Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Hello All,
I visited Spartan Pro-Gear outlet last week after short listing SOL SF1 ACME. Though they call the store as SOL Experience store meaning all the products are genuine, I noticed the carton of all the helmets has a label printed “manufactured by xxx, Taiwan and imported by Spartan Pro-Gear, Chennai, India”. I had to take a pause from buying due to the LABEL as I always assumed all the products made in China may not meet stringent quality norms [correct me if I am wrong] . I shortlisted SOL SF1 only after three months of reading various reviews and experiencing numerous brands but this label made me to post this question 'IS SOL GENUINE'?. I would be happy if someone can share their experience with SOL and advice if it is ‘OK’ to continue with my buy!
P.S: I am available from Thursday till Saturday and will be happy to join some-one in Chennai planning to visit the store,.

I had to take a pause from laughing after I read this.!
However, the question is genuine, so here goes.
The facts -
1. Spartan ProGear is the ONLY authorised importer for India for SOL Helmets - a fact you can verify by simply visiting the official SOL website and looking under distributors. The fact that you saw this on a master carton simply substantiates this. In fact you will see the same printed even on each individual helmet box. And each helmet will have a small sticker certifying the country of manufacture - Taiwan.
2. SOL/GMax are the brands owned by the same company and sell under the GMax brand label in the US market, since the name SOL is already reserved by someone else. In the rest of the world the helmet is sold under the SOL label. This too can be verified by the official website.
3. ALL SOL/GMAX helmets come off just one production line in Taiwan, and are all DOT certified, which is the US Standard of certification, without which they cannot be sold in North America. I have actually seen the factory production line and every container of SOL Helmets come with DOT test certificates. Ask to see them at the store, if you would like.
4. Apart from Arai, to my knowledge every major manufacturer in the world now makes their gear in China. SHOEI, ICON, KBC, HJC, Scorpion, AGV, you name them and they source from China. For that matter most gear from AlpineStars, Joe Rocket, ICON, etc., are also made in China too.
5. My iPad which I am using to post this , bought at the Apple Store with invoice is labelled made in China!
Your question though misdirected is however commendable and also your action in not buying is also laudable till you got the facts right. I for one appreciate your thought process. There is no point throwing away your money on products that may be fake or not upto the standard that you are paying for.
I would suggest that in future, instead of questioning the country of origin, you do the following;
1. Do some research on the products that you are considering buying. Google is a great resource.
2. Ascertain the Indian distributors of the brand that you are buying. Buy only through them or their authorised resellers.
3. Ask for an invoice. No genuine legally imported item can be sold without a tax invoice, since a proper legal import has happened. If the seller cannot give you a proper tax invoice with description of the product, the item is almost definitely fake. (I am assuming here that you will be buying from a proper store and not the local smuggled goods bazaar)
4. Ask for the warranty. Genuine distributors will always be able to offer the international warranty that genuine brands offer.
P.S. Most of the seniors of XBhp and Mad Bulls in Chennai already use SOL Helmets, so get in touch with some of them to set your mind at ease!

As a user of SOL 48S AND have survived a crash safely, I can vouch that, Indian make helmets MAY come closer to the quality of SOL, but NEVER EQUALED. All the more, SOL is "Genuine DOT" approved helmet & not fake one. The DOT certificate is embossed, not a sticker to fake.Originally posted by BikerB0y View PostI visited Spartan Pro-Gear outlet...with SOL and advice if it is ‘OK’ to continue with my buy!

If you're apprehensive about "Made in China", then you should never visit the new found land
These days even Bosch & Makita are "Made in China"

I still don't fathom why people just rule out, a product labeled "Made in China". Partly to blame because of the very quality of the replica they intend to replicate. As such, Chinese people are skillful masters of replicating the product even better than their genuine counterparts.Originally posted by BikerB0y View PostHello All,

All that being said, I mean come on man, right from your computer mouse, to the very mobile phone battery are all manufactured in China.
Here's the real deal. China is a real cheap workhouse for big players. Big production houses save thousands of dollars worth of money just by outsourcing them to places which more or less are sweatshops, cheap labor, good workforce, easy access to materials etc.
Many big companies initially start off as their own in-house manufacturing. As the demand perks up for their product(s), and to handle that demand, you need a bigger, efficient, CHEAP workhouse, which is why China leads as the foremost destination for almost the entire world. You name any company out there, they either have their products manufactured or materials sourced from China.
Unfortunately, this very demand has lead to the rapid growth of so called "replicators" who piggyback on the demand these brands have created.
So next time, when you see a product labeled "Made in China" you know why it's "Made in China"
You might ask? Okay, now you've said all this, how the heck am I supposed to know if it's fake China or genuine China? Well, the answer is Research. Common sense. PERIOD.
Cheers!
