anyone could do.
The year's passed by fast and newer 2 strokes like the Shogun, Shaolin, RXG, RX135 (5-speed) came into the market. The KB125 was lost amongst all these, but I still looked out for the original KB.
I made peace with myself that the time of 2 strokes would pass me by and into history, and it would be something I heard about but never experience. The angry rumble of an RD, the lazy tinging of a Yezdi, the rapid fire of an RX and Shogun..sigh. Finally, only the RX135 (4-speed was available) and the RXZ (5-speed), and the TVS Suzuki Max 100 R remained.
At the time I still thought that the RXZ just had different body panels. Idiot that I was! Anyway bought an RX135 (grabbed it more like!) "Cherry Brown" they called it. Anyway Dad was mumbling sacrilegious things like "why don't you get a CBZ or that new bajaj thing...Pulsar? Wasn't having any of it. I told him "take a ride on the RX and see if you know what I'm talking about" So he did. And that long ago smile came back, when I was 5 and was looking at those twin KB's. He came back after a round and said "after a long time" and finally "lets take it".
When I was in college another friend and I (he had a 5S) smoked everyone's CBZ's, Pulsar's, you name it. Girls were holding on for dear life, screaming as loud as the bike. Then of course we got a wizard of an idea to saw off the bars at the back! boys will be boys I guess! But I still kept a look out for a KB100. It was tough because as the years went by there were fewer around. It was for some reason never very popular around Delhi because as fast as they came in, they went out.
Hunted high and low, from Nangloi to Karol Bagh, to Lajpat Nagar to Okhla....years ticked by...and the ring ding dings faded and were replaced by silent 4 strokes.
Tick tock tick tock....time was running out
Then in late 2009 at Lajpat Nagar there was this dude who wanted to sell his KB125. I pestered him but then for some dumb reason 6 weeks later he changed his mind. Now people this is where the fun begins. I was dragging myself back home thinking it'll never happen now, forget it and let it rest. Started to walk down the road and then from the side of my eye I saw something vague and cubical. I turned my head and lo and behold was a KB100. It was filthy but nothing broken, at least at first glance. So went in to take a closer look. There were dents on the tank, the stickers had faded, I rubbed the tank and under three inches of soot and dust was a familiar grey...suddenly the owner came out and asked what I was doing. I said "admiring your bike". And I choked up. He then came down in a friendly manner to tell me all about it. It was a 1987 RTZ, one of the first batches that began shipping sometime in November of the same year, "DAA" were his registration letters. The console (made perfect sense to me now!) was dusty but functional, the speedometer wasn't working as the cable had worn out, tachometer and fuel gauge were operational! UNFRIGGINBELIVABLE! and "Kawasaki" was written on its front, not "Bajaj". He started her up and she fired on the 3rd kick. It's unique two-piece kick start was still working and in one piece! I pursued this guy for 5 months but finally he said he wasn't going to sell...I was ready to give up completely.
One month later my good friend Sean had to go to a consultancy in Malviya Nagar (Delhi). So dropped him there and waited around. In the ground floor was a hunk of junk bike. Yes you guessed it! Another KB, with a "DAA" number plate! Damn everything!!!!! I went up, talked to the owner, short of catching him by his collar I did everything else! Shouted, and jumped! Bought it there and then for 5K. Was going to come the next day and collect it. Papers were good, but RC had expired in 2003. He showed me the bike and started her up. The choke cable was torn and stuck out from somewhere in the engine. So he pulled on it and at the same time started it up. Then he handed it over to me.
Finally, after 23 years I was riding a KB...MY KB!
Next day I collected it and tried to start her up. Her kick-start broke and my mech was all the way over in Lajpat Nagar! It was the 2nd of May 2010 and hot as hell. A rickshaw was charging me 1100 just to carry it there! "No way" I said and started to push her all the way there. On the way out of the colony a cop stopped me and asked me if I was mad for pushing and trying to repair this relic. I said I was, and he gave me a water bottle and I continued my trek with my sweetheart. People stared at me thinking I had lost it. One guy even told me to leave on the side somewhere. Philistines!
I had to be fast because my mech was leaving for a month and I wanted to show him the bike and brief him on what had to be done what I wanted. I was exhausted by the time i got there. A small kiosk nearby gave me an R/C Cola for free because I was flat on the ground in the mech's shop! LOL! Left it there for 5 months. Parts were hard to come by no doubt but it was rebuilt just the way I wanted it to be. The bike had done only about 19000 KMS, so the engine was in good shape, and apart from changing the piston, everything else was working and original. Then got down to painting. First I wanted to paint in its original red. It had a unique sticker set with red, white and yellow. Wasn't going to get those now so I went for the red, black and white one (standard). But then I remembered the blue KB all the way back from '87. So had the red removed and got the blue I wanted.
Truth be told, I had always wanted a blue KB because it looked so different. Anyway, got it re-painted and searched another 4 months for the original stickers in old Delhi, Karol Bagh, finally found some in a ramshackle bike shop near the outskirts of Delhi. And I also found the original "KB100" monograms for the side panels! Got them put on, and she was finally complete! I took her home and dad was going out for a walk. He was shocked but not surprised. He patted my back, smiled the same smile and said "so you finally did it". Suddenly 1987 didn't seen that far back.
You see people, as much as I loved my RX135, I had made a promise to myself during that dusky evening twenty odd years ago that no matter what, one day I was going to own my very own KB100. It was just that simple.
