Re: Engine Oils
Try Shell AX 7....I am using it on my Unicorn...nice oil.Originally posted by VXR View PostHi Guys, I thought of changing the engine oil of my SUZUKI GIXXER from the stock oil the next service. My bike has done 10.5K Kms. My daily commute to my college is 80 Kms, I ride around speed of 65+kmph & frequently do 100kmph at some stretches. I,m thinking of switching to Semi-Synthetic Oil.
Please suggest me a good oil for my bike!! (Recommended Grade is 10W-40)
Also is it OK to switch directly from Mineral Oil to Fully Synthetic Oil?

Re: Engine Oils
Or Motul 3000 20W40 if 5100 10W40 is not available.

Thank you guys for the valuable feedbacks.
Dropped the idea of 7100 going for 5100 10W40😃😃😃

Re: Engine Oils
No problem at all. There won't be any problem switching between engine oils of different manufactures. As long as the grade are the same, mineral, SS or FS don't matter. Always stick to the right grade.Originally posted by animesh_naskar View PostWithout changing the recommended engine oil grade 10W30, if i change engine oil brand like motul, castrol etc to my bike hero ignitor frequently will it harm my bike engine ?
You get 10w40 in Motul 7100 and 300V. For the Yamaha 125ss 7100 is pure overkill. What I would suggest is get motul 5100 10w40 Technosynthese/ Semi Synthetic. Or if you want an even more affordable option, you can get the Motul 3100 Gold for the same rating which, again is SS and offers good performance for commuter motorcycles.Originally posted by TUHIN360 View PostGuys, I have decided to go for Motul full synthetic oil for my yamaha ss125.
So which engine oil would be better for my bike Motul 7100 10W40 or 20W50 or any other grade??( Yamaha recommends 20W40 but the shopkeeper told me that fully synthetic 20W40 is not possible.)
Additional info:
My bike has completed 9k kms and had cold starting problem with yamalube and castrol engine oil(20W40). The throttle remained unresponsive for the first kilometre or so, but now it has reduced a lot after shifting to elf 20W40.
Check your carb settings, if you have idle problems during early morning cold starts. Use choke before you start the motorcycle and the keep the choke on for a 10 to 15 seconds. Plus, too thick an oil grade means your engine is working hard till the oil heats up enough for it to be responsive, the lag which you feel. Stick to manufacturer recommended oil grade.
Cheers!

Semi synthetic oil is available in this grade. From valvolin.
Hope it helps
Cheers and enjoy the ride.

Re: Engine Oils
The Shell AX7 has both Calcium Alkaryl and ZDDP, both of which helps in proper lubrication and reduction of friction between moving parts...(do not confuse with friction modifiers). So the engine is better off with the AX7..The Honda 10w30 has less Kinematic viscosity because of the reduced number after W, and hence may help in better acceleration and FE...Otherwise AX7 10w40 is good for the 125 engine.Mr.Pinaki had explained the same in detail...Originally posted by karteek View PostThanks for the reply ashwanth.r I didn't feel this slight heat issue earlier. Also mechanic didn't touch any carb settings as it was just oil change. I was wearing jeans all the time. My bike Honda Shine 2008 model 125 CC.
I felt slight heat effect on my foot (foot sides only). It's not horrible but I didn't feel this earlier in around 8 years as I was just using showroom Honda mineral oil.
The reason I wanted to go for outside oil is because Honda mineral oil is not providing smooth ride off-late. This Shell AX7 is now giving a better smooth ride except for slight heat to my foot sides. That's what I am worried about.
Does it have a bad impact on engine ? How to test this engine heat problem ? Any pointers ? I mean if the heat is with in limits or not.
For further study on the AX7 properties and knowing the additives, here is the Link...http://www.omf.com.tr/assets/upload/...ax7-10w-40.pdf

Re: Engine Oils
It is very difficult to harm an engine with oil , any oil infact . As long as the engine has oil ( any oil ) and in sufficient quantity ( upto correct level ) it may run a little better or worse , but no permanent harm . 99% of engine damage occurs because of lack of oil . So don't worry .Originally posted by karteek View PostI felt slight heat effect on my foot ... Does it have a bad impact on engine ? How to test this engine heat problem ? Any pointers ? 10w30 & 10w40 are same thickness oil ( base oil is 10 grade ) , only the 10w40 has more additives in it to make it work better at sticking to the engine's internal surfaces at higher temperatures . So 10w40 shall have larger usable temperature range than 10w30 . But other wise 10w40 shall be worse than 10w30 in lubricating properties and have shorter life . Because more additives means oil degrades quicker as additives are lost and more additives also means there is less oil in the mixture per unit volume . Oil lubricates , additives have zero lubricating properties .
Unless you have need for 10w40's enhanced operating temperatures range , stick to 10w30 . If you really think a thicker oil , better lubrication ( more smoothness )or higher operating temp is what you need , try 20w40 . But from next oil change , no need to rush for oil change now .
A roadside test if your engine is overheating or not is to put a drop of water on the engine head when it has been running for sometime . The drop should evaporate quickly, say 2-5 seconds . If it evaporates almost before you can see it , it's overheated . You can call this a spit-test
of course it's not super accurate .
