The oil (AX-7) as such will not harm the engine in any way. Though a 10W-30 will flow better than a 10W-40 at the engine's operating temperature and "carry" away the engine heat better - it usually won't be detectable by the rider at good speeds of 50-60 kmph.

The usual complaints of having moved to a heavier oil are slightly higher fuel consumption and slight drop in pick-up. I have, for e.g., used 20W-50 from Valvoline on my GS against the recommended 20W-40 - haven't really felt any excess heat.

An overheating engine will usually run 'rough' - does it still have that Honda smoothness? We will wait on what experienced people have to say about this ( Pinaki , psr sir ).

Also, most Honda engines when introduced in India, ran on 20W-40 without problems.

One option is you can settle for a good 10W-30 from Gulf/Valvoline/Veedol/Shell next time if not satisfied reverting back to Honda's oil.

Thanks for the reply ashwanth.r I didn't feel this slight heat issue earlier. Also mechanic didn't touch any carb settings as it was just oil change. I was wearing jeans all the time. My bike Honda Shine 2008 model 125 CC.

I felt slight heat effect on my foot (foot sides only). It's not horrible but I didn't feel this earlier in around 8 years as I was just using showroom Honda mineral oil.

The reason I wanted to go for outside oil is because Honda mineral oil is not providing smooth ride off-late. This Shell AX7 is now giving a better smooth ride except for slight heat to my foot sides. That's what I am worried about.

IMHO, you are just feeling it that way. It is common to experience +/- symptoms after using a new oil. Shell AX-7 have been successfully used in bigger Hondas like Unicorn/CBZ and ZMR/ZMA without any problems of excess heat.

40W oils are way much better for our Indian conditions than a 30W oil - Honda themselves say choose an oil based on the average temperature in your area. An oil should also be chosen carefully based on the Manufacturer. Honda makes some of the best engines with tight tolerances - so 50W is a total overkill.

If you are not really satisfied, you should revert back to 10W-30, but, I still maintain it is not due to the AX-7.

Is this normal ? Does the engine need some time to accustom to 10W40 SS ? Please advice.

    Thanks.

The recommended oil is 10W-30 for Access. One can go upto xW-40 for Access as many are using oils like AX-7 with success. 15W-50 would be too thick for the Access' engine and is not recommended.

I think the DTSi oil is a mixture of Synthetic and Mineral oil.

I think fully synthetic will be good given your commute and that you are considering long distance travels as well. Also you get these additives that may help in addition to the oil.
