What offroading preparation? When and where are we going?

Just now spoke with Leh guy. The documents required for permit at Leh are -

For Group leader - Photo ID, Home address, Age
For group members - Name, Age, Address

However, it is advisable to carry photo ID by all. Charges for permit Rs.100/head.

If possible, all members attending sunday meeting and interested in obtaining permits before reaching Leh, can hand over xerox copies of their Photo ID with a list of names and ages. I can send it across for permit processing.

Well am out of the Pune G2G this sunday.. got some personal commitments.

Regarding the documents, I'll send it with Satyen on sunday.. as we might catch up for the tyre hunt in mumbai itself.

Now the Pre-ride discussions.. well we can do it @ RKs (Lonavala) on the last weekend before heading to LEH.. we can do the discussions after a small off-roading session in/arnd lonavala (as suggested by MG on fb). This way am sure Razor, Winzee and Rachit can tag along too..(it'd be too hectic for them to ride down till Pune just to give us some tips).

Rest let the seniors decide.

I'm out too. I'm accompanying Motor & Satyen for tyre hunt + spares hunt. Will get the documents across somehow.

+1.Avoid sport shoes.They cant take this kind of terrain.



Permits mention the places you intend to visit and I got permits myself from DC office and last year i think I spent more than 150 bucks.

I have a bad memory and am not sure on this but I think they charge by number of destinations mentioned.Inquire abt the places to visit he would mention on your permits

Another thing you need to watch out for is black ice since you are going so early in the season.Guys staying in mumbai/pune might have never encountered it.But keep an eye for it.It is dangerous especially on the passes.Incase you dont know whats black ice,google abt itDo a recce whenever you encounter wet patch high up on pass and if road is exposed.


Early start is key to crossing nallas.Intensity of water flow increases towards late noon and evenings.Bucketful of water in morning might become a raging stream in evening.

Watch out for the stones on bed while crossing nalas.Else you will get stuck like the hero here.Easiest way is step down from your bike ,put it in gear and walk your bike across the nala.Not charming but easiest way to cross without taking chances of falling down in freezing cold water

@Vishwas/Inder - We will anyways be meeting on Sunday evening and for a change I will be opening my mouth and will try to give some pointers which will be helpful.

@Inder - Of all the people you too badly need a off-roading session and I'm pretty serious about that. Rest is your decision. And I'm reading this that two more guys are coming along with you. Who are they? How much experience these guys have?

@Vishwas - If you want then we can go tomorrow morning for a decent off-roading session. No point keeping everything for the last week.
