Watch out for the stones on bed while crossing nalas.Else you will get stuck like the hero here.Easiest way is step down from your bike ,put it in gear and walk your bike across the nala. Not charming but easiest way to cross without taking chances of falling down in freezing cold water

        Have fun
        Partially agree.

Great men think alike on the second point. As for the first point, sorry but you are not correct.

You are NOT going hiking on the bike. You are just going to sit there and twirl the throttle. And yes, lean

I took a UK Army spec Karrimor KSB waterproof ankle height shoe there. Guess what - it NEVER dried once it got wet. My feet came back severely blistered/swollen. Whereas a regular sports shoe would've been dried in 15 min over a kerosene stove. This one was totally soggy after 2 + hours.

Yes, a dry-able ankle length shoe is the best option, but they don't dry too well normally. I personally rode easy peasy so I was dead sure I wasn't going to fall (where ankle length shoes would matter) - YMMV.

Btw - please carry atleast 2 newspapers from manali to leh. and refill. Newspapers are the best method to dry shoes. But even they are sorta meh with my "waterproof" shoes

There is a shop somewhere in Pune which stocks shoes also supplied to army I think. Will post the name of the shop later this weekend after I pick up my pair.Prices are between 500-800 per pair.

Cramsters shoes are trash at 5k + a pair.Personally owned them and this is my opinion.

              • Thanks a TON to Praful for the very helpful info mentioned below:

                Here's your list of Hotels...

                1. Amritsar - Hotel Kishore Castle - 0813-240218,2402820, 915537235

Decently priced AC rooms. Plenty of other options in that area available.

                2. Jammu - Main market area

I stayed with my brother here, so can't give an exact picture about the place. But there are plenty of options

                3. Srinagar - Road in front of Dal lake has a number of hotels and pretty cheap. IIRC, we paid 400 bux a room per night.

                4. Drass - JKTDC Tourism bungalow, best option in Drass. Other hotels are not that good or clean either. 300 bux a night for a room with hotwater

                5. Leh - Reeyork Guest house was where we stayed. This was quite inside the town. Again not to worry here there are plenty of guesthouses/hotels in Leh town.

                6. Diskit - This is a small town and there are probably 3-4 small guest houses here. One of the bigger ones is exorbitantly priced the others were pretty reasonable at about 300-500 bux.

                7. Lukung (Pangong Tso) - There is a combination of Eco Huts and Tents available here. Huts cost 300 bux a night, tents are slightly cheaper. If you don't have anything at Lukung, you can head further towards Spangmik which has the same Eco Huts and Tents at similar prices.

                8. Sarchu - This place has only tents and a few tin sheds. There is no number to contact here.

                9. Manali - Huge number of hotels here, nothing to worry about.

                  • Paaji has gone underground from last couple of days and will be dazzling you all with his faultless home work on all the issues discussed / finalised / debated.

It is another issue that with Me, MG and his room mate Rudra who would be joining us in the ride had to force him to type a single character but since we all were sitting on all sides watching him, he had no option. But believe me, the output post will be dazzling to all due to its thoroughness, thoughtfulness, perceptiveness, laziness, forgetfulness

MG in fact, helped by completely taking apart each aspect of the tour and discussing in details. Wait for the aakashwani from paaji.

You have to understand that he was planning in depth for OUR tour and not his. That too, because I pestered him about several things.

Don't worry he has not changed.

                                6) Satyen has been appointed the "Accounts Manager" for the trip.. i.e everyone has to submit 1000 rupees to him once in delhi, Manali, Leh OR as and when required. He would be maintaining the list of ALL EXPENSES throughout the ride and all monetary matters are to be discussed with him.

                                7) Since, some Group2 is coming by train..so Group1 ppl have to buy petrol for Group2 and meet them at railway station(as per the train's time+bike unloading time). From there all would be riding out of Delhi(with help of a delhi xBhp member--TBI).

                                Group 1:
                                1) Inder
                                2) Satyen

                                Group 2:
                                1) Vishwas
                                2) Rudra

p.s: If have missed out anything..Vishwas & MG pls. pitch in with those points.
