What grade oil does your manual recommend you to use? ....

The owner's manual recomends 10w30 HeroHonda brand extended drain oil , it is universal company recommendation for all HH bikes now . They even oil my Air filter with it , ! ! Earlier they were recommending 20w40 . They made this change without any modification to any of the engines at all !! The current bharat-III mods are a separate chapter . . When I inquired at the Authorised Service they said ( with usual reservations about warranty) I could use 20w40 mineral as well and yes 20w40 will keep my engine cooler in summers . So I am more or less confident about changing to 20w40 mineral , since my engine is overheating on longish runs and I like kool engines . There is no question of synthetics since I never use any synthetics on any of my bikes ever . Heck I don't even wear anything with any synthetics , even shoes . . I am interested to know whats good and better and best among the minerals since you guys seem to have tested the whole market out so no point in reinventing the wheel .

I have used elf moto gold twice and currently using valvoline mineral now. Elf was good but dint last long. Now valvoline is much better and bike runs very smooth for the past 600 kms.. I prefer valvoline for u. I remember seeing valvoline in 10w30 too..

It depends up on how you handle the bike and the environment its going thru.

If you rev hard during long drive 700 kms is enough.

Dont worry motul is a good oil inspect oil level and quality at least weekly once that will do.

Every 2000 or 2500 kms is the right time for oil change.

ok guys , I got this ..poured in .. working good ... too early to tell though , it's mineral and clearly says so on the bottle . i like that . 220.00 Rs for 1 liter 20W40 at Leaders Yamaha at PA Shah Road Kolkata (near south city mall). It is marked as "By M/s Standard Greases & Specialities Pvt Ltd" and not Motul or anything else .. Can anyone tell me what the SL marking on it stands for ??
The HH 10W30 that came out was very foul and dirty and almost watery @ 1600Kms , no wonder the engine was heating up even in this winter . Maybe because the engine is new @2200kms .. I don't know ...

If the engine has not changed at all, then I don't know how they have been recommending 10W30. It would become too watery too soon and would not be able to hold its viscosity at the temperature of the engine.

It must be a way to upgrade its status from BS-II to BS-III without giving it much thought.

I always thought W40 was very thin for Ultra short stroke engine of CBZ & all of a sudden they shifted to W30, I had only once used W30 & that didnt lasted even 300kms.

My bike used to Heat up crazy & engine oil level went down drastically

I guess W40 was serving good for the splendours, passions & even Zma's

how much is that elf fully synth for ? is it available in other grades also?

I had the same thing with this new splendor+ of mine , heating and harshness in engine sound after 25Km ride at noon . They said it was normal for new engine , but then it continued @ 2200Kms , I knew from my two earlier Yamaha's ,that I personally broke in , that it's not right ...
Anyway overnight they are using the HH 10W30 on even old vehicles that comes in for service with them , certainly they couldn't have changed the engine design on ALL vehicles sold for the last twenty years ?? In fact at their Authorised Service Centres they have only just the HH 10W30 oil in stock . Nothing else . Refused to use anything else the customer may bring in . So ?

HH's BS-III mods are a seperate thing . For that they have changed all mufflers to restrictive catlytic-conversion type , black powder coated models with chrome heat-guards . They also have a chrome tube and valve mechanism thingy feeding air from the Air filter ,directly into the exhaust port , which is supposed to convert most of the exhaust CO into Co2 :-) , you can see this in all their bikes .

@ Satish .. is the ELf moto Gold purely Mineral ? what grade 20W40 ? SG / SJ / SL ? and price ? I want to try that next if thats good by you ;-) , thanks in advance .

I guess your bike is Warranty period, get filled the engine oil from the ASC & change it Immediately to a better 20w40 grade oil like Gulf pride 4t plus, Elf moto 4 gold or Motul 30004t.

this way you can keep both HH happy & yourself happy

saurabh: ZMR is recommended to run on 10W30.1.1 liters. I have run abt 7500kms till now. Till now i have stuck to the HH oil and changed oil at proper intervals.

Which Motul oil do you suggest?
Sakinaka dealer is very close to me, as i am in marol.
