Things to Carry

Ok guys, here is the list from my side..hope it covers all of the things..

- Proper Riding Gear -- MUST FOR EVERYONE
- 2L bottles for petrol
- Swiss knife
- 2 liters of water bottles
- Clutch lever and front break lever
- Clutch plates
- Foot pump -- Optional
- Engine oil -- 1 can Top-Up
- Emergency contacts sheet
- Spark plug
- Ankle high shoes (Army Boots)
- Camera Tripod
- Clutch and Accelerator wires
- Duct Tape -- Optional
- First aid kit medicines -- Everyone to keep one
- Fuses
- Glucose and electrol
- GPS -- Satyen

- Thermal Wear -- Avoid Sweater..would be heavy to carry
- Maps -- Vishwas
- Multiple pin plugpoint -- 2 numbers
- Original and xerox of your bike papers and identification proof -- MUST FOR EVERYONE
- TL Puncture kit -- Satyen..can we get some extra strips..
- Rain coat -- Better to keep it
- Rope -- Which can pull a bike if needed
- Complete tool kit -- we can divide and keep the tools amongst us..
- Torch light, matchstick, candles etc.
- Waterproof bag or a plastic sheet to cover the bags
- Washing soaps
- BSNL Number -- Vishwas

- Bright Glow tape, preferably the ones which says Inder is next door, eat him if you are an animal
- Back up battery for your phone if need be.
- Basic tool kit (PS: Consider your engine oil drain nut for this, the RTR and the FZ has a odd star shaped drain nut)

- a pipe to transfer fuel (will be very handy)
- lots of plastic bags since you dont find them after manali
- lots of spare socks.. ( for water crossings if u have a non-water resistant shoe)
- If anyone using synthetic oil, please carry your brand or buy it from delhi.. you will get only the basic 4T oils at leh
- get some mosquito repellents (for those guys who are riding from mumbai and through the mosquito city (udaipur))
- you can buy cheap thermal wear at manali so no need to pack it up from here.. (make sure to buy a thermal glove, sweater and woolen socks..since you guys are riding in the freezing season you will need them )
- You wont need fuel from Tandi except if you are riding a bike which drinks fuel/bullet.. I filled to the brim and went to leh and also visited pangong tso with the same fuel
- regarding tablets make sure to get one for stopping diarrhea and AMS + a paracetamol and a pain killer

@Satyen: I have a pirelli on my rear, tubeless! What to do about it, i have never had a puncture.

Carry extra bike key also.
Also about expense, what you guys can do is, take the contri in the beginning of day from each member & keep it a guy who can manage the expenses. So you wont have headache of contributing on the spot. We use to collect 500 bucks each day & it took care of our entire day eating & room expense. Ofcourse fuel not included

If your route is properly planned and you know your bike's fuel efficiency you can do without carry fuel at most places. Unless you are heading to Tso Moriri. Even if you do Wari La fuel can be managed.
Carrying fuel is an issue keep that in mind, if the container carrying it cannot lock it properly the petrol fumes can be nauseating and that is something you don't want to happen at high altitudes.
So sit down, brainstorm your route.. what is the worst case scenario fuel efficiency of your bikes and what range can you manage.

- Swiss knife

Not a necessity, but its good to have one.

- 2 liters of water bottles

Spike the water bottles with Electrol, and mild amounts of glucose if you don't mind the taste. But don't do it to both bottles, as you should have a just clear water too at times.

- Clutch lever and front break lever

Don't 'Break' the 'Brake' Lever!

- Clutch plates

You don't need to carry clutch plates with you. Unless your bike gobbles up clutch plates every 2K kms . Just ensure you have relatively newer clutch plates before your ride. I went for the ride on 5K kms run plates.

- Foot pump -- Optional
- Engine oil -- 1 can Top-Up

Everyone need not carry 1L of oil with them. One bottle can be shared between 2-3 people if you share the same Oil grades in your bikes. Unless your bike has a penchant for drinking oil. Pulsars beware

- Emergency contacts sheet
- Spark plug
- Ankle high shoes (Army Boots)
- Camera Tripod
- Clutch and Accelerator wires
- Duct Tape -- Optional
- First aid kit medicines -- Everyone to keep one

I will provide you with a list sometime of the exact medicines to carry. OF sir had shared an excellent sheet for that.

- Fuses
- Glucose and electrol
- GPS -- Satyen

- Thermal Wear -- Avoid Sweater..would be heavy to carry

Thickness of the material you wear is not more important. Rather dress in layers, it keeps you warmer.

- Maps -- Vishwas

In Ladakh there are not too many cross roads to get lost, don't worry too much about the maps.

- Multiple pin plugpoint -- 2 numbers
- Original and xerox of your bike papers and identification proof -- MUST FOR EVERYONE
- TL Puncture kit -- Satyen..can we get some extra strips..
- Rain coat -- Better to keep it

Incase it gets too cold due to the wind, put on your raincoats. They will protect you from blasts of cold wind as the wind will not be able penetrate inside and you will stay warm.

- Rope -- Which can pull a bike if needed
- Complete tool kit -- we can divide and keep the tools amongst us..
- Torch light, matchstick, candles etc.

Instead of a matchsticks carry a lighter, matchsticks can get wet and difficult to light in the high wind conditions there.

- Waterproof bag or a plastic sheet to cover the bag
- Washing soaps

Soaps to 'clean', bathe, shampoo, facewash blah blah and also surf/ariel to clean if required.

- BSNL Number -- Vishwas

EDIT: As a safety practice, over inflate your tyres by about 2 psi to avoid punctures. Do this once you are out of the plains!

EDIT 2: If you cam uses AA type batteries don't expect them to work beyond a certain temp. My P&S would give up at anything beyond 14000 feet and come back to life only later. Thankfully the SLR had Li-ion batteries which worked all throughout.

Hello! I dont have any GPS device with me (minus the phone(s) ofcourse!)

I have the puncture kit, and I guess it has some 4 strips left so far. So get your strips :P

- Plastic sheet just in case we end up in water :P

@Satyen: As Inder n gang will meet us in Delhi on 1st & we are leaving on 29th itself, we have a spare day, so am trying to utilize it well, see if its feasible. It'll cost us around 600 bucks extra, unless we plan to roam royal...

Its a good idea to carry tubes, you can consider buying 1 set (Front & Rear) tubes that can be shared between 2-3 people. As the terrain is good enough to give alloy bends, and if that happens you would need a tube to get you out of there...

We are already carrying a puncture repair kit with us..so just the strips would be required..!!

That's a good idea..of collecting 500 bucks everyday rather than collecting a lumpsum at the start of the trip(by this we might end up staying leisurely there

)..

yeah.. do not collect money on the beginning of the trip. Rather collect each day as per the place you will be stopping/passing by. At times in Mountains, we didnt collected money also at certain days due to extremely less expense & previous days money was carried forward. Dont carry lumpsum money. Rely on ATM's. 5000 at a time should be fine I guess
