What problems can occur while carrying the petrol in 2 litre coke bottles ??
Any legal issue,as one of my friend told me that
"If police sees it, u will be calling someone to bail u out. J especially in that area.. so think again. "
^^ Is this true
Cheers Biru
There is no such thing, acc to me. Almost everybody carries fuel. The bulleteers in jerry cans and the others in plastic coke/water/PET 2 litre bottles.
" I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not" - Kurt Cobain
Also additionally, if you plan your route carefully and know your bike. You won't need to carry fuel throughout the trip, unless you're venturing towards Wari-La or Tso Moriri/Tso Kar.
What yaar..?? Why are we having individual plans..!!
I'm not planning/doing anything now..!!
No Ones making individual Plans Inder.
You guys just decided to modify the plan without knowing who is travelling when & on what dates, I have no choice except to start on 1st June evening from Delhi as i dont wana push myself too hard n fast.
Try to understand that if we book hotels n stuff now, we'll be riding like mads just to reach the destination before dark & it'll be risky & no fun... plz Rethink!
AND plz re-read my replies to all your posts & give your opinion.
My only concern is riding unneccesarily in dark (or not starting early) and taking two days to reach Manali (the real beauty starts after that). Hitting the max kms on the meter is easier on Day1 (Delhi-Manali).

I wonder what would be the possible reason behind this? petrol in glass bottles is banned but in Pepsi bottles??? I wonder!!!
One more thing, am not very sure if the substance that the Pet bottles are made of, can withstand the deteriorating effect of Petrol. May please check before taking it!!

We din't carry fuel anywhere throughout the trip!
Thanks guys for your valuable input.
Couple of questions -
1) So is carrying the petrol in Plastic coke bottles that simple...Just neck it up and tight it with the cap.May be include a polythene with the cap to tight up and avoid any leak.Any other precaution we need to take care of ??
2) Actually i have kept wari-la option open while returning from Sumur - Khardungla La - Leh.Now suppose we take the wari la route Sumur-Wari la - Shakti - Chang La - Pangong Tso.I am not sure how many Kms will be this. But Is it doable in 1 day,if not then what is the option of night stay in the route.
How far is Karu from Shakti,if we want to tank up in Karu before we move ahead to Pangong Tso ??
3) Last query is regarding the Luggage booking with the train ticket.
a) Can we book the luggage one day in advance ??
b) Is there a limit of the bikes to be accomodated in a luggage box ??

And i've heard bad things about Dilli Cops, they suck !
What i do is ask a friend to bring his bike, tanked up, and transfer the fuel through pipe, seems more genuine and appropriate than carrying it in bottle.
I understand few of the members will be having there bikes ready to go till station, it'll be easier and plus no legal hassle . Just a thought.

We are not booking hotels in advance for all the halts..just 2-3 major places..like Manali, Leh, Srinagar..! Rest of the places we'll book it as and when we reach there...
Also, i would like to advice you not to ride alone(that too solo) at a COMPLETELY new place .. stick with the group and its timings..!! Not going with the group isn't safe..!! If anything goes wrong(god forbid) then what will u do..?? Everything needs to be taken care of..!!

IMO..Delhi-Bilaspur(360kms) is good enough of a distance considering Highway+Ghats+off-roads..!
Where as, Delhi-Manali is close to around 540kms..!! Which would be a little tough for our group..!!
Also, why hasn't anyone(except Aman) mailed me yet with the details..!! Pls. ensure its done by evening 6PM..otherwise it wud be VERY difficult to take out permits..!!
lol looks like the bomb I planted last evening blew up!
Can I make a useless suggestion:
Print both plans, study them well, then carefully rip them up and throw them away! and lets make a new plan....
Damn! I told you its useless, lets roll, the PLANs are only a framework. The last two times I planned rides were to reach Ajmer in a day, and we reached only Baroda! :P
Its a long tour, too many riders, too many bikes, and too many a55holes like me!
You guys missed spideys mad arse riding schedule and may be so the crashing of the plan went berserk!
So just relax and dont get so senty with the plans~! This is not MY ride, this is OUR tour!
I repeat my suggestion, lets stick to the original plan until delhi.
For all you know I will brainwash people to stay at Ajmer in the first night and leave from there! (me and my bigmouth!)
We can catch up with Spidey directly at Manali! and resume with the new plan! I repeat we will "try" to stick to the new plan (which is like an improvised crashed old plan).
Just dont get so attached with the plan that you get upset when someone changes it or something, heck for all you know we will end up going slow and enjoying places rather than trying to complete the whole of Leh in one trip!
Praful has a TB of pics and videos of Leh enough to work with Google for making street view maps, Navendu goes there every summer measuring how much it has snowfalled and the climate change impact, Kurt has his glass of whiskey there whenever he feels like! DCS has his wife and kids there! Darth goes to the mountains for shopping!!
The point is not making fun of the people I mentioned, but to remind that they are seasoned tourers! We ARE not, take it with a pinch/punch of salt!
We will fall, we will get scared, we will overshoot time in trying to get around with problems in hand, we will overshoot time being crazy clicking pictures and what not!!!! So STOP getting to attached to the plan, at this stage if we are so jittery, then if we overshoot time due to any issue we will end up having a small war there
The plans are now frozen, and the accounts manager says lets just *effing* roll!
If you want to make any more alterations in the plan, the account manager is always available to accept a small donation!

Pls. make a note of the above point..!!
Inder, just mailed u my details/scans. Let me know if you need anything else from my end! Thanx!!

@Spidy: As Satyen already quoted above..we ALL can meet at Manali..Since your Day2 and our Day2 ends at Manali..!! Hope its ok with you...PLS. CONFIRM..!
I hope SpyD agrees with the plan...
Once done, I would request someone to post the final plan in the first page!
Now for Surprise 2!
Confirmed:
(Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Udaipur\Ajmer - Delhi) Alankar - Riding on 29 Early Morning @1:00AM Satyen - Riding on 29 Early Morning @1:00AM Winzee - *OUT - untill further notice* Rudra - (Train till Delhi, then meet up on 1st) Vishwas - (Train till Delhi, then meet up on 1st)
Unclear: Motor- Has shift till 3:00 AM but wants to ride immediately after that, I am hell against it! Inder - Not sure, when will you begin from Pune\Mumbai! I would suggest you Motor and Inder to leave together on 29th Morning or whatever time you amicably decide and meet us at Ahmedabad or Udaipur\Ajmer
Spidy - Leaves on 30th, meets us at Manali on 2nd - Need to confirm Aman - Would already be in Delhi, he can either choose to leave with us on 1st OR with SpyD on 2nd (I would advice 2nd so that SpyD has some company - Aman to confirm)

Carrying Petrol/ Diesel while travelling in unsafe bottles(coke bottle/can etc included) is banned by law in India.
There are exceptions at lots of places that the cops dont question you, but if they do, people can land up in trouble. So think twice before doing that.
Just a suggestion.
