  • Re: Tyre Choice...

Finally went for Michelin Pilot Street Radial from the stock MRF. Below are some of the points.

    1) Super grippy - Its inspires lot of confidence when riding in tar road and amazing grip in gravel, when i used to ride in muddy gravel road with MRF tyres, it used to wobble a lot. With Michelin its super steady, i was quiet surprised.
    2) Low tyre noise - MRF used to produce lot of noise, with this its a silent performer.
    3) Perfect fit - In this thread i have heard for Dunlop Tough grip tyre we actually have to remove rear mudgaurd, for Michelin nothing of that sort is required, its a direct fit.
    4) Price - It might be more than MRF, but its well worth it.
    5) Look - I personally feel, it looks much better and meatier than stock tyre.

I regret not going for this tyre earlier, as its so much better than stock MRF.

    Which one better ?
Go for Michelin pilot street Radial, i guess this is what you meant. Have heard a lot of lack of grip issues with Contigo especially from CBR 250 owners.

It costed me Rs 5,500/- here in Hyderabad Michelin showroom in Gachibowli.

Also another thing i noticed is previous MRF tyres it used to hit bottom with medium and high humps when you are in doubles. I tested with highest hump with doubles, it never hits bottom now . So looks like it has increased height and solved the problem of bottoming when you have rear rider.

Im using Dunlop for more than a year and half now. No need to remove mudguard, have seen other fzies with same tyre without mud guard removed in any of them.

The no.1 advantage of dunlop over MRF for me is, till this day my bike haven't fishtailed even once. Also zero punchures, the tyre is too tuff for nails.

One thing to add, always keep tyre pressure 30 or below only. Else it will break the back. Its hard like a wood. But at the mentioned tyre pressure the ride is very smooth.

I need to get new tyres for my 2010 FZ-16. I'm new to this.

If I go with fatter 120/60/17 for the rear, what would an appropriate front tyre size be? If the /80/ is going to raise the height from the rear, I'd like a matching or at least slightly higher profile for the front. Is that possible without removing the mudguard or should I keep it stock 100/80/17?

              Thanks.

stick to stock specs... you can go with anything in 140/60 r17. thats the stock size..
you can try 150/60 of duke however i am not sure if it will touch on sides/ clearance issues.
best bet will be to use stock size

a lot of people are even using 140/70 on fz from dunlop and conti's

I haven't noticed fish tailing in high speeds either in MRF or Michelin.

But in Gravel or sand, MRF tyres fish tails too much, but Michelin don't have such problem

I finally went in for a set of Michelin Pilot Sporty tyres. The front is stock 100/80R17, but the rear is now 140/70R17 (up from the 140/60R17). The ride is slightly harder, but I do feel a little more control. However that's probably because my earlier MRFs had become weak with several puncture fixes. I paid Rs. 5,600 with fitting.

Rs. 5600 for Michelin Pilot Sporty Check whether it is Pilot Sporty or Pilot Street Radial. Street Radial costs Rs. 5500 and Sporty costs Rs. 3500-3800.

Yep, they're Pilot Sportys. I got a set of front+rear for 5,600. I checked the prices online and there was a difference of only around 200-300.

Price should be same as stock Revz or maybe a tad over it. Not a puncture magnet and comes in 140/70 profile. Many guys have been using the same without any issues.
