  • Dear all,
I owned RTR FI 160 bike and just a week ago converted the electrical system of the bike to full DC by rewinding the coil with 19 SWG wire and APE RR. Various readings are as follows:
    1. Voltage readings at battery terminals( engine off) : 12.65V
Voltage readings at battery terminals( engine on) : 12.78V

    2. Ampere supplied by RR to battery at 1.4K rpm: 1.30A
( +tive cord of the MM connected to yelow wire of RR i.e o/p of RR and -ve cord of MM connected to +positive of battery)

    3. Voltage measured at RR o/p (w'out connecting it to the battery): 11.85V(idle)-20V(4krpm)

The thing is i am not getting the desired voltage at battery terminals to charge it up(~14V). Please suggest what went wrong, do i have to again rewind the coil?

Alternatively, can I put Activa's or Dio's RR because I may run all DC except the headlamp? The starter load is not important in this vehicle as it does not hvae one. Till now I am not able to source APE RR. Please give me some hint so that I have my scooter blinking in few hours. Thank you.
Has the mech gone nuts ? Unregulated Dc output can go upto 90 volts (or may be even higher) at high rpms.
      OR
Is he rectifying the regulated AC output from stock RR ?
And BTW,Why are you getting this mod by Mechanic (Grease Monkeys) ?

Whatever may be the case Just purchase a Pulsar UG4 RR
      (Part No. is DJ201202).
It costs Rs.450/-and It is available easily at almost all BAL SVCs.
This RR is 1000 times better than using only Diodes.

      • Today i've fully checked the circuit but i couldn't take the snap of new rectifier.
The extra rectifier is having only two wires yellow & red. Yellow is input which is connected to white wire of stock RR input & red is output which is connected to red wire of stock RR output.

And also i checked the amps.

HID OFF at ideal around +ve 1amp
HID OFF half throttle around +3amps
HID ON at idle around -ve 3amp
HID ON at Half throttle around +ve 2amp
At half throttle battery full drain +ve 6.94amps

I dont know how u have done the DC Conversion. If you use APE rr and without grounding the another end of the coil,. surely u'll get good voltage.

          • I have Bajaj pulsar Dtsi Spoke wheels i have converted it to Full DC. Is it possible to put 14AH bullet battery in it, so i can support 90/100 Watt bulb.

Surely you can add 14amp battery. But at first decide where to locate it bcz it's bigger size than pulsars 9amp battery.
The battery will support the 90/100 watt bulb but your reflector will get melt.
Maximum you can use in stock reflector is 55/60w bulb.

              • I have converted my Eterno to DC excluding the Headlamps. I have a query. The mech did a diode-capacitor arrangement from the stock AC regulator for the indicators, horn and brakes. Can we put pulsar's stock RR to drive the headlight on DC but not via the battery? Will it lessen the flicker? I don't think there will be a 55watt bulb for Eterno to run on battery. Again I ask, can we run the 35 Watt stock headlamp from the DC regulator?

Forgot to tell you i am already on Amby sealbeam so it will not melt, but need to check the size of the battery will go to the shop and check it my self and will update.

If its not via battery, its bound to flicker be it AC or DC. Make it full DC using a Pulsar UG4 RR or APE RR.

                    • Pulsar 150 UG3 converted to full DC finally.

Hello every one, back to XBHP after long leave.

finally got some time to totally convert my P150 to Full DC using APE RR+rewinding+P150 UG2 switch asm.

                      reason for mod-
BCU conked off twice due to 55/60 bulb+ Avenger coil set-up. first time BCU went off wierdly.Second time it was sudden death...I could see it was due to Avvy coil set-up....

                      Soln.
Got rid of BCU and contactless switches, replaced them by UG2 switch asm, got the coil rewinded at Ruby and I already had Ape RR.
now running Philips premium 55/60 in headlamp and H7 HID+P220 projector set-up on crash-gaurd. saying bye bye to headlight flicker and welcome more illumination in the form of HID.
Life(health & wealth) is like LED(voltage & current) too much or too less is unacceptable.

i think you can also use pulsar 135 switches they are also contact one...
they would look nice as they are having led lights in it...

                        • 1999 CBZ Headlight crisis

Hi Can you please suggest where can this re-winding be done in Mumbai?

I own a 1999 CBZ. The Headlight is absolutely a pain now! Just came back from a biking trip and I could not even see the light in in the darkness. I got a 35W/35W Osram halogen in it now, but I am not sure if it is because of the bulb or the general wiring has gone so old and is wasting current...

                          Please suggest...

                          Thanks

yes it is possible for stock loads you should just unground wire from the coil and if you will give more load than the stock than you should rewind the coil..

you can do the rewinding by your self also.. it has to be done in alternate fashion...
