      Ok! am ready.

On a serious note, since am the only 1 riding a Pulsar, carrying clutch would be feasable?? as i just changed them 2 months ago.
And rather than carrying bathing soap.. we can bathing gel, it'd be dry.

      • vow.. Good to see the members growing up.. Great Aman, so you too going.. Chupa Rustam including shadow
@Motor : I dont think clutch plates are necessary for you to carry, as you have changed it just 2 months back. No probs.

Also when you get spares like cables & tubes, convince the shop owner, that in case its unused you will return back & get the money. I did the same, nothing except for the tubes was used so I returned the cables & got my money back.
About shoes, carry some tough ones. Avoid sport shoes, they are not meant for such terrains.. Winzee was wearing I guess Nike/Reebok, by the time we reached manali his one shoe sole was missing He had to buy a new one in Manali.
Military ones are the best ones, else any adventure shoes will do. Remember you will be surely stepping into chilled water, mud, desert, rocks.. So mind it..
I have saddle bags so can spare it to anyone who needs just for it for the LEH ride , guess spidey booked it.

Finance wise AFAIK, it will be atleast 20-25k at max

        • Well the surprise element/animal was MotorB.

As far as my trip is concerned, I am amidst some personal, bike related, and official issues and a job transition.

What it means is that I have to abscond from my company to do this, unless my supervisors agree to release me by 30th. For which there are only three ways
          1) God blesses him with a nice lil shining heart now
          2) I can find my shotgun and would negotiate it!
          3) A group of bikers scare him :P

Jokes apart, I dont want to beat around the bush...

I am riding to Leh for sure this year, it would be either with you guys on the said dates or with another group later this year.

                  • Sorry man been super messed up for a few weeks now! Heres my answers!

                    1. I am planning to take my bike to delhi by train. Most probably I will be the only person doing so. I will arrive at Delhi station at 6 am. What will be the meeting point in Delhi? Scheduled time for meeting? If the train is late or bike gets delivered late, what other option do I have?
I had asked this question too, and our uber cool paaji member said it should take just an hour! I have no prior experience in this so cant confirm on this one!

                    2. Have we finalized our night halt locations for each day? If yes, what are they? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?

Locations are more or less covered in the plan. If you ask for hotel specific location then I would advice against it! Also consider that we might have issues enroute and hence making a reservation can be futile or at most lead to a race against time scenario.

                    3. Have we made any kind of arrangements for hotel/tent confirmation? If yes, what are the details? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?

From past little bit of experience in touring, a bike + gear + baggage + tired looks + hotel + a show off look of being travelling and "will-mention-the-place-in-my documentary/article-and-some-pics" = nice discounts.

                    4. I have booked tickets of total 4 riders who wish to travel back from Jammu in train. Are those tickets to be kept or cancelled? Is there any chance for riders booking bikes in train to siphon off their petrol into the bikes of riders going towards Amritsar?

                    Confused members to decide man!

                    5. During my meeting with Inder and Satyen, it was discussed that we should split the entire load among the group so that items are not duplicated. I do not see any working on those lines. Is this still the plan? Who is coordinating this activity?

We made a list, but then it was not moving so I promptly updated about my status. Check previous page. Got some stuff (thought the trip for me is at risk) will be wrappign up the tyre and some other bits this weekend.

As far as the Leh permits are concerned, do let us know by when can we tell you about the same.

I guess you are taking the bike along with you or you had booked it through a private courier in the same train? If its the first one then it will take 15-20mins after the train reaches Delhi but if its the second one then it will roughly takes 3-4hrs to clear the bike.

Generally all the trains from Pune reaches Delhi on time so no need to worry about that part.

Why two different trains when the Jammu Tawi itself comes to Pune?

I meant to ask you that if there is a delay, is the meeting point changed or remains same? and by the way what is the meeting point and time?

                            2. Have we finalized our night halt locations for each day? If yes, what are they? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?

I believe that we have prepared the plan considering all the circumstances in mind. Reserving a hotel room costs nothing if we don't turn up but if there is rush, you don't have any option. Also in the evening, we all will be dead tired to hunt for options.

                            3. Have we made any kind of arrangements for hotel/tent confirmation? If yes, what are the details? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?

Dude, if we are booking a room @ 5-600/night, how much discount can we get and would we have enough energy to haggle? and even if we have energy, is it worth it?

                            4. I have booked tickets of total 4 riders who wish to travel back from Jammu in train. Are those tickets to be kept or cancelled? Is there any chance for riders booking bikes in train to siphon off their petrol into the bikes of riders going towards Amritsar?

                            Confused members to decide man!

While loading bike in train, we need to remove all the petrol. We will be travelling from Shrinagar to Jammu on the same day. Keeping very less fuel in the tank will be extremely difficult so would be better if the group going towards Amritsar accompanies us till railway station. We can remove fuel from our bikes and put it in the other group's bikes.

                            5. During my meeting with Inder and Satyen, it was discussed that we should split the entire load among the group so that items are not duplicated. I do not see any working on those lines. Is this still the plan? Who is coordinating this activity?

I had asked about who is coordinating this activity but it seems each one for himself right now.

As far as the Leh permits are concerned, do let us know by when can we tell you about the same.

Actually right now is also extremely late. As discussed, we need to send copies of our documents to Leh and then get permits. It is only 24 days from our departure date.

PS: Just a junior member too
My opinion is that you need to have one leader/owner for each activity. That person needs to take complete responsibility for that particular activity. This reduces pressure on any single person and complete tour is a breeze for all. The activities can be broken down as -

                            1. Pune/Mumbai to Delhi and back travel
                            2. All hotel accommodations, permits, fuel monitor for all bikes
                            3. Creating a complete list of items to be carried and ensuring that duplication is not happening. Also that all the bikes are equally loaded.
                            4. Photography/Communications - Communications with family, net access, daily writeup, creating backup cds etc.
                            5. Any other activity not mentioned above - can be assigned to me.

Yes Aman is right. no reservations available from Jammu to Pune/Mumbai in any train and no chance of confirmation. So have booked tickets for break journey. Also had to book tickets for Rajdhani and Zelum for Jammu to delhi sector since I am not sure which one would get confirmed.

Travelling without confirmed ticket with bike in parcel van is extremely hazardous to your health.

@VIS:I meant to ask you that if there is a delay, is the meeting point changed or remains same? and by the way what is the meeting point and time?
@SYI: I had asked this question too, and no one responded.
My plan was to meet up in the station, and if it gets late, help you with luggae and meet you in a common point outside delhi, away from traffic.

                              2. Have we finalized our night halt locations for each day? If yes, what are they? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?
@SYI: Locations are more or less covered in the plan. If you ask for hotel specific location then I would advice against it! Also consider that we might have issues enroute and hence making a reservation can be futile or at most lead to a race against time scenario.
@VIS: I believe that we have prepared the plan considering all the circumstances in mind. Reserving a hotel room costs nothing if we don't turn up but if there is rush, you don't have any option. Also in the evening, we all will be dead tired to hunt for options.
@SYI: I am ok with what you guys decide, though hunting usually gets you sweet deals!

                              3. Have we made any kind of arrangements for hotel/tent confirmation? If yes, what are the details? If not, what is the timeline for final decision?
@SYI: From past little bit of experience in touring, a bike + gear + baggage + tired looks + hotel + a show off look of being travelling and "will-mention-the-place-in-my documentary/article-and-some-pics" = nice discounts.
@VIS: Dude, if we are booking a room @ 5-600/night, how much discount can we get and would we have enough energy to haggle? and even if we have energy, is it worth it?
@SYI: By deals I meant food, water, safe parking space etc simply more VFM. The last thing we would want is to reserve a place and get in it and then be told that no hot water, or no Non veg food etc! or People dancing on our bikes! I mean in short, I really want to see a cheap hotel before I get into it. If it was a proper place, then yeah we can cut the search and all!

                              4. I have booked tickets of total 4 riders who wish to travel back from Jammu in train. Are those tickets to be kept or cancelled? Is there any chance for riders booking bikes in train to siphon off their petrol into the bikes of riders going towards Amritsar?
@SYI: Confused members to decide man!
@VIS: While loading bike in train, we need to remove all the petrol. We will be travelling from Shrinagar to Jammu on the same day. Keeping very less fuel in the tank will be extremely difficult so would be better if the group going towards Amritsar accompanies us till railway station. We can remove fuel from our bikes and put it in the other group's bikes.
@SYI: Agreed, and I think that was the plan as well

                              5. During my meeting with Inder and Satyen, it was discussed that we should split the entire load among the group so that items are not duplicated. I do not see any working on those lines. Is this still the plan? Who is coordinating this activity?
@SYI: We made a list, but then it was not moving so I promptly updated about my status. Check previous page. Got some stuff (thought the trip for me is at risk) will be wrappign up the tyre and some other bits this weekend.
@VIS: I had asked about who is coordinating this activity but it seems each one for himself right now.
@SYI: I agree, hardly anything moved after the meet and the post here so I guess we have to go ahead with one for all if not all for one approach!

@SYI: As far as the Leh permits are concerned, do let us know by when can we tell you about the same.
@VIS: Actually right now is also extremely late. As discussed, we need to send copies of our documents to Leh and then get permits. It is only 24 days from our departure date.

This reduces pressure on any single person and complete tour is a breeze for all. The activities can be broken down as -

                              1. Pune/Mumbai to Delhi and back travel - I agree..
                              2. All hotel accommodations, permits, fuel monitor for all bikes - agree, except for fuel, this has to be individual
                              3. Creating a complete list of items to be carried and ensuring that duplication is not happening. Also that all the bikes are equally loaded.-Was alloted to inder!
                              4. Photography/Communications - Communications with family, net access, daily writeup, creating backup cds etc. - Pay per use plan from Vishwas for the phone in Leh, anyone carrying laptop\netbook?
                              5. Any other activity not mentioned above - can be assigned to me.
                              - I will ensure I make a HUGE list now

Yes Aman is right. no reservations available from Jammu to Pune/Mumbai in any train and no chance of confirmation. So have booked tickets for break journey. Also had to book tickets for Rajdhani and Zelum for Jammu to delhi sector since I am not sure which one would get confirmed.

Travelling without confirmed ticket with bike in parcel van is extremely hazardous to your health.
