Yes.You may also try staying in a village near tso kar.But i am not sure.I have seen some dhaba in that village.

2.If i take this route, assuming i fill up at Karu. the no fuel stretch is about 540 kms(till tandi)

On and average my bike gives about 30-32..For ladakh i would be a lil more cautious and say my bike will give 25.Considering that and the fact that i would not let my tank run dry as its an fi bike,i would like to leave about 2 litres spare. Therefore, i have a range of 16x25=400 + 100(bottled) = 500 kms.

I could of course somehow carry an extra litre or two here but just to be safe are there any bottled petrol sellers on the route I've mentioned incase I run dry?

After Tso Kar,when you head towards Korzok, you will find a village named Lower Sumdo.Road bifurcates here, one goes to Mahe, another goes to Koezok.
A tibetan refugee sells petrol in Lower Sumdo.Last year I purchased petrol from him for 110 rs liter.

    Sir,yes.
There is indeed a direct route between Pangong and Tso Morir. And it is the most awesome route in entire Ladakh.
Lukung(Pangong starts)-Spangmik-Maan-Merak-Khasket(Pangong ends here in India and enters into Tibet)-Chushul-Tsaga La-Loma-Nyoma-Mahe-Sumdo-Tso Moriri.
This route can be done in a day.But getting permits for Chushul may be difficult these days.

Have been planning a solo ride, but now due to office work and some other commitments am forced to shift my plans and want to know is September a good month to ride and what month the route to Leh closes. I checked and September looks like a good month after the monsoons and just before the winter setting inn.

Also adding an source of information that am referring to DeViL on WheeLs - Travel, Off The Road.... Many useful maps, suggestions and tips came from here - Hope it add to everyones planning.

        Dear Asif

I did solo ride in September, 2011 to Ladakh. Can go through the following link . Hope a lot of your queries would be answered automatically:

BTW: I would be there (another solo), this year as well if all goes well although I have never repeated any ride so far but Ladakh is different

Short question about docs: If the bike(rc) is not inmy name it's not an issue at any checkposts right? Its in my grandpa's name actually.

No problem in riding a family member's bike as long as you have all documents complete and a valid DL.

Would like to know if the Chushul permit checkpost is manned by the Army/ITBP or the police.

So with all these plans cropping up,its also the time of that year when a lot of plans get cancelled due to "unforseen" reasons. A group of 3(me n 2 buddies) was going to head to Leh from Mumbai on the 7th (9th from Delhi) but people are "hinting" at dropping out. Not that this hasn't happened before, last year I ended up doing a South India trip to Kanyakumari solo after two people dropped out.

In any case, I'm pretty hopeful about going, just wanted to know whether its safe "enough" to go solo.I do see loads of travelogues of Ladakh Solo but would just want a direct opinion.

it is feasible and safe to do solo, provided u know your limits and stay safe and know a Lil about your machine and your body.

Me too doing solo coz of people dropping out.that happens in a group but u shudnt give up d tour. U never know u may find another group or a set of new frenz 😊

                          Keep riding!!

Thanks.yeah hopefully I will make the tour.Anyway is there any need to book accomodation anywhere? Usually i just reach a place a find a lodge/hotel to stay.Would it be better to book in this region? If yes,how do i go about booking.

If you are comfortable being all by yourself and alone - its not a big deal. On most of the main routes - there will be plenty of people on the road and you can tag along with someone. Since the terrain is hostile, almost everybody is helpful and bikers get a lot of respect.
Infact, the highway run in the plains will be more dangerous - what with the mad taxi/car wallahs and the suicidal bikers

Also, no need to book accomodation on the ladakh circuit. July this year will be busy because of some festival - otherwise its fine.
