initially i will make it for number plate, and absolutely not for headlamp as i donot want to do a huge experiment on first attempt .

                        • Not saying I know a great deal about projector headlamps. Its just that I did DIY of my cars headlamp from stock to projector setup. Here are some of the things I have learned.

Projectors works very differently from a conventional reflector. In a projector, the reflector is very small and its projection of lights is very different from conventional one as they are designed to work along with the thick lens. Without the lens, the projection of light is useless to the point of being ridiculous. They look some thing like this ( ). Those left and right brackets representing the light being projected. In other words, the reflector alone projects two sharp long vertical line of light that is slightly curved. One on the left and the other on the right similar to the open/close brackets. The middle portion is shadowed. When the lens is attached, the lens re-focuses these beams into a single long horizontal beam.

Now this single horizontal beam is still very bright and blinding for oncoming traffic, so there is a shield that covers half the projector placed between the reflector and the lens. This shield prevents half of the light being projected on to the lens, hence you see a clear cut where the beam's upper portion is completly in darkness and the lower portion is bright. In order to get the effect of Hi-Lo, this shield opens and closes through some mechanism, though such mechanism are available on only very expensive projector or high end cars like Audi. Mine does not have such a mechanism, so I can use the projector either as Hi (by removing the shield) or Lo (by keeping the shield). Since a H4 type of bulb (dual filament) is not going to work in a projector like it does in a conventional reflector. Anyway my projectors does not use H4 to start with. One set uses H7 and the other set uses H3. Considering I have no way of fabricating a mechanism to make the shields open & close, I got 4 sets of projectors. Two for Hi (by removing the shield) and two for Lo (with shield).

If your projector does not have the mechanism to move the shield. It can only be used as Hi Only or Lo Only.

See attach image to get an idea on how they work.

                              • @kaynmantis: The diagram is bit difficult to see, too small. But from what I could see, the shield should be at bottom in order to have cutoff at top. Means for following setup
                                darkness
                                -------cutoff
                                Light

We should have the shield at lower side. I thought it would be like cap, so it should be on upper side. Can you pls explain?
