Kawasaki kb100 RTZ rebuild

  • Greetings to everyone on this forum. Hats off to everyone restoring their KBs and those helping and encouraging them . The content that I've found on this site is invaluable . This is my story .

    My father a young IAF officer , approached his father for some money to buy a motorcycle. Probably concerned about his son's safety , my grandfather disagreed . Not one to be deterred , my father rode up to our ancestral home on his gleaming new KB100 RTZ . The grace of auto loans ! I was born in 1993 and ever since I can remember this has been my favorite toy . My father would.take me for a joyride everyday during his lunch break . I would discover the world sitting on the fuel tank , with my legs on the leg guard .Later we purchased a Maruti 800 , but the pilgrimage to church and school continued to be done on the faithful KB . We had now purchased a Kinetic for my mother and it was becoming difficult to keep three vehicles . So my father sold off the KB when we were we posted off from Wellington , to our mechanic .

    But this machine meant a lot to me . I felt the same pain in my heart that I get when I say bye to my cousins who've come on vacation from abroad. I'm interested in psychology and in a book written by Dr. Eric Berne I read that everyone's life follows a script that we determine at unconsciously . I gather that my script leads me to be a creator . It's not surprising that I took up Automobile Engineering as my subject of study .

    I'll be embarking on a KB 100 restoration , to pay homage to the machine that started my Passion for automobiles . And who knows maybe , I'll end up surprising my father just as he had once surprised his father !

      • Thankyou kb100 : ) I'm from Kerala . At the moment i'm studying in Chennai .

        I'm still in my first year, so my technical knowledge is zero . I've borrowed some books from the library to increase my knowledge in this regard , but i'll still be relying on the collective knowledge and experience of the members on this forum .

        The KB is lying with my maternal grandparents in Ernakulam . I can't bring her to Chennai as two wheelers are not allowed in my hostel . I'll only be moving out after this sem , so i'll be collecting parts till then . I've PMed you my no and email ID , so please send out a word if you come across something interesting.

          • finally 19 months after i had started this thread , my objective of inspiring/convincing /fooling /shanghaiing somebody to keep and restore their kb has finally come true , rookieraj has rebuilt his entire bike from scratch , he did 99.9% of work on the bike himself , im happy as anything , thanks sir for making this thread worth it, and thanks to psr sir and doc for the manual and parts

              • Oil leak from carburetor

                Hi there every one

                i got this KB 100 which i am loving. i have given it for rebuilding. one of the major problem was oil leakage due to overflow from carburetor every couple of week
                I am not able to find an orignal carburetor

                Is there any one amongst you who could help me out
                where can i find the orignal carburetor and how much it will cost me ?

                or any other solution
                i desperately need a solution

                  that is a little confusing. oil should not leak because your carb is overflowing. fuel, i can understand. anyway, i recommend you do the following:-

                  a - adjust the tang of the float to manual specs. the height of the float should be 25 +/- 2 mm when measured with the gasket.

                  b - check for wear of the needle valve and ensure that the needle valve seat is squeaky clean.

                  c - get yourself a good gasket for the carb. these should generally be available.

                  in my opinion, you don't need a new carb.

                  • Rookie tell me something. If fuel is overflowing out of the carb does that mean

                    a) The float needs to be adjusted?
                    or
                    b) The float does not exist? (as in its completely worn out) and is it possible to get a new one?

                    I have this problem as well, but it stops on its own after 5-10 minutes.

                      fuel overflow from the carb happens when the tang of the float does not press on the needle valve thereby cutting the fuel supply. possible reasons for this:-

                      a - the tang is not properly adjusted so inspite of the float rising with the fuel level, the needle valve is not pressed.

                      b - the float has sprung a leak through which fuel seeps into the float making it heavy and thus it does not rise enough.

                      c - the needle valve is stuck.

                      d - the needle valve is worn so in spite of being pressed by the tang, it does not seal the fuel inlet.

                      e - the float pin has rusted/is not smooth enough to allow free movement of the float.

                      f - the posts, on which the float is fixed, are broken/bent (extreme case, yet possible).

                      Remedy:-

                      a - adjust the tang of the float such that the height of the float is 25+/- 2 mm when measured with the gasket in place.

                      b - check the float for any leaks. if yes, change it. its available in Karol Bagh.

                      c - clean the needle valve and the seat properly.

                      d - check the tip of the needle valve and its spring mechanism. if there is wear/spring is not working, change the needle valve.

                      e - change the float pin.

                      f - look for a new carb or an old carb body from the junk market.

                                Glad to hear that he had achieved a good resurrection....problem is what we visualize ,is hard to realize because we become dependent on some one else for certain things...and they will definitely not deliver unless we sit on their neck......and to actually get that, I can imagine what Rookie must have gone through...Good Luck
